Guten Morgen Everyone

Loretta: You are an angel to look after Bob but I think the family is taking advantage.

Kerri: A patio area. That sounds like a lot of work. Take it slow.

Kris: I have been so fortunate. I think I've only 'lost' three posts in about ten years.

I see lots of almond talk. The praline pecans Wayne sent were a bit too sweet for me.
I actually prefer all nuts raw and unsalted. (But I do like 'salted' cashews).
The shrimp gumbo was good but I should have added more rice. It was too thin for me.

See y'all later.

Good morning all!

-17 here this morning. We just can't shake the cold weather this year. I'm hoping for a really nice spring to make up for it.

I'm back on call at the ambulance hall today.

Guten Morgen Jezzie, Elaine and Kathy. Thanks for the beautiful picture Jezzie.
My mom did speak a little German, some of the words she knew well were swear words. One year we found her a Christmas Carol LP in German and some of the singing was from a boys choir.

Lainey did those you want to win Oscars, win? Not much of a movie fan here and don't even know the current stars names? Sort of lost interest in the art of movies.

Kathy that is pretty cold there in Mn. You and Susun can probably match the coldest temps. Hope your on call time is not too busy with sick people.

Gladys, hope your back is feeling some better today.

Kerri that patio you are working on sounds like a lot of work. Are you using bricks or some sort of stone for the base? I was looking over my place the other day and wondering where I can put out some flowers. I guess I will line my walkway with container flowers. I miss that part of home owning.

I had a restless night with concerns about setting boundaries with Bob's care. Today I am going to try to see the social worker at the Nursing home and turn these concerns over to her. The family needs to hear a professional assessment of Bob's condition and the fact that he cannot really care for himself. SOMEONE needs to see about his bills and house etc and that is not going to be me. I need to step back from doing too much which in the long run will not help Bob and will drive me batty. Thank you all for your concerns. I knew I was getting in too deep. So it will just be friendly visits from now on.

Hope you all have a great day. Hi to our MIAs and lurkers.

Loretta,we keep learning.
It's very nice out the sun is shining and the air is just right.
Jezzie gumbo is soupy, most people use very little rice.Did he send frozen gumbo?
When we lived in Germany for a yr. I had learned a few words but most are gone now.Wish I could go back for a visit.Maybe Doris and a bunch of us could go.That would be so much fun.I want to go back to Kaiserslautern, but I couldn't find our old house. We lived in the basement and everyday the landlady put fresh flowers by the bedroom door.
Good memories.

Hi, everyone!

I'm going to try this again. I can't imagine what I did last night to make me lose my post and end up in the Playground but I've clipped my nails and hope for the best today.

Jezzie: Thanks for the great pictues of the castles and church. I love them. I laughed when I read the description of Creole and Cajun cooking. I cook just like that!

Kenwyn: I'd go to the church for the view, too, if they had good music. I have several recordings of accapella groups singing in cathedrals and the sound is spectacular.

Doris: Hope your DH is feeling better and I'm happy that you had an easy dinner night last night, if I'm remembering correctly.

I cook squid for DH from time to time at home. You should see me. I look like the creature from the black lagoon! Those darn thing splatter so much, I line the kitchen with newspaper, cut a head hole and arm holes in a big black plastic trash bag, wear goggles and have kitchen mitts on my hands. Those little buggers sure are good, though!

Lainey: Your soup sounds delicious. I'll have to try that one of these days. I'm posting a recipe for Spiced Nuts in the recipe thread. I make these to put in my Christmas baskets and everyone loves them. Savory, sweet, a little heat and butter. What's not to like. They make up in a snap, too. I use a sil-pat in my baking sheet to keep the nuts from sticking and I also use straight pecans just because I can get them in bulk for a little better price and DH likes them better than almonds.

I love okra! I had a friend in Miami who would coat them with cornmeal and fry 'em up. So good.

Kerri: Hope you had great time at your DGD's party. That patio sounds like a lot of work to me. I started one at home but since the place with the cement squares I was using was 40 miles away, I only got there once a month and they didn't deliver at that time, I never got it done the way I wanted. Maybe one of these days.

Gladys: Have you tried Castiva on your back? It helped me last year when I wrenched my knee. They have a cooling one and a warming one. I used the warming one during the day and the cooling at night just because the cooling one smells very strongly of wintergreen. The warming one smells like cinnamon.

Back in the day, DH and I caught our own frogs, cleaned and cooked them. They were wonderful. I bought some several years ago at a big grocery store and they were horrid. I couldn't eat them at all. I think they were imported from Africa and they just tasted really freezer burned. I'll never do that again. I've also gotten to be a softie and my frog catching days are over.

Loretta: I'm glad you've made a decision about Bob. You've been such an angel to him but it's time for his family to step up to the plate. I can't see anything but grief for you if you get involved with his finances, repairs, etc.

I think your idea of potted plants along your sidewalk sounds like a great idea.

Susan: Love your new avitar.

Whew! Looks like I may have caught up with everyone! If I lose this post, I'll call!

Have a great day!

I just got online at 5 pm today, so I'm really late with reading up on posts. It's rained and winded all day long, dh went back to bed several times because it was just one of those grey days. I felt depressed from it, to tell the truth.

Figured out with watching all that tv with dh, no wonder we both gained weight, he kept thinking of snacks every 40 min, when ever he saw me get up, it was like, gee, whatcha got to eat?? lol

Thanks for all the stats on those almonds Lainey. So, they come from that Emeral snack nut company, I think I know where they would be in the Costco that we go to. They use fake sugar, but then the potato starch is the funny one that adds carbs to them, wonder why?? I think I'll go online and ask them that in fact. But it's a snack you can make room for and enjoy every day, so what the heck?? I have several favorite snacks that I call on every day. If I can't snack, then I may as well just subscribe to the Lane Bryant catalog and call it a day, really.

Kris, that is odd, I read your post last night but it was too late to answer, I too wondered as to how you got to the Playground. At first, I thought you meant you went to some playground site, lol.

Loretta, those plant containers sound like a good idea, dh loves containers too, makes it alot easier on our backs and so on. I hope the social worker can help out in a good way soon.

Jezzie, it's good that you are getting some of these new tastes into your life now, don't you think so? Good or bad, it must be fun to try them out anyway. At least you don't have a shell fish allergy, that would be my stumper. Thanks for the Salzburg photo today. dh and I stood up at the top of the castle, and we all talked about the place we were going to eat when we took that little finicular back down to the city center.....lol What is it about travel and food anyway??

Gladys, that's funny that you lived in a basement, others that I have talked to who lived in Germany while being in the service, they either lived in a basement or up high in an attic, with rickety stairs that they got tired out of climbing every day, lol. But they always say the food was good.

Kathy, I hope you don't have too many calls today!!!

I gotta go check the rest of my mail out.

Oh Kerri, that is a baby darling...so sweet looking.
I got home tired today from running around so much and was real cross with my cats- they get into the house and I have the devil of a time getting them out. Now I have a bad headache which might have been coming on and that made me so irritable.
Lots happened today but I am too tired to tell about it tonight so I will tomorrow.
Off to bed with myself and I did make up with "Two Mommy" a little while ago so he is waiting on my bed on the elec. blankey for me to join him.
