Do you grind your own almonds to get the almond flour Loretta?? I'm thinking of getting some, after we talk with the doctors on Tuesday, since dh is having problems with his blood sugars lately and we can't figure out why. May have to go back to the 2004 type of menus, when he got cut way back. He won't be a "happy camper" though. I used to buy it in a bag at the Natural Food store, and it cost alot of "dough", I'm sure it's even more expensive now.

Be back tonight. Yes, it's "dish washing" time again, lol.

Yes I do grind my own almonds. I get a big bag of them from Sam's club (3 pounds, maybe) and first grind them in the food processor and then to get them finer I put them in my magic bullet or coffee bean grinder. I use the flour sifter to get it refined. Do you think that some of his meds might be causing an elevation in the blood sugar.
I quit taking niacin to help lower my cholesterol because I saw some posts where niacin might raise blood sugars. I'll find out next Nov when I see the doc again.

Thanks Loretta, now I remember I did used to buy the almonds at CostCo for that purpose. The steroid definately made his sugars higher, but he went off of them over a month ago, and then the numbers became higher still, and we are checking back to see what else it could be. The 3 other meds that are anti rejection also raise blood sugars, but it seems like it could be something else, because he has been on those other 3 meds for almost a year. He is worried now because it could be one of the anti rejection signs they tell you to watch out for, so we are trying to work on the diet right now until we see the doctor Tuesday. We also have insulin questions that I can't find any answer for online either, so I had to write all that stuff down. It could be the insulin he uses is "too old", even though the date on the packs says it's ok till Feb. 2010. They sent us a whole bunch of it, but said to refill back in April already. dh kept on trying to finish each pen or insulin bottle first before starting a new one, but we just noticed recently that you have to throw away any container you opened up after 28 days, no matter how full it still is. So perhaps we are being to "frugal" with that stuff and it doesn't work well anymore.

Sunday's Smiling Specials
B: one zucchini, 3 mushrooms, onion flakes in PAM. 1/2 cup egg subs. 2 tblsp. reduced fat FETA crumbles on top.
black coffee
Snack: one plum, 30 calories
L: 2 WASA sourdough pieces spread with light laughing cow cheese, small piece of "unshaven turkey" and another small piece of "shaven" turkey sandwich. 2 H/B eggs. cut up ROMA tomato small
black coffee
Snack: 1/2 cup sugar free chocolate pudding you mix up by itself, a serving at a time. I like it so far.
D: 2 pieces leftover Talapia/salmon and large spinach salad
black coffee

Evening snack: several plums and s/f Suisse Mocha hot beverage

Loretta, on a diabetic board I go to, 3 members also have stopped using Niacin, with the blessings of their doctor.

Doris you really have you hands and head full since you are having to deal with all of those drugs, diabetes and so on. WOW. I remember DH's many drugs and some days we took one and then some other ones 3 days a week. It really becomes distressing because you want to keep it all straight. Hope you get some good answers from the doc on Tuesday.
Thanks for telling me about the niacin news from you diabetic board. I really think that is my culprit. I have never had a problem with my blood sugars before and have been taking the niacin for about 2 years now.

Monday's Munchies

  • 1/2 decaf black coffee, 4 cups all day
Brunch: lit and fit 3 carb yogurt
    12:30 diced cantaloupe
    4:00: sf jello w cream

    small amt applesauce
    1/2 ear sweet corn
2 cups mixed greens, fresh veggies, bacon bits, 2 T V&O drsg
    6 oz wine
Snack: mozzarella cheese grilled on lavash bread, CF diet soda
50 oz water

Loretta, how often do you test your sugars?? Do you have to keep a little booklet and show the doctor, or is it just for your own benefit? We have a thick Transplant/Diary Log book that I keep up each day, and that is where all the meds and stuff are written down. I have to start on the third one in 2 weeks in fact, so need to get another one tomorrow. If I didn't write stuff in there every day, we would be lost for sure.

Monday's Marvelous Menu
B: fresh zucchini, 3 mushrooms, onion flakes in PAM, 1/2 cup egg subs added. some grated parmasan on top

L: 2 WASA crisp breads, spread w/light laughing cow cheese, shaved turkey eaten OPEN FACED, lol. 2 H/B eggs. cut up Roma tomato
black coffee
Snack: one no sugar added ice cream bar, 80 calories
D: one burger patty and large spinach salad
coffee

Lora, glad to have you join in.

Tuesday's Trimming Things
  • 1/2 decaf black coffee, 6 cups all day
Brunch: 1 soft boiled egg, 1 small piece of polish sausage
    1:00: diced cantaloupe
    4:00: banana w 2 tbs bean-CO-peanut butter
    6:00: left over ham slice
    yellow squash
    butter nut squash
2 cups mixed greens, fresh veggies, bacon bits, 2 T lc poppyseed drsg
    6 oz wine
Snack: 6 brazil nuts, CF diet soda

Doris I don't check my blood sugars. I get blood work done about every 6 months at my doctor's office. Lately she has been doing the A1c or is that Ac1 test, can't remember. I thought about buying a glucose meter but when I saw the price of the testing strips, I thought twice. If the doc orders it I can probably get a insurance coverage for it.

Wow! Doris...what a terrific "treat day" you had. You sure do enough running around to work that off. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed it all.
I will be eating a little off plan while on vacation so I try to behave while I am still at home.

Sheila, Thanks for explaining Rosedale. I never really did explore other ways of eating. The lower carb way seems to work best for me along with some muscle exercises.
I really need to do more Ex. I may try to step it up more this Fall/Winter...it can be one of my goals. How big sq ft would you say that "giant house" that you cleaned was?

Just had my usual breakie and feeling full, hope to BBL with Wednesday's Wise-Wanderings.
