Good morning-
Had an odd thing happen last night. I have a number of containers of vegetable and herb plants on my deck. Last night something dug up my cucumber plants. Nothing else was touched. The plants and about 3 inches of dirt were on the deck. I don't think it was the neighbors' dog or the pot would have been turned over. Perhaps a racoon? Or one of the feral cats that lives in the park? I have no clue. I put the plants back in, but the root damage may be too much for them to survive. Very strange... Have a good one! -Louise |

I have been up for what seems like hours, but really only about 1.5.Still working on cleaning the nursery/laundryroom.Washed a bunch of bird dishes and have some soaking in bleach.DH will do the tubs that we use for water,I use dish pans so they can take a bath also. They hold two gallons of water.
Need to go out and put Q-dog in his day yard. Louise,I live in the country with lots of things that roam at night.DH got an owl thingee to put in the fig tree, hoping the raccoons stay out of it.We shall see.lol Maybe you could get one to put on your porch,it has a light sensor that comes on when something goes by.They have them at Wally's. Morning all!
Rushing thru today. I'm busy with last minute things to do and spending time with my pups before I leave for Seattle tomorrow. I'll have to get up at 2 AM in order to get to the airport in Duluth (100 miles) the required 75 minutes before take off at 5:20. Loved the beautiful horse picture and the stories yesterday. My neighbor has horses. Unfortunately way too many for their acreage. I have a friend who has offered me one of hers. She raises and trains them. A beautiful pinto was born last year and I said he was mine. I was joking but she said fine. I told her she should train him to pull a small buggy and sleigh. Then she'd have to train me. It's been many years since I've been on a horse and I doubt I could climb up on one now. But it would be way cool to have a small sleigh in the winter. Here's a pic of the furry critters I made for the kids. I started making them when the grown up kids were little. It's great fun to make them as colorful and silly looking as I can. Every one have a great day and I'll be back on Monday if I don't check in later today. |

Hi All,
Nice day so far here. Big rain expected. Hi Verleen, Yes from Congress Park go up Union Ave. and I am at the second Street on Left. I always have regular and decaf and regular as well as tea. I am set-up for clients but mostly for me. THis is a financial office so I am flying a desk instead of a stove in a restaurant. Once a year we have a client luncheon that I get to host. Your nephew has the best education a chef can have I think in the world. I went to SCCC and the difference is I learned how to make 300 sauces from the four mother sauces. He learned how to make 4000. Best wishes for him. Nice chat today. Hi Doris, I like to think that the meeting of my wife was destiny. Crazy that I would drive 4 hours and marry the first woman I met when I got there. ![]() Great day to all. Cheers, Jim

Louise that is odd that they (critter) only too the cuke plants roots and all. Those cirtters do strange things. I had a stray dog come up to my porch last night as a storm was brewing. He just laid down there in front of my door. I brought him some water and we chatted for a while and then he took off. He was some sort of spaniel with black and white spots. He had a tag on.
Gladys had a good idea about the light sensor. Verleen, I really do not spend much time on the computer, maybe 2 hours at the most. Some of the time is spent talking with my Dsis as I crochet or do some hand work. One of my friends suggested that I try using a different chair. Doris I don't think it is carpel tunnel, because that would be my wrist that be hurting. Kathy I just love those critters that you make. Our emergency room had stuffed animals for the kid patients but none were a cute as yours. Had you thought about making them for sick kids? Your critters are so bright and cheerful. Jim that sure is an interesting love story about marrying the first girl you met after that 4 hour trip. Had you know each other before? Just curious. Enjoying my day off in the middle of this week. No real errands today except to take step DGD to work and go to Curves oh and then do a little grocery shopping.

