Nemo didn't want to be left behind (he was. lol.)

Good Morning kiddos ...

Had my buffet date from 2:00 - 3:00 pm. Then he went to his son's home.
His youngest daughter and family were down for the weekend.
I went to the cleaners and then to Hannafords to walk off my meal a bit.

But I still felt I needed 'more' - so I did a seventeen minute hill walk.

Doris: Have to go back and actually read the 'never used hair coloring' posts.
I was using a temp color for special occasions ... until May when Wayne was
coming north for five days.
I was 'treated' by Darren & Kim to a professional cut and highlighting session.

Hope to be back later ....

Today's bee lesson - Foraging

Worker bees will forage 2-3 miles from the hive with a maximum range of 5 to 8 miles. During it's lifetime a worker bee can travel 500 miles. Each load of nectar the worker returns to the hive equals less than 1/2 milliliter. A very tiny amount. A bee collecting nectar can visit over 50-350 flowers before returning to the hive.
To make a pound of honey, worker bees must forage nectar from millions of flowers. 150 pounds of honey, in mileage, would equal 13 round trips to the moon. To communicate the location of nectar sources, bees perform several
different and distinct dances.
Pollen is important food for bees. Worker bees have tiny pollen baskets on their hind legs. They pack the pollen into these to return it to the hive where it is stored. The full pollen baskets are very noticeable...bright yellow clumps on their hind legs.
**********************
Morning all!

Looks like another cool day here. If it doesn't rain I want to get started on digging up my herb garden and replanting it.
Jezzie, nemo is like my pups. As soon as the car door is open they hop in. No way are they being left behind if they can help it.

Every one have a great day.

Serene Sunday to all,

It is real hot but not as bad as the past few days. Rain maybe overnight.
I am starting the garage today with all gardening and tools out to the shed where there is now some room. First order of the day out there is to take tons of stuff out and place it in the drive way so I can hook up several fans (one really large one- thank heavens) and before the fans start twirling do a light puffings of insect killer as I am covered in horrible insect bites that are seeping and itching like crazy. I am using alcohol wipes and it helps some. I got a reaction from the repellent last year and sure am avoiding that stuff. June was potting shed so July will be garage and August will be the house and THEN I can play, play and PLAY some more. I will take breaks today and pull a weed or two as I pass the little devils as I go to and fro and hither, dither and yon.
Oh, I bought a really pretty eggplant at the store and discovered I had prettier ones ready on my plant- they were hidden in the foliage.. Oh well, I will make the low carb Mussaka I love so much and freeze some. All my toms are still green but I am eating peppers to beat the band. I love summer and veggies are 1 and 2 cup servings so they get used easily.
bbl
I need a Rx foreign site to get thyroid meds without a Rx. Janie gave me a India site a few years ago and I got meds from Mexico before too but need more sites to check out. Anyone?

Awww, Nemo!!!

Good morning Jezzie, good morning everyone.

Had a sad day yesterday, as my sweet puggie, Mandy (my avatar photo and inspiration for the puginabug name) passed away in her sleep overnight. We found her on her blanket yesterday morning. She was going to be 17 years old in a couple of weeks. Knew it was coming, but we are all very sad.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend, I am off to clean the house---such an exciting life!

Good morning all-

Trying to finish the back to a sweater i've been knitting sporadically for several years. It's an oversize jacket with cabled front, sleeves and hood. I've finished the front pieces but the back is just tedious! Almost there...

Cookie, I'm so sorry about your Mandy. She had a very long life, and I am sure you will miss her terribly.

Elaine - will calamine lotion help your bites? Just thought it might sting less than alcohol wipes.

Jezzie - I admire your energy. Trying to overcome my lazy Sunday feeling. Will get out and walk later.

Kathy - I hope the weather cooperates with your gardening plans. I need to put something in to replace the spinach which doesn't like the hotter weather we've been having.

Have a great day everyone!

Oh Cookie, I'm so sorry to read about the passing of your little friend Mandy. At least you have photos and happy memories, but it is a sad thing and I feel badly for you and your family.

Jezzie, I love your photo today also, I need to snag it, that's a good one for a Christmas card in fact!!! And it's good that you felt like walking your 17 minutes after you got home, some changes already happening for you when you consider what you would have done, say, 4 months ago.

