..... Beluga Whale .....
The Red List of Threatened Species gives both Beluga and White Whale as common names,
though the former is now more popular.

One single fossil has been found on the Baja California peninsula, indicating that the family
once existed in warmer waters. The fossil record also indicates that in comparatively
recent times the Beluga's range has varied with that of the ice pack–expanding during
ice ages and contracting when the ice retreats.

Good Morning .....

Tears are the price we pay for the unconditional love we get while they are with us.

Welcome to the Golden Board Chris.

Good morning, but not best morning. Its raining and overcast.....lol. I want my sun! I am enjoying a fresh cup of coffee brewed by Chef Rich.

I enjoyed my weekend off. Saturday I traveled to visit a friend for a few hours. Then Sunday the picnic with the parrot. I did take one picture and no one else felt like taking pictures. If I can hook up the cable to my computer, I'll download it, upload to PictureTrail and post it. I don't know why, but it all sounds like an ordeal to me.....at least today. So don't hold your breath....

Today, I just might finally paint that door to the stairwell. I'm also thinking of driving up the the greenhouse and getting some plants for my hanging pots on the porch. Those Wave petunias just don't last long. Maybe buy some lettuce seedlings. Right now I'm doing laundry. I can't believe how it piles up. Rich wears at least 3 sets of clothes a day, including all the way down to underwear. Laundry doesn't take long to pile up. He always looks like a bag of rags, but they are clean rags.

Jezzie, aren't those Beluga whales magnificent animals? I can't believe that woman is fully clothed in a skirt and all in the tank though. Why is that? When and where is your next 'date' with Wayne?

Good morning. So far it is a beautiful day here, but there is a remote chance of rain this evening, depending on which forecast you trust. DH is standing by to see if the band will play tonight. I really hope so. They've been rained out all but one Monday, so he's getting a bit annoyed.

Verleen, I know what you mean about laundry. I was completely caught up mid week and now Mount Washmore is back. DH's primary wardrobe consists of t-shirts and "gig" shirts - Hawaiian shirts, silk sport shirts, etc., and they all seem to have different washing instructions. Sheesh! My things are mostly cotton, requiring ironing. Sigh.

The Henry Hudson bridge near us is undergoing repair. There are pneumatic drills going non-stop Monday through Friday from 7:30 to 3 (with an hour lunch break). I don't know whether to close all the windows, blast music, or wear earplugs. It's driving me batty! Staying busy does help tune it out. On which note, I better go empty the dishwasher.

Love the photo Jezzie. You find some gems.

Have a good one all...

Good Morning Jezzie, Verleen, Weezie and all that follow...

Thanks for the pic Jezzie...'All creatures great and small'... huh?

We have a sunny day up here but strong chance of thunderbumpers this aft. the humidex has been in the 30's Celsius, so the air and the clouds tend to collide at these temps. The a/c is always a Godsend at this time of year.

I finally have a day to myself. I am making very minimal plans for today, maybe a few errands later on.
A full day at work tomorrow, then off on Wednesday for Canada Day July 1st, half day Thursday and full day Friday and Saturday.
I was helping my friend again yesterday packing for her move. I was over there about 5 hours, we packed and moved some small furniture to the lower level of a highrise building for the moving truck which was a 'friend of a friend' of hers. She is single and has to move on the cheap. She is downsizing too to save some money on her monthly expenditures so she has to donate lots to charity, boxes and boxes of books. I was afraid to take any as I have this to do one day too. I really must sort and give away 50% of my stuff.
The upside is I was so physically active and in the heat too. I lost a 1lb on the scales this a.m. Yeah!
My friend slept at her new digs last night, so her move is 'in transition.' She has a few more days to clear stuff out.
Glad I came here to this BB over the years to 'work out' with you guys. I felt quite strong to help physically and I am sure that is due to the exercise component of our 'way of life.'
Hope to BBL to report my menu and exercise.

Susan

Good morning folks, and welcome to Chris. nice to have you join us. Don't be shy and just join right in.

No way would I watch 7 hours of that movie at any one time. The set is 3 DVDs so at least I can keep up with that, but I will have to return it to the library and re check it out each time. I have a busy week coming up with DS #1 coming down on vacation trying to help out my other son in Evansville, not much time for movie watching. I will go over there tomorrow and lend my hands to the chore.
We have a race on the 4th, a 4 miler and then fireworks that evening at my local sons place.

Good to hear from you Kris, you sure are a bargain shopper. I thought about those dishes you bought. I really liked them. Hope is is just scar tissue for your mom and not another problem. You are such a wonderful daughter to be there for her. Don't be hard on yourself, how would you know she had a headache. Is she on any pain rx by schedule?

Verleen you folks up NY way have had lots of rain and cold weather. My friend Brian Williams was talking about it one day last week. I have supper with Brian most nights. It's a wonder your garden is growing and not water logged.

Weezie I hear you on that noise. CLosing all of the windows might help some, that and taking a lot of shopping trips. Hope they finish up soon.

Lainey, I might worry about buying drugs from a foreign market. There might be some compaines here that will provide assistance with your drugs.
Hope you find a source.

BBL folks.

Marvy Monday to all and a almost goodbye to June...

