Good morning ...
Well I sort of behaved at the buffet ..... it's so darned hard to behave at a buffet. I was doing pretty good until dessert time. I had fruit, pudding and a bowl of ice cream. Next time it will be fruit and 'either' pudding or ice cream. It was different when I only ate away from home twice a month but now it's five or six. Woke up at five thirty to the sound of pouring rain. Went back to sleep until eight.Weird how we are getting as much rain here as Wayne usually gets. WFs is not tropical. Need to make coffee and catch up on yesterday's toll call.

Good morning all-
Jezzie, I love your long distance dates. What a great concept. And dessert sounded very good - a treat is in order once in awhile! Nala, my cat, is trying to bite my toes. For some odd reason that's her morning routine. I've had the hardest time getting her meds into her. She takes phenobarbital and valium twice a day for epilepsy. For a little while pill pockets worked, but she wised up to them so once again I have to grind up her meds and mix them with canned food. Her favorite flavor varies by the day, so it's frustrating. This morning I discovered that my kale plant was decimated by cabbage worms. Phooey. Something is also munching on the cayenne pepper plants. Everything else seems to be okay so far. Do any of you expert gardeners have suggestions? A friend suggested spraying the plants with soapy water. Will that work? These are all edible plants so I'd prefer not to use chemicals. Advice is most welcome! Have a good day! -Louise |

Good morning. Another Seattle day here in the Adirondacks of NY.
Its 55º right now and very humid. Just showering and dressing took it all out of me. I just got ready and will go pick up my friend for another day out shopping and lunch. I actually hate shopping, but I do have to return what I bought the other day because I bought the wrong sizes. I must have eaten some marajuana laced brownies that day. I am finding reasons to get my friend out of her house. She's suffering from some depression because of her daughter. Mother-daughter relationships can be very difficult. Rich and Cathy are both off today, so I will be making dinner. An Italian pot roast with carrots, onions and potatoes, plus fresh peas and asparagus from the garden. Rich has offered to vacuum the carpets. I am still on a high after getting my service and minutes transferred to the new cell.![]() Jezzie, I think its wonderful that you are getting out to eat more. I'm still laughing over Doris and Lainey re the exercising in the nude scenes. Hi Sheila, if its any consolation, its humid here too. I feel like I need an aqua lung. No consolation, huh? I thought so. Just stay indoors with some air on. I want to put the air on too to take the moisture out of the air, but its 55º. Too cold.

Hi Louise, we were cross posting. The plants would love the soapy water, but it won't do much about the insects, except the water will flush them off. Then they will crawl back up. I've heard of, but never tried, the hot pepper sprays will deter insects. Its made from hot peppers. Some soapy pesticides use a chemical from the chrysanthemum. I don't like to use insecticides either, but will use them on infected plants that aren't in bloom. I don't want to harm the bees. I use a Sevin dust. It isn't absorbed by the plant and washes off. You want to avoid systemics which are absorbed by the plant.

Hi again-
Forgot to post the good news of the day. I'm down to 152 lbs. The next hurdle for me is trying to get below 150. That seems to be my set point. More exercise, I guess. Heat here is not so bad at 74, but humidity at 78 makes it swampy. Rain and t-storms in the forecast with coastal flood warnings. Thanks for the gardening pointers Verleen. BBL |

Louise, I have used water mixed with some Tabasco sauce, shake it in a spray bottle. It worked for me, but don't know if it will do anything for you.
![]() We got up late, so the day is not normal for us, , dh had some heat related problems yesterday, so he has strict instructions from me today which he is not happy about. I hate this "police work" of my hubby here at home, darn it!!!! He does things that scare me, doesn't pay any attention to the heat warnings and so on..........![]() Need to finish my exercise bike and then bake something healthy for us, got that book "DTour" diet, and will try some recipes in there. Be back later on. Jezzie, I love your "cyber dates" with Wayne!!! ![]() That is wonderful, hang the foods you eat, you are alive and in LOVE and that make's your day, every day!!! Enjoy it friend!!Waving to the rest of you folks. Doris