Kathy, what little wonders those bees are allright. It is good your info reminds us of how much we need bees in this world, thanks!! I wonder if you got to get some gardening done?

Lainey, you have prescribed work for yourself during the hottest, nastiest time of the year, oh MY!! How can you prescribe thyroid meds for yourself without the blood tests to see how high or low your own numbers are?? It's dangerous to just "wing it". Do you have a blood test kit at home or a friend who can test it for you? The health insurance for seniors in this country is a shambles if we have to do stuff ourselves like this. I've been writing our senators, congress/dopes and they send back all the "pat replies" that say nothing and mean nothing.

Louise, I admire you for knitting anything!!! I just can't do that kind of thing, ever.

I'm wishing everyone a wonderful Sunday, if you can manage it. I'm trying to enjoy a few minutes here and there today also.

Hi everyone. Its almost the evening. Better late than never. We packed the car and our one parrot and went on a picnic at the Great Sacadaga Lake. It was a bit crowded as this has been the only nice day in awhile and it is the weekend. But all the kids gave Rudy, the parrot, something to watch.

Cookie, I know how much sadness you have, as I have been there too. Mandy went in her sleep. How I wish mine had done the same. Many hugs.

Jezzie, how unusual that you posted Nemo's picture today. They do love to go with us in the car.

Kathy, thank you for the more interesting info about bees.

Lainey, you and I have been on similar missions this summer to get our properties in order. I'm on a break now and you're making me tired girl! If your doctor gives you a prescription, I know people are getting the same drugs that we get here from the same pharmaceuticals in Canada and esp Mexico at a fraction of the cost. I just don't know where. Have you tried googling for information? I had a friend who lived in southern CA and he would take his doctor's script and go over the border and buy a prescription for $2 that would cost him $100 here. Same drug, same manufacturer.

Louise, hope you get your knitted sweater task behind you soon. Another thing checked off your 'to do' list. I gave us knitting after my first daughter was born. I thought I should knit her little sweaters and bonnets. I gave that up quick. A never ending task. I need more immediate results....lol.

So sorry to hear about your Mandy, Cookie. That dog sure lived a good life to make it to 17 years. I know you will miss her.

Thanks Kathy for all of your info on the bees. They sure have their system down pat just following mother nature.

Trying to watch Holocost. I did not know that it was a 7 hour movie. Guess I will return it and try again next weekend. I'll be lucky to get the first DVD watched. It is good though so far.

Rained off and on all day so I sewed some furry critters for the kids. I couldn't believe it when the phone rang and I noticed it was 5:30! Time flies when you're having fun.

Cookie -- So sorry about your Mandy. She went quietly and at home; it's what I have wished for all my furry kids I have lost.

Elaine -- You have a busy summer planned. I'll bet you'll enjoy your play time when it gets here! I remember a while back that busloads of senior citizens would go across the border into Canada to get meds. The state even endorsed it for awhile. I don't know if they still do it.

Louise -- I have an afgan that you could finish for me. I started it many, many years ago.

I spoke to my niece yesterday about my upcoming trip. Only 4 days away. I'd better start packing!

Hi all,

Thanks for kind words about Rx. I will google later on.
Verleen, not too hot today as if was over cast just about the entire day but the humidity and dust from sweeping in the shed and garage made breathing just about impossible. I felt so tired at one point that I made a large strong coffee and of course that did nothing at all. I noticed a few flowers on that damn privet bush at my front door and am pretty sure my allergy to that bugger kicked in big time. I did get the fans going in the garage and a lot of potting shed items moved from the garage to the shed which was tiring in itself. I think all these insect bites are making me a bit sick as well and am thinking of taking a benedryl but that stuff puts me into a coma but I think I will take one at bed time. Now that I am in the house I have the a/c going and that will help some. And YES, I even pulled a few weeds but boy oh boy that was tuff.
My motivation is to get it over with once and for all.
Yesterday and today I ate bananas and I honestly think I had a real bad effect from eating them. They are considered an untouchable for their very high glycemic load count and it has been a very long time since I had them.
I dunno- they were small but it is a trigger food for me and I should have left them in the store as I will from now on.
Cookie, it is so devastating to lose a beloved pet and my heart goes out to you. Sometimes it is just good to have another heart beating near you and sharing your love. I fell in love with those dogs when I saw the movie "As Good As It Gets". When he jumped over that crack in the side walk like Jack Nicholson I was a goner. God bless you and Mandy.
bbl or t need to read some then the Benedryl a few hours after my night meds.
Oh, they stopped those buss trips to Canada somehow. This country is so screwed up with lobbying and problems with... sheesh, never mind.

