Good Morning .....

One thing on my agenda today. Haircut. Kim's taking me to her "Antonio".

Loretta: Please take care of yourself. Speedy recovery.

Kris: It certainly was a pronounced temperature plummet. I liked it.

Gladys: I share your health philosophy. Our body is a wonderful machine.
I try to let it do it's own healing. But - assistance is sometimes required.

Jezzie, my you are up early. Do we get any before and after shots of your hair? Anybody named 'Antonio' probably does a great job....lol.

That is a nice picture. I've always wanted to go to British Colombia, Vancouver, etc. In July, I'll be the closest ever when we are in Seattle.

Today, more sunny weather, and a few degrees warmer than yesterday. I think of Doris and her higher elevation. We live in the foothills of the Adirondacks which puts us one zone colder than Albany. If we drive north for just 30 minutes, like I did yesterday, it is much colder and in zone 3, whereas we are in zone 4. Just a 30 minute drive, but significantly colder because of the increase in elevation. I was at a greenhouse up there. They had 2 nights of killing frost with temps in the low 20s and are just 30 minutes from me. We haven't had a killing frost yet in April. Its been unusually warm so far.

Today is another busy one, but that's what I like. I have some dr appt stuff to tend to. This afternoon when it is warmer, I will paint the front porch steps and the remaining light post. I put primer on the post yesterday. I'm not sure what else yet. More yard work for sure but I may be on my own, and therefore limited in what I can do. Rich is getting burnt out by the yard work and I'm not pressing him for help today. I'm giving the man a break. If he volunteers, I'll have him dig up the 2 half dead sprawling junipers out of the front bed. And replace the light bulb in the one light post. That's not as easy as it sounds. I see spaces in my pea bed where pea seed didn't germinate. So I'll fill them in with more peas today. There is plenty of weeding that I can do in the veggie beds. I need to thin out the swiss chard too.

I hope Loretta is on the mend. She sounds like she is seriously ill. I hope her children are checking in on her and bringing chicken soup.

Hello again. Been really busy lately. Just wanted to stop by and say "hi" to everyone.

Soon it will be time for spring planting. Everything is blooming here in Ohio, but we usually don't plant annuals in the ground until around Mother's Day.

I'm a bit concerned about my 89 yr. old mom who lives in Brownsville, TX which is right on the Mex. border. She goes to the doctor almost weekly for one reason or another and I worry about her sitting in waiting rooms with people who might have this flu. She is so vulnerable.

Verleen<----your sweet baboo sounds like my kinda guy! I too was excited to find colored duct tape! I used the bright yellow to highlite the in-laws steps when my DMIL had her hip replaced....everybody got a good laugh out of that. But when their toilets break they are calling me to help.
Well, I can do some things but usually if it can't be fixed with duct tape, hammer/penny nails or gorilla glue...it's time to call a pro.
I used to be able to make simple appliance repairs as well. But now with all the high end computer technology, it's way out of my league. You have to know your limitations<---bring on the 'service agreements'.
I'm itching to plant something, but here in the Pacific Northwest the rule is to plant after mothers day...
bbl all
Loretta, hope you are feeling better.....
Janie, what news of your dad?
Jezzie...beautiful picture. How would we start our days without you? Antonio....hmmm, keep us in the loop please!

Fluffy: The flu, any flu, is of concern to the elderly and very young.
And the people who love them of course. Good thoughts heading your way.

I'm not elderly yet. Counting on percentages. - I haven't died from a flu yet.

Verleen: BC and Northwest Canada have long been on my shortlist.
Along with New Zealand (#1), Wales, Acadia National Park in Maine (a possibility).

No before pictures. lol. Right now it's halfway down my back. Home haircuts. lol.

*** Edited: Thanks Way 2. My DDIL's hairdresser has done a bit of TV work.
Star makeover type stuff. ... He'll need a miracle to help me.

We have the "after May 15th" rule here. - Usually it's earlier than that though.
A lot of people plant 'on' Mother's day.

Jezzie, did Antonio make you look beautiful for Wayne?

Hi Fluffy. Yes, the elderly have to be careful about any flu. Pehaps you could see that your mother gets a mask and carries alcohol wipes for her hands. Everytime she touches something, she should use a wipe. Advise her to try to find a seat away from other people.

