Darren and Kim ... early Autumn 2005

Good morning .....

Did my morning walk first this morning. Missed doing it yesterday. It was pouring.

Every evening Wayne and I take turns reading to each other from several books.
One of the ones I'm reading to him is Absolution by Murder - by Peter Tremayne.
It's a Sister Fidelma mystery (Nun and trained advocate of the court).

The Sister Fidelma series is set in the seventh century AD ..... in Ancient Ireland.
It's amazing how progressive Ireland was on the subject of women's rights.
(Puts us to shame actually.)i

Good morning everyone. Pretty pic Jezzie. No comment from me on womans rights. lol.

Doris you said something in yesterdays thread about closing the public restrooms ... you were kidding right? I mean where will people go? my goodness.

well yesterday brought a lot of lightning and thunder to my area, heavy wind, but no rain. For three hrs. Some places got the rain, we just werent one of them.

Jezzie, your love life sounds so nice. I hope you will always have happiness.

Off today to do NOTHING. Taking a break from the mundane.

Good morning all-

That is a lovely wedding photo Jezzie. I love the pipes & drum. My step-daughter had a piper at her rehearsal dinner, leading folks from their hotel to the restaurant. It got some curious looks, even in Manhattan!

I love the Sister Fidelma books as well. How fun that you and Wayne read to each other! I thought reading aloud was a lost art and am glad to hear it survives.

We had heavy rain yesterday evening and more is predicted for this afternoon. My older dog has become afraid of thunder in the last month. He use not be, but now he hides under the computer desk until the thunder and lightning are over. He's a 65-lb lab/border collie mix and it's funny to see him curled up in the small space.

Today DH will probably go fishing and I am preparing to weave in thread ends and block the front and back pieces of the sweater I'm knitting. Very tedious - so going into a sort of Zen state helps.

Sheila - enjoy your break! Wishing everyone else a good day also.

Good morning friends. We aren't doing anything for the fourth since Cathy and Rich are working the next 3 days, and no one is having fireworks around here due to economic cutbacks. I'm working in the house today as it is raining yet again and rather cool out. I'm hoping it will clear tomorrow so I can spend time outside. Since we've been discussing music, I'm listening to some right now. Rich has some big band music on. I enjoy it as long as the volume isn't loud and is more at a background music level.

Jezzie, what a spectacular photo of Darren and Kim. I envy the reading you do. I use to read quite a bit --- to the tune of several books a day. I was a speed reader. But I can no longer do that as I can't hold a book that long, nor do I want to. I just don't have the attention span anymore. The book you are reading to Wayne sounds very interesting. My experience has been that people HATE being read aloud to. Maybe that's because we have become a culture of talkers and not listeners. How wonderful that you both enjoy it.

Sheila, enjoy your day of NOTHING. You deserve it.

Louise, our big mastiff cross is afraid of thunder too. She tries to melt into my body for safety. So clingy. Good luck on your knitting. I'm happy that its you knitting and not me.

BBL to see what the rest of our gang is doing.

What a beatiful picture of Darren and Kim. Thanks for posting it Jezzie.

Shelia, the rain is coming this way. It should be here by tomorrow. Not sure about fireworks plans, my sons have invested some $$$ in them. Locally they had some last night. Funds were low for the state park, but several donations from businesses helped the show to go on.

My old dog Pretty Peaches (part beagle) just loved the 4 th of July, she used to chase the firecrackers. She died on July 5th, many, many years ago and that year I remember I had to carry her outside so she could be near the "works".

HI to those that follow today.

Our Collie hated fireworks, had to put her into the bathroom with the fan on, then she would fall asleep in there, but this was in the old, living in suburbia days. Up here, no fireworks are allowed, so of course the people that come up to camp bring them along anyway and start fires with them...........

We aren't doing anything, and are happy to be doing that.

That is a lovely photo of Darren and Kim, Jezzie!!

Many of our county parks are closing restrooms, beginning next week here in California. You ask "Where will the people go?" Three guesses.............. But the real reason for doing that is so people will someday leave California, a money saving idea from the powers from above. There is more of that kind of thinking coming up.

Have a good day, I will be in the kitchen as usual.

I did get most of my exercise bike time in though.

Loretta, what an endearing story about Pretty Peaches. It brought to memory that my shetland sheepdog, Brandon, loved the fireworks. We would go park our car in a good spot and I put a heavy blanket on the car for my two daughters and Brandon. They could see the fireworks very well from there. Brandon would sit there with his head looking up in the sky, waiting for the next round to go out.......tail wagging. I never had a dog since that liked them. He was my #1 dog and I can never have another sheltie because he was so unique and not replaceable. Wow, all you ladies are bringing back the memories lately.

