![]() --- Kim's 'prep' for our pumpkin picking dinner Good morning ..... Only fifty-three 10/11/09 pictures left to post. ![]() My daughter-in-law is a very organized cook. Everything was started in advance. Near the stove is a container of the cheddar she grated for the macaroni and cheese. She did that while she was talking to me. We were waiting for most of the others. (Jamie was the only one who beat me there. lol.) There were nine adults and two children. (Three of the adults couldn't make it.) *** Edited to say: I was checking out the '67% of Americans overweight' figure. I'd guess that 'maybe' 15% - 20% of the people there were overweight. Including that gal at the register. ... I seem to see more 'anorexic looking' teenagers here. Maybe the extreme thin look is a backlash or fear of being overweight? So tomorrow is our big day. ... This wimp won't drive out to JFK (or anywhere in NYC). I'll be taking the train to Grand Central; Shuttle to Penn station; "A" subway to Howard Beach, Brooklyn and then the air train to JFK airport. lol. It will take me as long to go from here to JFK as it will for Wayne to fly from Louisiana. ![]() Last edited by jezzie; 10-13-2009 at 07:34 AM.. Reason: forgot something |

Hello Jezzie and those to follow in,
My computer did a ton of things for me and I am most pleased with the results. I still need to learn so much though.
I woke up before 8: am this morning which is like a rare event for me but I like it and hope to keep it going. Jezzie you must be so JAZZED about tomorrow- good for you and Wayne. I just took 2 Amodiums for my tummy and do not feel like doing much but will try to push myself as the laundry has become alarmingly large so I will at least to a whites and maybe get into it and finish. Highs in the upper 70's today and then mid 50's for the rest of the week and rainy so this is the best day to battle that job. bbl Elaine ![]()

I'm enjoying the pumpkin picking pictures, we just don't do that anymore, and the places we went when the boys were young were not such nice places. Jezzie, your pumpkin place looks like the pictures on greeting cards or calendars to me!!! Speaking of the fat people in America, the teenagers these days, from what I read on other boards, they eat and spit, that is the latest "thing" to keep the weight down!!!
I am not surprised to hear that, the saying "young and stupid" did not come about from nothing. That's life in the western world. People in Africa would be appalled!!Sounds like you have your day planned out Lainey. It's good to have your computer doing better, I hope to get mine fixed perhaps the end of next week. I have to coax it to go on still. Hello to all the rest of you folks. I'm making cabbage rolls today for supper, so have to go and par boil the cabbage leaves, lol. Have a cast iron pot to use so they taste better after browning. What time does Wayne have to leave Jezzie? Verleen, I just read your post from yesterday, what a pain in the butt that new gizmo is, hope it works top notch now!!!! They have turkey's in Germany now, called "Truthahn", but they cost alot more than plain old chickens. So for my hubby it was something new too. I'm hungry for something apple baked type of food, will have to dig out my oat bran pie crust recipe and make us something small, perhaps half a pie recipe, lol. I do have plenty of boxes of the brown Sugar Twin, which we like the taste of too, ordered them on the internet since the stores keep pushing the "half real sugar, half brown sugar" bags instead of the all sugar free stuff. Keep on truckin' folks!! Doris

Was busy yesterday celebrating this 4 yr olds BD at Chuckie cheese.
![]() Adam Paul After the party we went to work on their pumpkins. Uncle Phil was a big help. The kids did want to touch the pumpkin's insides. ![]() Finished product with Uncle Phil who looks a little frazzeled, he is a bachelor ![]() Adam did not want his pumpkin to have teeth so he knocked them out. Jezzie you will be doing quite a bit of traveling to get to the boy. Sure hope you 2 have a grand time. How long will he be staying this time? Lainey we have rain here also and a cloudy dreary day on board. Doris I have a recipe for an Apple Bread that uses chunks of apples if you are interested. Talking about the older days, my grandkids don't call uncle Phil Uncle just Phil. Wonder if that is some sort of trend? They do call me grandma but I have been told to sign the cards Grandma Loretta.

Hi gang. Already tuckered out, but much to do yet. I went to my art class this morning. I'm really struggling with pastels. Just can't get the hang of the medium. The instructor is trying to get me to loosen up. She says I'm too tight and drawing too much detail. Hard to break and get a new way of doing it.
Then the furniture store guy came and fixed the padding in my reclining love seat sofa. Its much better and I didn't have to pay a penny. I got the sofa in 2004 and fixing it didn't cost me a penny. I still can't believe it. I'm doing laundry right now. I have to pack my suitcase for Cathy and my trip tomorrow to Erie, PA to visit my ex-husband and family. He's taking us out on Sunday to a dinner theater. On the way there tomorrow, we're stopping at my close friend's home for dinner. Jezzie, big day tomorrow. I wonder if you will get much sleep tonight. How long will it take you to get to JFK with 4 different train/subways? Hi Lainey. I envy your temperatures. Doris, I love cabbage rolls. I made them myself a couple weeks ago. How do you make yours? What does 'trut' mean in German? 'Hahn' means rooster. BBL

Loretta, what nice pictures. Uncle Phil did a great job on the pumpkins. My grandkids call me Meemaw. I'm not sure I like the trend of dropping the uncle, aunt, Mr. or Mrs. It seems like they are taught a lack of respect. Maybe I'm just an old fuddy duddy.

