OT: Has anyone here NEVER colored their hair?

I've colored my hair most of my life. My hubby didn't even know I was not a "REAL BLONDE" until after we married, and went shopping for groceries for the first time, and I picked out a box of hair color. He asked me "What color is your hair really?" And I told him "almost as dark brown as yours"......but we stayed married, lol lol lol

What is your story my friends??

I've never colored my hair.
It's a medium brown and had auburn highlights when I was younger. Still mostly brown with silvery highlights along the sides. I take after my Dad who's hair was mostly dark when he passed away at 74. Mom on the other hand said she started coloring her hair when we kids started pulling it out of her head.

Well that is worth noting then ladies..... Kathy, I have no friends personally that have never colored their hair!!! Loretta, oh my, and RED yet too!!!
We had a lady down the street who used to do her hair red, but a bright, violet shade of red, you could see her coming down the road when she walked, from way far away by the corner the red stood out like a sore thumb. She worked for the post office, and finally some supervisor made her "subdue her Do". I don't think they can do that anymore. Well, her husband and she broke up, and she moved back to the city from here, and I understand she had lots of boyfriends there.

My my...........

Gee, even two of my friends who are natural, really light blondes still colored their blonde hair to change the shade of it. One still does, the other let it go white now, but we are all 62, went to Kindergarten together.

Have a pleasant evening.

I've been coloring my hair since I was 14. Both of my grandmothers had pure white hair so I actually looked forward to it. However, when I let it grow out I was not white, it was just plain ugly. My hubby complained I looked so old. So, now that I am "old" I'm looking pretty washed out with my light brown hair, so I think I'm going redder.

I've never coloured mine. It was a sort of sand/honey colour when I was younger but has faded to soft brown most of the time, just lightening up to gold in full sunlight these days (I'm 48).

We have a gal at church in her 80s that has colored her hair for years. She has worn her hair out and doesn't have hardly any left. She is always perming or coloring. Her hair is just tired of it.

I was reading an interesting article recently. I think it was In Science News.
Hair turns gray when the stem cells in the hair stopped working.

"following exposure to high doses of radiation, hair on mice as young as 7 to 8 weeks grew in gray, while control mice remained brown, the team found. Other DNA-damaging agents, including hydrogen peroxide, had the same graying effect."

So it's possible that people that have colored their hair for years have hastened the graying if it....

Here's the link if anyone is interested: Stressed-out DNA Turns Mousy Brown Hair Gray / Science News

Never. My hairdresser says I am his only "virgin hair."

I've always like my natural color and never saw a reason to change it.

Well, many modern haircolors haven't used peroxide, there are other things they switched to. Back in the 1970's that Summer Blonde stuff still used peroxide though. It is hard to find peroxide even just for household use these days. But vanity does crazy things to we humans. Just think of all the money spent on our looks, fed by the Media and our culture. How many businesses would go under suddenly if we all just kept on looking the way we look, period?? This country would go under, most of the Western World would go under. They say Spa's are having trouble staying open during this bad economy, especially here in California.

Reminds me to make my hair appt. for July this coming week though, lol. I do feel younger when I color my hair, so at the moment, that's my bottom line I guess. At some point, that will change too.

I started coloring it in High School and have been ever since....I take after the relatives in my family that have mostly or all gray hair. A few were totally white by the age of 25...not me but in my late 30's/early 40's I noticed it was a lot more gray and was just going to let it go but I look awful with gray hair so back to brown in a box! I had it auburn for a few years till DH asked me when I was going back to brown....he likes plain brown so that's mostly what I do.

My girlfriend's husband has that in his family too, where they get white hair at a young age. There is a name for it, but it beats me as to what it is......but he came to our wedding and looked so "distinguished" we thought he was years older than she was, but he was my husband's age.

Thanks for all the responses friends.

I've colored my gray for years. I was naturally black, but now it's dark brown. Once I went red, but my husband refused to go anyplace with me. It was really ugly.

I had my hair frosted ONCE when I was about 18. God never meant for me to be a blond. It looked terrible.

I have medium brown hair with lots of gray coming in, especially around my ears. I have to decide to dye or not pretty soon but I'm leaning toward not. I just don't want to have to worry about one more thing.

I have mine coloured every 6 weeks or so, it is coloured medium brown roots with blonde highlites, 2-3 different shades of blonde. I really like it and enjoy having my hair done.

Yes, I color...but, I use only "non-permanent" hair color. Permanent is way too harsh and causes a horrible, red, itchy reaction on my scalp. I am even allergic to certain non-permanent brands. Finally found one that doesn't bother me at all and looks perfectly natural.