Hi friends....posting late today. I was waiting for Jezzie to put in a picture.....lol.....<tapping fingers on the desk>
Yoo---hoo! Jezzie! Where's our picture? I like starting the the day with something to think about.Louise, it might be squirrels that were digging in your plants. My chipmunks here, which are ground squirrels, are always digging up my plants outside in the vegetable gardens and in the greenhouse. Birds sometimes will pull the plants out to eat the cotyledons with are the first leaf-like things that are rich in nutrients and feed the new seedling before it grows true leaves. If a cat dug them out, it will have left a deposit for you. ![]() Gladys, a birders work is never done. Has the weather been oppressive? Kathy, the only way I can do 'horse' now is in a buggy....lol. I went on a vacation about 10 years ago down in the Smokey Mountains of N.C. We met my brother and his family there and we all went horse back riding by renting horses from stable. My SIL and I were the only ones who were ever on a horse before, so we got the horses for experienced riders. Rich got a 'follower' horse and Rich would not even hold the reins because he was scared to death of the horse. This was not an easy trail as there were steep hills to cover going up and down, fallen trees to jump over and a river to cross. Pretty ambious considering most people didn't know how to ride. I gave them a quickie lesson such as leaning back when going down a hill. When we hit our first downward steep hill, I looked back at Rich. He was heading down the hill and laid back so far that his head was on the horses rump. I just about died laughing. He was following instructions to the extreme. I kept having to go back and get him because his horse would stop to graze. I made it back to the stables but went into a paralytic episode and had to be carried. It was not something I should have done, but I sure had a good time. Riding a horse is very physically challenging on your legs. Have a great time on your vacation in Seattle. Hi Jim, yep, big rain expected today.......most most days this summer. ![]() So far today, we've gone grocery shopping. I took a car load of cardboard to the recylcing center. Bought some stuff at Walmart. The truth is folks, I am procrastinating. I decreed today I would transfer my old number, service and minutes from my old, broken TracFone to my new one. It will be an ordeal and not looking forward to it. I will be happy when its done. BBL to see what the rest of our crew is up to.

Hi, everyone!
![]() Had a terribly busy day yesterday. Mom had a doctor's appointment so I had to get her up early, get her washed up and dressed and out the door by 1:15. I told her we had to be out of the house 15 minutes early so we got out of the house 20 minutes after the deadline which was almost on time. We had an hours wait at the doctors then back home. I got her settled, got her lunch and waited until she finished and then had to run to the drug store. Got home about 6:30, visited with the neighbor for a while 'cause the dogs have to visit, then made dinner, coq au vin. We had a doozy of a thunder storm that knocked our power out for about 20 minutes and then a couple of minutes about a half hour later. I was ready for bed,I'll tell you! Today, I'm going to try to run some stuff over to my cousin's husband's office for her 4th of July party, maybe run to Sally Ann after since his office is only about a mile away. I have to laugh that everyone was doing laundry yesterday. Me too! I had one load all done and threw the second one into the dryer and started the dryer. I discovered I'd dropped a sock, grabbed it and threw it into the dryer and the darn dryer is now brokern. It won't start! Now, mind you, my little voice said "Don't open that door, you'll break the dryer" but did I listen. No. Now I have to find a repairman who'll probably charge me twice what I paid for the dryer! Kenwyn: You have no idea how much I wished you lived closer. I know you'd have it fixed in the blink of an eye. Love the critters you made, by the way.Well, I'm off to see if I can catch my cousin. I just got mom up at 12:45 and she's eating breakfast now. I'm sure she'll take a nap after so I'll have an hour or so to get my errands run. BBL if I can. k

Verleen: I had to do the same thing with my Tracfone. It was a piece of cake and customer service couldn't have been nicer. I had the added obstacle of buying a phone in CT and getting my NY number transferred to the CT phone. No problem. It will go fine, I'm sure.

Good day to all and Happy July as well
This month and August are killers for me but I will march onward through it the best I am able.
I found a lost button to a good pair of Cherokee shorts that I would bet on never finding so I am happy about that... I safty pinned it to the shorts till I get a sewing chance. I had a sewing bag full of laters but lost the bag somewheres in this house, garage, potting shed (well, the potting shed is pretty well cataloged in my brain now) but a waaaays to go on the house and garage. I know yall don't understand but I am tenderly going through all my parents belongings and am letting a lot of items go and will certainly let much or all of it go eventually. FOR NOW that is the best I can do. I try not to talk about the cleaning out because I know how some of you feel but I need to talk about it and here is the only place I feel comfortable doing so. I think it might be part of the grieving process for me as I am told it is very different for everyone after the early stages are completed. I am wanting my birthday Sept. 30, (67) to be a brand new start and am working very hard to have all in place for that to be possible. bbl as tomorrow is garbage day and my container is over loaded so I need to telescope everything in it so it will hold more. Need to buy the cat food tins for the Fur Purrs. Oh, I caught "Hawny" perched like a birdie on top of one of my "small" pots I had just filled with a coffee filter and fresh, expensive Miracle Grow potting soil. I was too late and had to discard all the dirt and bleach out the pot. Now I put stakes in the middle of everything and beside everything in the ground to foil the little buggers. bbl. Elaine![]()