Hi, everyone!

Wow. Lots of catching up for me to do.

Cookie: I'm so sorry about Mandy. It's so hard to lose a beloved pet but like Verleen said, it really was a good thing that she just went to sleep on her blanket in her home. I'd consider that a blessing for everyone and, of course, you were blessed to have her in your life. I had to tell myself that when I lost my little 18 year old Westie. Loving her was worth the pain of losing her.

Jezzie: You make me smile when you talk about having lunch with Wayne. I think that's about the sweetest thing I've ever heard.

Verleen: I love you taking your parrot for a day at the lake. Does he hate having to go home?

Lainey: You sure have set a furious schedule for yourself this summer. Please take care. Have you tried white vinegar or coconut oil on your bug bites? You sure sound like you have an allergy to them with them weeping the way they are. Again, please take care and don't overdo.

Kenwyn: I'm so excited for you about to go on vacation. I've also been loving your bee tutorial. I've learned lots. Thank you!

Loretta: I'm trying to remember if I've ever seen Holocaust. I think I started it with DH and then got too depressed to finish it. DH loves anything WWII. I prefer something light, romantic and funny or a good action adventure or mystery. I just want to be entertained and not have to think overly much when I watch a movie.

Doris: Why doesn't it surprise me that you write to your congressmen? I think it's wonderful and that more people (like me ) should do it.

I did get very vociferous when we were fighting that dump in Ava. I really have to get stirred up and then look out. I have to chuckle reading some of your posts because I bet that you and I would have been hip to hip picketing over that dump.

Between thunder storms and other things I've missed a couple of days.

Thursday, mom had a doctor's appointment with the oncologist at UCONN. A funny shadow turned up on her wrist X-ray, right where that darn tumor was. The doctor doesn't know if it's scar tissue or a recurrence. Mom is scheduled for an MRI next month to try to determine what's going on.

It's going to be interesting because the last time she had an MRI she swore that she'd never have another one. I guess we'll just have to see how it goes. I'm not telling her before hand that she's going to have one, that's for sure. I'm also hoping that she's forgotten about the last one she had.

I picked up a very nice silver plated tea set at Sally Ann's last week. Mom just loves it. She bugged me until I had it all polished up and then wasn't happy until I found a tray to put it on. Now she's happy just looking at it. The tray I have the set on is an old stainless one I found in the pantry. She'd really like a matching one so I guess I'll search e-Bay for a bit to see if I can find one. From the little bit of research I did this afternoon, the market for silver plate is very soft so I might be able to pick one up reasonably. My problem is the shipping and handling charges are so high. I found a matching coffee pot and the shipping and handling were twice the buy it now price! I know everyone has to make a living but... I ended up not bidding on it because S&H were so high. There weren't any bids as a matter of fact and the auction was going to be over in a couple of hours. Maybe it will come on again with lower shipping and handling.

Mom had a sleepy day today and then wouldn't eat dinner because she said she had a headache and that I should have given her some medicine for it before it got so bad. I would have if I had known! I think she must have been dreaming that she told me she had a headache. It sure does bother me some when this kind of thing happens. I can't fix things I don't know about and mom gets so upset with me. So, I ate a whole potful of rice. Pure stress eating. I've been doing so well keeping on plan with my stomach problem and being super careful about what I eat. I'm going to have to redouble my efforts to get rid of the million carbs I ate tonight.

See everyone tomorrow.

It was good to hear from you Kris, we were wondering what was up with you, amongst some of the other regulars on here.

Doesn't that E-Bay drive you nuts with that shipping and handling rip off?? I feel as though they have taken the fun out of finding unusual things. Many souls have made a personal business out of selling on E-bay. Do you fix tea in those large pots and use them for fun, or on special occasions only?

