Roll Call: Thursday, May 15th

Good Morning. Today's date has me thinking about the relevance of time.
Last year on this date I went to the hospital (nothing serious).
In a way it seems like a distant memory - that happened last week.

I remember the date because it's my sister's birth date. She would have been
sixty today.

Love the kitten stories. Every time I see a kitten picture I think maybe .....?

Kris: - that is such wonderful wonderful news.
Doris: Does it look like your Lemon Zest is enjoying her new home?

Hi to all - and take time to smell the flowers.

“Our grief is incomparable,” said Li Ping, 39, eyes rimmed red, as he and his wife slowly, carefully pulled a pair of pink pajamas over the bruised, naked body of their 8-year-old daughter,
Ke. “We got married late, and had a child late. She is our only child.”

The earthquake that struck Sichuan Province on Monday has so far claimed 15,000 lives across
China, and thousands more people remain missing or trapped beneath rubble.

But the awful scene at this local morgue is a sad reminder that too many of the dead are children
in a country where most families are allowed to have only one.

I'm so overcome with feeling for the parents of these precious children.
It's a time for grief - and a time for counting my blessings.

Good Morning!

Time? Let's not even think about the warp speed of it all . . . except during my sixth period study hall when it (mysteriously) STANDS STILL

Enjoy memories of your sister today, Jezziemarezzie.

Kris, Great news on your mom!

Good luck with the meowsers, Gladys!
Everybody else!

We have a mild start up today. Helicopters have been roaring along all week spraying against gypsy moth. I hope it's enough this year.

Now it's off to launch myself into Thursday! Have a great one!

China?

Lin

My thoughts and prayers have been with all of those poor people. Most of their family gone. How tragic for all. The death tolls keep rising, there and in Myanamar. I saw on the news that the death toll for Myanamar is over 128,000. So hard to imagine that many dead and villages wiped out.
I wish to console them in some way. Enjoy all of those memories of your DS Jezzie.
Thanks Jezzie for the beautiful cardinal. Now is that a male or female. It seems to have the colors of both. Maybe it is a young male. Gladys what do you think?

Doris now you have me wanting some "Lemon zest" petunias also. I will be on the look out for them.

Kris how many radiation treatments will you mom have to have? Dh tolerated them pretty well for the most part. He did not get sick because of them.

Lin I just love your zest here: Now it's off to launch myself into Thursday!
I'll be right behind you.

Welcome back Patty. Good to see your post today.

Susun we have rain again today, cloudy damp, it almost feels like winter.
Glad I got the rest of my flowers planted.

Going in for an eye exam today. Don't expect much of a change, but she needs to check out my cataracts.

Have a great day. My best to the rest.

Good afternoon, everyone. It's a cloudy, cool day in BB,CT but a wonderful one, none the less.

Despite the barrage of drs appointments I'm trying to juggle, I have real hope that mom is going to come out of this little "glitch" just fine. I'm holding on to my positive thoughts and holding back the little nagging voice in the back of my brain that's telling me I've been optomistic before and wrong.

Jezzie: Wen's pictures are great. National Geographic quality IMO. I love the giraffs. Love their big eyes and long lashes. Wish I had those lashes! Mom and I were watching something on TV the other night and they showed giraffs. The average height is 13'. Our ceilings are 8'. I pointed out to mom that if we had a giraff in the room, it's head would almost reach the ceiling of the room over us. That's one TALL critter!

Susan: You're doing so great getting right back on plan. I'm afraid that a vacation would push me over the edge into carbland and I know what that does to my hard won losses.

Lin: That burnt sugar cake is a real bugger! I've an adequate baker, when my oven cooperates these days, but that burnt sugar cake totally escaped me. We ate it anyway, as I recall because it was for a birthday party and I didn't have time to regroup but I was so disappointed!

I have to ask you a question on the elephant ears. Which end do you plant up and how deep do you plant them in the pot? I found some at Wally and laughed right out loud with delight! When I was checking out, the poor guy at the registger didn't know what they were and I told him "elephant ear bulbs". I saw him enter "elephant ear balls" into his register. I didn't correct him and didn't even giggle until I was out of the store. People on the sidewalk probably thought I was crazy laughing all by myself to myself!

Gladys: I haven't tried bribing at my house but I'm sure going to give it a try! Sounds like a solid plan to me. Don't know why I hadn't thought of it before. Poor DH! He's in for it now.