Loretta, have you tried using speaker phones and a microphone for the computer. I was having problems with my arm, wrist and hand, and these modifications helped me. We were posting at the same time.
Kathy, your critters are so cute. I bet the kids love them. Kris, that sure is a bummer about your dryer. We would keep Kathy busy moving back and forth between NY and CT just fixing things. I got the cell phone service and minutes transferred to the new phone.....a blue-tooth thing that connects to the internet and takes pictures too. I won't use those features, I don't think. Anyhow, it took them 1 1/2 hrs to transfer everything. It seems I have an ancient cell phone and no one knew how to transfer the minutes off of it. Eventually, they found an older employee who remembered the phone and we got it done. They were laughing about my ancient phone. Well, it worked. That's what mattered to me. Until recently, when it started having problems. It also took longer because of its problems too. To get it done all in one shot, I opted to get a new number, rather than keep my old one. I didn't have voice mail on my old phone and now I do. It will come in handy on my trip to Seattle where I am meeting up with some internet friends for dinner. |

I think I have pretty much everything ready to go. Even cut the grass as it would be 2 feet high if I left it til I got back.
Elaine -- I know about going thru parents' things. I'm doing it little by little but it's not easy to think about getting rid of some of it. It feels like I am desecrating something when I get rid of their stuff. Thank goodness most of it is in their house which my brother is living in so it isn't taking up space in mine. I have enough junk of my own doing that. My brother is happy to let me go thru it all. Every time I do I get rid of a just a little bit more...throw it out, give it away to other family members or donate it. My sister has promised to help but she lives in California. Maybe when she gets home next time... I have to put cages around all my pots and barrels until the plants fill in the whole container otherwise the pups think it is great fun to go digging in the potting soil. Kris and Verleen -- I've always wanted to visit new England. I'll bring my toolbox. ![]() |

aahhhh I love the sparklie fire works,
I bet it is really cool weather there as well. ENJOY
Hotter than a lava flow here and no let up in sight. 30% chance of rain here is a joke which means a 70% chance of NO rain. I cooked some collards today and just let the vent run- it is noisy as all get out but better than heating the house up. It really is very old but runs great. I put a little peanut oil, fine ground black pepper and hot salt and a grate or two of nutmeg. Moms would have been cooked till much softer, salt pork fried and the grease added, salt and pepper. Mine are real good but hers was crazy, mad delish with cornbread and fried pork chops and gravy and ice tea with real sugar.... I am hurting myself here. I only did piddly stuff today but will get back into the swing of it tomorrow when I have an empty trash bin and I hope more energy than I did today. I have made up my mind to just close all the window shades and go nekkid in the house. "Lainey's Nudist Colony of One". I had a large iced coffee this afternoon so I may be up for a late night tonight so I may do some stuff in the house before bed. I do have a book I started before L.A. but it is scarey (Steven King says he is in awe of this writer) and I am not too sure about reading it now or exspecially at late night. "A Winter Haunting" or something like that by Dan Simmons. The Christopher Buckley book about the death of his Mum and Pup was amazing and I now plan to read some of his other books but I know that his fiction could be very different. I have all the tools you need and what I do not have I will go to the hardware store instantly and buy for you. Come by way of Gladys, to me and on to New England... hurry! Think I will watch a bit of "America's Got Talent". bbl or t. Elaine![]() Last edited by Norfolk Mermaid; 07-01-2009 at 06:47 PM.. |

Lainey and Doris-
Oh my!!!! can't stop laughing! Then there was the time when my landlord and his wife came up to check the structure on our back porch. Our main bath faces the porch and I had decided to open the blinds. You've never seen anyone move so fast to close them! Birthday suit and all. ROFLOL You all are the best! |

Yep, I heard that is why Dolly Parton cannot jog... it causes her to get black eyes.
Well, I would be more likely to knock my teeth out than to knock myself out. However, South Norfolk could get its first earth quake. It did in fact rain here.... 1, 2, 3 seconds- I counted them. The last report at 11: did say maybe more rain over night so we will see but hot again tomorrow but in the low 80's on Friday and I'll take that for sure. bbt e. |

Doris, you are too funny! ![]() Everything is packed I hope and I'll be off in a few minutes. RohnanPuppy knows something is up. He didn't eat his breakfast and is hanging close. I hope Teyla doesn't get sick from eating both her own own and his food. It figures that the weather here will warm up and the sun come out the day I'm leaving. Have a great rest of the week! |