I don't care what they call me as long as they call me. LOL I am Nana, and Auntie G. But if they called me Glenda I wouldn't care. I hope everyone is having a wonderful day. My DGS is here helping me do all the things that require muscles. Tomorrow we are tearing out tile in the dining room. Glenda

What nice birthday and pumpkin cutting pictures you have posted Loretta!! Happy looking kids, and Phil does look a little "busy" too, lol.
Verleen, near as I can find out, "Trut" means "Tom" turkey. Have a safe trip tomorrow. We have had a huge rain/wind storm, trees went down all over the place, large power lines are down in another part of California, so not so much fun, but the rain has been appreciated. So far, we have had a bit over 3 inches here. It should be done by morning though. Sort of quiet here today. Pleasant evening, and get some sleep Jezzie ![]() We have very early doctor visit tomorrow and quick shopping. Doris |

This is very weird. I did post here this morning and saw my post!!
I thanked Weezie for the recipe, asked Doris for the recipe for the oat bran pie crust, and told Verleeen I wasn't trying to impress the chef, only NOT poison her!! Let's see if this one works. Feeling a little better today. Planted more bulbs.... |

Verleen,
I was just with a girlfriend in Florida and her grandson calls her Meemaw. It is the first time that I had heard that. What kind of derivative is it? Will check back on tomorrow's roll call. Thanks, |

Hi Ladies, I visit you all quiet often but can't seem to make myself post on this thread. I reckon I think I don't belong here but you know what; I do. I'm a 61 year old Granny who people tells me I sure don't look like I'm that old. My Mother always looked young for her age. Anyway, I still try to keep up with my three daughters and much younger sister. I try to not think of myself or act like I'm any older than they are. Go figure.
Anyway, is there anything wrong with feeling younger and wanting to look younger? I bet we all strive for that. I'm 5'3", and keep my weight under 115 pounds and fit very well into a Size 4. Can even wear some smaller sizes. Why do I feel like I have to lose more weight? I try to eat what is considered a healthy diet; whole grains, veggies, fruit, lean meats, light yogurt, etc. I rarely let myself splurge on anything else. If I do, I watch portion size very closely. This last time I lost weight, I did it for my health because my cholesterol and blood pressure were both running high. Now it has again turned into vanity. I'd appreciate any ideas or your views. Thanks, Ann

Hi Ann
Even though I've been posting here for ten years - my weight is of little interest to me. ![]() Odd I know. Just rankles me to be defined by appearance or number. Love being 66 yo though. So I'm not going to be of much help - but wanted to say Hi - and that it's nice to see you. ![]() |

Hi Ann
Hi Ann.
From how you described yourself, it doesn't sound like you need to lose weight. You are active and very small for your height. Normally I wouldn't offer this advice and like people just the way and weight they are. But you asked for opinions. You might be letting a misperception of yourself lead you into trouble. Why do you want to lose more weight? Could it be that you have let the dieting regimen cross over into an obsession? I mean this in the most kindest way possible. 115 lbs sounds low to me for your height and age. Also, losing more weight won't help the lack of skin tone, wrinkles and sagging skin at our age. It only makes it worse. However, if you feel good, then your current weight may be good for you. We are all different. There have been some studies that indicate that as we age, it is not good to be so thin. They show that older people who a just a little overweight live a longer, more healthier life, compared to a rail thin body. I am an inch shorter than you and would like a goal weight of 140 lbs. I think too much lighter than that wouldn't be healthy for me at my age.Last edited by Verleen; 10-14-2009 at 06:58 AM.. |

Have you seen a dietitian or doctor and told him/her all of this Jonah's Grandmother? Maybe some professional help? You aren't the only one with these kinds of issues, if you check other boards there are some of you here and there on them. Kind of a mind over matter type of thing. Only trouble is many people don't have insurance to pay for this kind of help.

I know if I go too low in my weight I look gaunt. Back about 15 years ago I got down to 110 (I'm 5'1") and everyone was telling me I didn't need to lose weight but I was sure I was still too fat. They told me I looked gaunt but I didn't believe them...until one day I looked at a photo of myself and about died. I looked terrible.
But I was addicted to exercise and starving. In fact I exercised to the point that I was getting sick with colds every month. I'd just get over one and then get another one. I finally cut my exercise down ( If I didn't have the front of my shirt completely drenched in sweat then I wasn't doing enough. I thought) and quit getting sick. I finally gained some weight back. Then too much..and came here. I still weigh 10 lbs more than my lowest on this board but I feel so much better. Addiction and obsessive! They are terrible things to go through. I know.

Hello everyone!! I'm confused, and throwing myself back into low carb, but can't seem to find the right answers. Then I come back here, to my old stomping grounds and see many familiar faces who might be wise enough to help. I've been diabetic since my late 20s, and cheated the system for years. But, in the past few I have gone to using insulin, and will probably have to stay on it. My doctor actually suggested low carb, after the last doctor told me that insulin users HAVE TO EAT CARBS. She mentioned something about 45 carbs per meal, 150 per day. I lost several pounds right off, but now, can't lose an ounce. I think I need to drop my carbs, but dare I, on insulin? DH suggests I drop the insulin.
I have to add, doc feels the pancreas no longer produces insulin, so I am scared to get that brave. Anyone got an idea of what to do?By the way -- nice to read everyone's posts again. I've missed you guys and will try to be more regular. Hi Jewels!! Still want to have lunch again some day. ![]()

Mary, there is diabetes.org web site, that has message boards with hosts that know diabetes and can perhaps steer you into the right direction too, web md also has nurses that answer questions, there are so many different ways to go, and each one has to find their own way, and that takes time. My dh is on insulin, but he had a liver transplant, so what goes for him would not go for your case, but he does need carbs every meal, and has to be sure to eat carb/protein before going to bed, stuff like that. Change doctors or dietitian's if you can, trusting the medical person you see makes a big difference too.