Loretta: I know what you're talking about with insurance and forms and stuff. I have to get dad's car registgration turned in and haven't had the "standing" to do it until I was named executrix last week. The estsate will probably have to pay heavy fines for having an uninsured vehicle all of these months. Maybe I could cry a little. It wouldn't be hard.

Gladys: We have a dish for TV, too. It gives us a great picture and lots of channels but we also lose the signal in heavy rain and snow. We toss a coin in the winter to see who gets to wade through the snow to brush the darn thing off. We originally got the dish because cable wasn't available on our street but it is now and we're seriously considering going to one of those phone/tv/internet packages. I think it will save us quite a bit of $$ every month.

We have a momma kitty who lives in our barn. She had kittens last year and I loved seeing them playing and scampering in the yard. She'd bring them to the house and I'd feed them, although never made an attempt to tame them or touch them. I've seen momma and one of the kittens from last year around this spring. One of the kittens hurt her leg in the late fall last year and I haven't seen her. Momma kitty was also preggers this spring so I'm looking forward to more kittens to watch. Momma hasn't been around as much this year and has only "asked" for food once, so far. I think it's because I have the darling dog and she barks at the cats when she sees them. I also think she has a real home and just has too much of an independent spirit to stay put in one place all the time.

Mom is up and wanting breakfast, finally, so I'll continue later.

Patty since I'm all over this site you weren't ever missing to me.

Loretta: it is a female I think but brighter than I am used to seeing. She looks a little more
golden then our ladies. Ours are more the color this one is on the back of the head.

They are estimating 50,000 now for China. The experts did say years ago our weather would
start becoming more severe --- and disasters do seem to be happening closer together.

Doris: I envy you having fourteen deer. Ours seems to be maintaining between five and seven
since they built those houses in the woods. ... Jamie has a small herd visiting him.

I was dancing for about a half hour. Since the last time I did that it was 2005 I should
have stopped at ten minutes to start. So sore. lol

I went down to the next town earlier. I was going to stop for gas but all the pumps were tied up.
So I said OK I'll stop on the way home. The price went from $3.94 - $3.96 in forty-five minutes.
Not that it mattered. I only bought six gallons.

Doris where are the lemon zest petunias. Picture please. I am always missing something in my reading. Gosh.

Jezzie, yes it is so sad about China. I cant watch the news, it makes me very depressed. My prayers are with the families.

Patty!!! Hey there , glad to see you back.

Susan. Love your menus and I am going to start eating like you do. LOL.

Hi Kris. Love your kitty story. Sounds almost like mine, but mine stays around here even tho my sil who lives next door has two big dogs that eat cats for a living.

Loretta if its not a baby male its a female cardinal. I have fed birds since I was 15 and bought several books on North American birds. I love them.

Lin: time, tell me about it. The older I get the faster times goes. I am aghast at times when I think about its disappearing like it does.

Well our afternoon storm has passed. Off to crochet. Have a good one all.

Welcome back for another go-round Patty.

Those Petunias are doing well on the deck, and Sheila, they are the yellow flowers in my Avatar. They come in a yellow pot at Home Depot, they had a large display at their garden center. I have seen them advertised on television too. Strangely enough.

Lost track of time today, so many things to do, nothing taking hours or anything, but just diddly stuff. Then dh discovered he was low on test strips, and of course we just had his appt. on Tuesday, so we didn't give them the info to FAX to that mail order pharmacy thingee. Then I checked online, and they STILL never sent in the prescription for his Nexium either. Just the other insulin needles and needle heads. So called, just got an answering machine, so I had to keep the phone handy in case they called back. And so far, they still haven't..................This time I'm NOT surprised that they haven't called back, and I'll have to call back again tomorrow.

I love the birdie, I know we will never live where there are Cardinals of any kind though. But oh well, there are enough other kinds here. I bought yet another hummingbird feeder on Tuesday too.

dh saw on tv that Emmylou Harris was going to be at the Nugget in Reno on the 25th., so he says, "hey, why don't you check and get some reservations for us to go there and have some fun"!! Well, the tickets are $79 a person, the room is $139, and then there is the gas, dinner, other meals, etc., so the heck with it all. So we will stick to staying home and gardening

I gotta go, I'm beginning a sneezing attack from all the weeds and stuff out there.

We have Red and Blue Cardinals here where we live. Even though our winters are mild we have a lot of reds come and visit us...

Henry and I heard a Mocking Bird in our big tree by our upper deck the other day... I love to hear them...