Hey Ladies and Gentleman!
Hope everyone is having a good day. I missed posting yesterday...too much going on.....laundry, cleaning a bit of yard work too. Louise....sorry about your dryer, hope it's a simple quick fix. I'm voting for squirrels as the beasts digging up your plants....we just recently had them move in, and they have been digging random holes in the yard and in the pots. I'm starting to get excited about my DD's college road trip. She is frustratingly ambivalent....hopefully, she will become more 'into it' when we get on the plane. I'm somewhat jealous that my kids have so many more opportunities than I, and somewhat irked that they don't seem to appreciate it...but then I take a breath and realize they are teenagers. It's probably a little overwhelming to them. Part of my problem is I can't relate to wanting to 'stay home'....I couldn't wait to get out of my house! I need to work on keeping my mouth shut and just be supportive<---unfortunately I'm one of those 'knows everything and will give my opinion whether it's asked for or not'<----something I still need to work on.sigh. It'll be so great to spend some time alone with her! I'm also feeling guilty that I get some time away from my in-laws and their problems.....sigh<---not exactly a "Christian attitude". Kris, I don't do 1/8 of what you do! And then I see where Elaine is coming from, and I feel even worse for having feelings like that, and it is a reality check that I really have nothing to complain about and that I should be more patient and helpful.sigh. My eating has been going well. My weight is up a bit, but that's most likely because of weight lifting...I'm so out of shape and sore! Jezzie, I was craving ice cream yesterday as well, but settled for some fage yogurt, blueberries and slivered almonds....but since it wasn't what I wanted, I over ate....oh well. Just doing the best I can. Oh and Michael Jackson is still dead. Seriously....the media circus surrounding this is just obscene. Enough already! It's to the point that I don't want to watch the news at night. Verleen and Shelia........it will be interesting to hear what my DD thinks of the humidity....it's almost non-existent here in the inland NW. I need to get moving. Lots of stuff to do and I'm procrastinating as usual. Hope everyone has a great day! and if I don't get back to post, Have a wonderful 4th.Eileen

Just a check in but I must say...
VERLEEN, you are our personal "Master Gardner". I had to use Sevin on my cauliflower plants and hated to do it but it worked perfectly. I did not know it is not absorbed into the plant itself. Dad used it like mad but you have to understand that if there is no one to read labels for me I have to fly blind. That is not true really I could go and fetch the magnafying glass which I will put one in the potting shed soon. I also like the hot sauce in water- WHAT ratio Doris? I buy hot sauce by the quart at Sam's. bbl time to hit the garage with a nice, huge, empty trash bin to fill up. The purr faces are in high heaven as they are eating tins of sardines because it is too hot to fire up the Jeep for a cat food run. elaine

Verleen: Wayne eats at a buffet called Dynasty in Houma. We synchronize three times.
![]() He has two Bluetooths and unlimited cell phone service. I have a Trac Phone so can't talk too long. (And I wouldn't even have bought that if it weren't for him.) Kathy: Love your critters. Adorable. ..... Especially the cross-eyed brown one. Weezie: Jamie has had the experience you described. Squirrels. He thinks they watch him plant. lol. way 2: I rarely 'watch' news. Prefer the internet. (Celebrity news doesn't interest me much.) Doris: ![]() |

I used to sprinkle my plants with red pepper right out of the jar. It sure seemed to help keep other critters out of my plants. I had also tried dish soap and water that that helped also with bugs of one sort or another.
Hi to all, enjoy reading your happenings. |

Lainey, I just use one of those cheapy spray bottles you buy at Home Depot or the like, it must hold 6 cups or so. I put in probably 12 drips of Tabosco, enough that you can smell it when you spray it, noticeably smell it. It kept the dogs, neighborhood cats and skunks out. But you have to respray if it rains.
After going over recipes in that new "DTour" eating plan book, and asking dh to mark with a pencil any recipes that he would like me to try in there, I wound up making my good old fashioned meatloaf today ![]() And I told him I didn't notice his pencil marks next to recipes in that book, and he said "there arn't any recipes in there that I'm really interesting in".........so there yah go.............![]() We have fans on in the house, but today there were some clouds so it didn't get quite so hot and humid as yesterday. I kneel at the feet of those of you who live day in and day out in the humidity, dh and I both just would wilt if we lived in that, I'm afraid to say. Which limits us on moving to cheaper states in the future, so it's not a good thing. California has started to pay off some of it's creditor's with "IOU's" today, now isn't that nice?? And closing restrooms at public parks to save money.Have a pleasant evening friends. Old Doris |

My German Shepard loves to eat the sprinkler heads off.....she wants the water to come out I think. I tried everything, bitter apple, cayenne pepper and pepper oil....she would lick it off, dumb dog<---but she also eats bees and yellow jackets so there ya go.
The one product that worked is "Phooey" and I found it at Petco. Works like a charm even after it gets wet,,,BUT....DON'T GET THIS STUFF NEAR YOUR MOUTH!!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() Might work on squirrels but don't put it on the stuff you are going to eat......you could spray it on the leaves....that's what my DFIL did for his tomatoes that his dog was eating..... |

I love shopping the net. I just purchased 8 chairs for my dining room for 400.00. I've been looking for something to replace the chairs that I have now. I paid 500.00 for a 'refurbished' set about 5 years ago.....knowing it wouldn't last forever....I had to gorilla glue and screw back the table to the base after my son leaned on it....holding up fabulously since....but the chairs are not adapting well to his now 6' 3" 'flopping' that teenage boys do (veneers popping off etc.)
. So hopefully, the review that these were heavy and durable is correct......wish me luck!![]() |