Verleen, somewhere in time, you spoke of a steel roof? Up here, for awhile, steel roofs were all the rage, until we had big snows. The steel roofs have a quirk, they allow a whole bunch of snow to just sit on them, and suddenly, the load of snow slides off in a whole big bunch, and it happened to slide onto people injuring or killing them, or on top of cars, porches, etc. and doing damage. So they are not popular anymore up here. Perhaps that is why you don't see more of them?? Just a thought. We had shingles, but they don't allow them anymore due to fire, so had to have some kind of asphalt like shingles put on instead, so that the insurance for the house would not be too high. All kinds of laws here in California.

Time to fix dh his snackypooh. He is lovey dovey tonight, so we are watching a movie together......

See yah tomorrow gang!! Kris, if you check in, how are your yellow jackets, are they gone now?? dh had to get rid of a huge nest today here, it was in our wood stove, out next to the patio.

Hi, everyone!

We have had thunder storm on top of thunder storm on top on thunder storm.

I'm such an old fuddy duddy that I turn my computer off and unplug it during bad storms. I think we're still at the end of the power line here and if the line gets hit it backs up into the house. I really don't want to fry my laptop!

The picture of Darren and Kim is wonderful, Jezzie. Love the pipers.

Doris: I can't believe they're closing rest rooms in CA! What a stupid idea and you can tell Arnold for me if you want. Yikes! I envision "messes" all over the place. Don't you think that people won't pay to go to a park where they can't "go"??? That will probably hurt more economically than paying to maintain the restrooms! Oh, they should make me queen!

I do seem to have gotten rid of the yellow jackets between the spray and the trap. Now I can get the shrubs trimmed.

Way2: I totally agree with you about Michael Jackson, poor man. The media is in such a frenzy for news that they're way overstepping, IMHO. I was so furious when they started in on MJ is not really his kids father. I could have just punched that reporter. And all of the smug "experts" coming out of the woodwork to analyze this and that! I want to punch them, too! He's dead. Let him RIP and don't go after his kids.

Loretta: How's your arm doing?? Can you use some sort of brace to make it not hurt so much when you're on the computer?

Hopefully we won't have storms tomorrow so I'll be able to post more and really catch up.

Have to run and try to get mom ready for bed.

See everyone tomorrow.

k

Good Evening everyone,

or what is left of it anyhow.
I got my last refill for the thyroid but that will only last 15 days as the Dr. told me to double the dose but left practice before I could get a written scrib to that effect. I found a Canada site that I can get the pills and lots of them so I will pay out of pocket and really stock up while I search for a Dr. that will give me a Rx that I want. This is a crazy way for a country to treat its seniors. Dr. so afraid of being sued that they make the elderly jump through hoops to get their needs met. I love this country but I love it for my children being able to be who they are but seeing the "greeters' in Wallmark is a real scarey scene for anyone over 65 to see.
I paid my Homeowners Ins. today and the Jeep Ins. is due in August so it will be a really tight few months for me so buying out of pocket meds just makes me sad. On the up side though I feel better on these meds than I have in 6 years- imagine feeling really sick several times a day for 6 years. I feel like my thyroid and my pancreas were doing some sort of evil battle or something.
I bought canteloupe (2) and a little seedless watermelon today and sure will enjoy those. I did some more in the garage but did not unearth the cooler yet but will do that tomorrow so I can put ice from the ice-maker in it to chill the watermelon and one of the canteloupes- one is chillin in the fridge now.
Some more weeds got yanked out but we are due to have a good 1/2 inch or so rain on sunday afternoon so I hope to gets lots done before the rain and really go at it on Monday- especially where it show a lot. I will not prune much till the weather cools in the fall as I need all the shade I can possibly get but then there will be some hacking going on to let the sun warm the house for the winter months.
I heard from the new wifey and they expect to be in the new townhome by July 6 th. She will be working in the Defense Intelligence Agency in Fredrick, Maryland which is where the Science branch is located. Their headquarters is in the Pentagon. The DIA was founded under JFK by McNamara in the 60's. I google everything. The new hubby will be in Dahlgren, Va. at a Naval heavy weapons station so it looks like the two of them will be doing too much commuting but we will see. He is thinking about finding something closer to D.C. I am praying for them.
Time to get into my book that hasn't got too frightening so far but when it does I will switch to day time reading only.
bbt sometimes I think I should wait and post the next day but I am not a morninger so I just go ahead and post at night.
Sweet dreams and fairy dust sprinkled upon you.
Elaine

Doris, that's good to know about the snow on steel roofs. We put a steel roof on our garage a good number of years ago. We get heavy winter snowfall too and haven't had the problem you describe. Our biggest problem is our shingle roof over the kitchen and back porch. Rich has to rake the snow off or it builds up and slides off and hits the car. I think I will research it some more though.

Lainey, I don't know much about thyroid problems and meds. Are the meds safe to take as a continuing med at the double dosage without blood work and a doctor? I'd hate to have something happen to you. I'm esp worried because your doctor doubled the dose and quit before he had time to monitor you on the double dose.