At least you only had a pot of rice to eat, try a whole box of See's Truffles sometime................lol.

Yes, I write the Congress persons, but right now my personal "thing" is ladie's magazines and how they keep pushing at we women to be "perfect".

Good Evening gang. Wondering about Janie, Glenda, and Kerri also. And I hope Loretta is doing ok with that sore shoulder. Always something at our ages it seems. I was trying out some Tai Chi in the kitchen that I saw on tv this AM, and hit the fridge door with my ankle, lol. My own fault of course. So I did indeed call out "TAI CHI" loud and clear when I did that.............

I'm new here, but would like to make some friends to chat with.
Puginarug--Sorry for your pet loss. They can be such a comfort.

After hearing about all your cleaning, I will attack a cabinet in the kitchen which holds candles that I don't use anymore becuse of the soot they leave on the walls. So out they go!! Same thing with all the bags of old receipts too. Then I can organize the cook books in there.
Of course laundry to do, and one flower bed in the back yard. Oh, off to the store to buy more pink wave petunia, because I over fertilized and killed off the other 12 plants. I have 2 chores for my subdivision to do, go the police and schedule the electric speed sign and try to find a septic tank pumping company who will give all of us a discount. You would think with all these chores that we are doing, it would be easier NOT to over eat.
KRISA--you are a special person to take care of your mom. My mom lived 3 hours away from me and always had chores she wanted me to do for her-immediately-and I had 2 small boys. Later she was very unhappy when she went to live in a nursing home because I did not take her into my home-she needed 24 hour care, could not walk and expected to be waited on hand and foot. I could not do it, but the guilt was overwhelming at times. You are a wonderful daughter, just do the best you can.

Chris. I have had problems with Wave petunias myself. They seem to have a limited short life and then just fizzle out. I've never had any that could last half a summer season. I tried both Waves and Cascadias this year. The Waves are nearly dead and the Cascadias are still going strong. So I'm going to the greenhouse and getting some Cascadias and repotting the 2 hanging pots with them. Hopefully they still have some. I'm beginning to think those Waves are not worth the extra money they cost.

Loretta, like Kris, I try to avoid disturbing movies, plus 7hrs long! Holy cow, I'm not sure I could watch a movie that long. You are tenacious Loretta....lol. I fell asleep last night watching a show on dinosaurs. I love dinosaur programs and still I fell asleep. I couldn't stay awake for just an hour.

Kathy, oh my, you sew too, besides fixing everything, bee keeping and gardening. Gosh you would have made me a great wife. If you tell me you have milk goats and eggs from free range chickens, I'm moving to Nebraska. When I was working during my career, I always said I would have loved a great stay-at-home 'wife'. Instead I had a mostly stay-at-home husband who ate, drank, watched TV and made messes in the house that he didn't clean up. That was my ex-husband who I was married to for 25 yrs. I must be tenacious like Loretta.....lol.

Lainey, I loved "As Good As It Gets" too. Extra funny for me because I live with an Asperger man with OCD, but he's not even near as bad as Jack Nickelson's character. They don't go into it in the movie, but the character was definitely Asperger as well as OCD. I don't know about you Lainy, but I feel good when I get things done. I feel like it was a day worthwhile. I just never could lay around, read, sunbathe, lie by a pool, etc. I still can't and I get bored to death.

Kris, we left before Rudy, the parrot, got overly tired and begged/nagged us to go. She had a great time. There were lots of kids there and she watched them intently, whistled to them, and soon had them over by her cage. She belted out a few phrases and had some adults over, asking about her. You are one terrific daughter. It might help if you just let some of your mom's crankiness slide off your shoulders. She doesn't mean it and is the way she is because of age.

Doris, I buy things off eBay too, but not a lot. Not like some people that seem addicted to it. I think its another form of gambling, plus you know how I feel about accumulating 'stuff'. Last night I was watching some succulent plants but got too tired and forgot about the auction. Saved some money again! I won't buy from people who offer something really cheap and then charge way too much in shipping and handling to make up the difference. I would rather pay the fair price for the item and close to what the actual shipping cost is. I feel they think the buyers are stupid and think they are getting a great deal.