Loretta, Medicare pays for Armour (thyroid med.) but Dr.s do not want to Rx it for me. I finally get a Dr. to Rx it and he is no longer in practice ???? without explanation??? Dr.s here are in terror of being sued and charge sky high fees just for covering their asses. I had a Dr. refuse to let me go to a "HOSPITAL" gym for G*ds sake. My new Dr. (now out of practice) got me in a rehab pool, changed all my meds and I feel well for the first time in over 6 years AND am losing weight... NOW I am lost again with no help but I sure as hell do not want to change my meds for any reason. That is why I am looking for my Armour on my own. My Januvia is OKed for a year.
Kris, God is blessing you for caring for your Mother and do not ever forget that God stays very close to the broken hearted and make no mistake your heart is breaking while caring for your Mom. Think of it as getting to wear Angels wings for a while because how else could we fly about doing all we have to do for to care for them and hover at the same time over them. You will return those wings soon enough so someone else can be blessed with them when they need them.
Chris, wellcome to our world. Our goals are the same-Onederland for the short term and a size 12 or 14 by my birthday Sept. 30, (67). I am doing low glycemic LOAD which Atkins mentioned in his last book before he died as he was heading in that direction. The Zone was the original GI diet which now is refined even more to the Low GI LOAD. I love it and now eat just like a human. (It does remind me in many ways of the original Weight Watchers) I am now 215 which jeesh I hate that but I am now saying my weight instead of denying it to myself by never acknowledging the numbers.
More garage work today and watering as we seem to be in a dry spell.
Verleen, I would have been one of those adults hanging by "Rudy" as I love that kind of stuff. At the airport anybody with a cage got my gawking but you just cannot see into those carriers.
Time to join the "fairies" that are NOT cleaning my garage but first a comfy top as the one I am wearing is cool but not streachy. Time for me to climb Mt. Laundry as well.

Oh, I am so annoyed- I got Ben Button from Netflix and it crapped out where he is seeing the hummingbird while at sea... have to call them and whine.

Hello Everybody,
So sorry to hear about little Mandy...
Kris, I don't know how you do it. We went to the lake this weekend. My MIL has Alzheimers. It's really tough to see, because she is aware at times and knows she isn't thinking clearly. She got pretty mad at me when I had to step in and take care of some issues that I won't go into. But she either forgot or has forgiven me. My FIL got away with my DH for a long boat ride. I really worry about his stress level. Not much a person can do but 'ride the wave'.
Got to get going. We are celebrating my DD 21st BD tonite, so I need to fry chicken and make mashed potatoes for her <---favorite meal.
My laundry is calling also.
College tour includes Middlebury, Skidmore, Syracuse, Ithica, Bennington and Colgate. Quite the spread of places. We will be ripping and running for sure.
Waving to everybody

Products of the Hive -- Honey

Honey is the first thing we think of when we think about bees. It is the main food source for the bees, but because they do such a good job of collecting nectar and turning it into honey we humans get to share in their bounty. The bees collect nectar from flowers storing it in a special honey stomach in their abdomen. Here it is mixed with enzymes which will break the sucrose (table sugar) in the nectar into the 2 simple sugars fructose and glucose. Upon return to the hive the nectar is placed into the cells and the bees evaporate the water by fanning their wings.
-Honey is 17% water, 39% fructose, 31% glucose, 2% sucrose along with small amounts of other sugars and carbohydrates. It contains trace amounts of many minerals, vitamins and amino acids (the building blocks of life) and small amounts of enzymes.
-Honey has antibacterial properties. I seem to remember reading that sealed containers of honey have been found in the Egyptian pyramids, still edible.
-Honey contains a variety of anti-oxidants with the darker honeys having more.
-The color and flavor of honey depends on the flower sources of the nectar. It can be very light to very dark and with a very delicate to strong flavor.
-Honey can be a source Clostridium botulinum spores which are widely distributed in nature. Adults can safely ingest this without problems but because there is the possibility of their presence in honey it is recommended that honey not be given to infants under 1 year.
-Wine from honey is called mead. It can be brewed as a sweet or dry wine with the flavor affected by the flower source of the honey. I actually made a batch once which turned out very good, but I prefer to save my honey for other uses.

Afternoon all
Still gray and rainy with a high in the 50's. Looks like any garden work is going to have to wait til after my trip.

Verleen -- I don't know what you would find in Nebraska. I live in northern Minnesota. I don't raise chickens or goats but do get free range eggs from a friend and milk from a local dairy farmer. When I was working I used to tell people that I needed a wife at home to do all the housework...

Jezzie -- I was able to see the Beluga Whales at Sea World when I visited California last year. Very cool!

Susan -- So nice of you to help out your friend. Enjoy your day of rest.

Louise -- I think I'd find someplace to go on vacation if all that noise was going on around me. I remember some logging going on around my place one year. I could hear the heavy equipment all day and it just bugged me.

Elaine -- I would think that a new doctor would continue you on your current meds as long as you are doing well on them. You just have to make sure he/she knows that. But I know what you mean about breaking in a new doctor.

Waving to Kris, Jainie, and everyone else.
Have a great day.

Doing the happy dance at this birth announcement .....

The first baby rhino to be born in Uganda for decades has raised hopes for the future of an animal
that was wiped out during the bloody regime of former dictator Idi Amin, officials said Monday.

A 10-year-old female Rhino called Nandi, one of four donated to Uganda by the Disney Animal Kingdom,
gave birth last week, the state-run New Vision newspaper quoted officials as saying.

"The calf is three days old, but the mother is too protective," Angie Genade, the executive director
of Rhino Fund Uganda, said. "So, it is difficult to get close to them to establish its gender."