My young man who helped me with the yard work showed up today. I thought that I had seen the last of him. So, I'm happy and he did another chunk of work outside from 9:30 am until 1:00 pm. I'm not going to be able to paint my front porch steps as I planned to do because it started raining. I should get out there and plant some peas in the spaces where they didn't come up....even in the rain.

The first case of swine flu may have shown up at the high school this afternoon.

One of the boys collapsed and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. He hadn't been to Mexico but had been in contact with someone who had been. We'll see. I'm sure they're waiting for test results before they panic.

I'm a bit in a dither about the situation. The powers that be are talking about cancelling school tomorrow to decontaminate the building but they're going ahead with a fund raiser tonight. It's a sold out house for a "Mr. East Windsor" contest where the senior guys dress up in drag and have a beauty contest.

Good grief! If they're thinking of cancelling school tomorrow they should have cancelled the contest tonight! Nothing like getting a bunch of kids who were in contact with the sick kid in the auditorium with a closed ventilation system (I know because I went to the same high school). What are they thinking???

Hi Kris and Verleen,

The Dr.s here on TV said it is time to start stock piling several days of food and supplies but not to panic.
I just heard tonight that we have our first case diagnosed in the Norfolk area.
I went to a OA meeting tonight and was much impressed with the spirit of the stories of the people there. I made the commitment to attend meetings weekly.
BBl I missed my Survivor fix so want to look it up.

Kris, I too am appalled at the stupidity of the ruling class.........at that school in Sacramento that had several sick kids, they decided to close the school, but still held a Mass there that night, and the next morning, when the tv news stood out in front, some parents came with their kids and didn't know ONE thing about that Flu and the kids, so the school didn't let parents know or the parents are typical dunderheads who don't pay attention to the news. Airports and airplanes should have been cancelled 2 weeks ago, but the tourist industry would scream about that. There was mention of some kind of Flu back around Christmas in Mexico, but it was squashed due to the tourism industry that makes tons of dough on people going there in the winter. grrrrrrr

It's dark grey, and the main mountains are disappearing with clouds so the rain should be starting in a few hours. Boy, do our forests need this rain too, it is supposed to rain thorughout most of California by tomorrow night too, which is good because Southern California is very dried out. They wouldn't even be there if it weren't for water from up here in fact.

I stocked up on stuff yesterday, but forgot to get nonfat dried milk, actually, lol. I used to keep some of that on hand up here, just in case the power went out for several weeks or something like that.

I'm so worried about Loretta, I don't recall when she has been off so long due to an illness, hopefully she is home in bed and her son or DIL is there to take care of her.

Kris, I worry about my mother, who lives more down south in the valley, there is the Flu there, and most of the people who work at her assisted living place have relatives that travel to Mexico frequently, and she mentioned that several had parties down there in fact, and then they returned to work and even brought her some little do dads as presents.

Doris: I hear you on the ruling dunderheads.

The school district next door has been closed for several days because of a confirmed case of swine flu. The kid had just gotten back from vacation in Mexico and HAD NOT SET FOOT IN THE SCHOOL!

I'm looking for a little happy medium here. A little common sense.

I had to run to the grocery store today and as I was walking through the parking lot, I passed a woman who was walking to her car and she coughed right in my face! I almost said something to her like "cover your mouth" but I didn't want a parking lot confrontation.

I guess I'm glad that mom almost never leaves the house.

I hope your mom is OK.

Jezzie, how did you like the hairdresser "Antonio" today? I hope he fixed you up nicely. I too "snip snip" at my own hair now and then.

May has snuck up on us, I noticed our future DIL had a birthday coming May 7 and I had bought a card but no Gift Card, and it always seems to take so long to get a gift card to Texas, for some odd reason. Than I remembered I was supposed to get my brother's an "In & Out" card too, so ordered them. Various Flower places E-mailed me to remind me of the coming of Mother's Day, I kept waiting until it got closer because I'd hoped they would have some "specials" and I'm a cheap broad!!! But so far nothing cheaper at all, same prices as a few months ago. We can't afford to drive down to see my Mother either, but dh's Mother we will drive down for, and take her out to lunch at a casino. Won't have to stay overnight for that.

So that is why I cut my own hair, can't afford to get a cut and color, or anything else...............lol.

See you guys in the AM.

Hi Kris, I just noticed that you posted! I hope you and your Mom also stay well throughout this. That is awful of someone coughing like that, after all the stuff on the news especially!!

Doris
