Did the bike for an hour. Worked in the yard, hand watering, planting, toting that barge and lifting that bale!!! No weights today, I think I did enough with carrying that water can thingee all over the place.
I'm done for the day friends. Still have more dishes to wash, didn't have time to finish this afternoon. It's warmer today, but still windy. See you all tomorrow. Doris |

Sheila, have you thought of doing just one mile on that walking thingee, and then doing the bike instead of beating yourself up?? You don't have to "suffer" for this you know................
lolI hope you enjoy your movie. I've got to go check on my "Lemon Zest" Petunias, I've put them in a container on the deck, where the Deer normally don't browse. They did come through the yard yesterday evening, 14 of them. Good Evening! Doris |

Doris all you need to get rid of those deer is one cajun.Deer don't have a chance here.Once we had a mother and baby in the pond area. One morning DH found the baby's legs, called wildlife and fisheries but they never even came by.Season or no season they get killed.
It finally stopped raining and tv is back on. bbl |

I did a half hour on the bike plus a 5 minute dvd upper body weights routine using 2 lb. weights. I am used to using 10 lb. weights so this was strange! I will go through my dvds to see if I have any other, longer weights workouts I can do that don't involve lower body stuff. Or I can continue to do the one I did today but do it a few times with a heavier weight.
Biking indoors is so different from on the road. In order for it to be a good workout, you have to keep a faster pace than outdoors. And you don't have the hills or wind to deal with. But they each have their own advantages so I'm glad I can do either one!

Doris that is a lot of deer. The most I have seen here is a family of 5.
Gladys, do you think some other critters got the deer? or was that the cajun? What is that? An Indian? Shelia listen to Doris's advice. Don't beat yourself up. Just take is easy but be steady about sticking with it. Jezzie, my grandkids have a game called WI or something like that but it gets them up and moving. I have not participated in it yet. They seem to have fun and exercise at the same time. Julie how are your knees doing? Do you still get on the recumbant bike? Got rained out at 2 miles this morning. Will ride the bike some. Exercise workout upper and lower body.

Hi Everyone! I'll be doing a half hour on the indoor bike later tonight. DH called and is on his way home and we have a few errands once he gets here. I suggested we finally use the restaurant gift card we got for Christmas tonight so we'll be going out for dinner!
I am still amazed that I feel so good and haven't had any problems so far. And how the heck do they get a body part out of such a little incision?! |

I walk on asphalt which is better than concrete. I haven't used the recumbent bike much lately since I started walking with my gf outdoors. I really enjoy the outdoors much better than being in an old stuffy house. This is working for me! Just leaving in a few minutes for my walk. It'll be another 35-40 min. since it's not looking like rain out there. I've heard of that WI and guess it's fantastic for keeping you exercising. But I heard it's expensive. Darn. I'd love to bowl with it.

Hi Gang
LOL I am ok. I like the watp. I did the mile and it wasnt nothing so thats why I increased to the two mile one. She also has a three mile but I will wait on that one. My indoor bike. Ha. I dont like it. I can do five min on it and my legs hurt so badly so I just gave that up for now. I do not know how you bikers do it. I really dont. I enjoy aerobics so much better and or walking. Tonight will be two mile watp again with stretching. And also I do use weights while doing this video. Two pound ones that come with the dvd. They are filled with water. and are round and hold easily. No strain on anything with this kind of weight. BBL ... |

Have you tried raising or lowering the seat on that indoor bike Sheila?? That can explain the leg pain, the seat could be too high for your height. Or too low.
I did 2 hrs on the bike, walked 1 mile, and did a mess of yard work again. We have alot of newer stuff coming up that needs to be watered and tended to, by me. I'm still not done with the pruning of winter dead stuff either. Oh well. Doris |

I've read that more people actually "use" a treadmill than any other piece if equipment.
( Especially if the 'others' are proper clothes hanging height. ) But the treadmill does cause more impact to the knees. I was so sure I would use my air glider. Until I realized you need serious muscle power in advance to make it go like they do on TV. All my feeble muscles could do was a little scissor kick. lol. So there it sits. Waiting for a dumpster. Yesterday I walked and danced. And I'm paying the price. . |

Good morning.
Doris: ya, I have the seat where it is suppose to go. Its an older model with three levels of intensity, but I dont have the book and I tried all three and no difference to me so I thinks it is not working, lol. I just pedal away. I see more results with the watp dvd in two weeks than I did when I was up to 15 min a day on the bike. I just cant do more than that. Maybe if I had a recumbrant type. Jezzie: I wish I had a treadmill. I do have a gazelle and could use that, but I sweat more with the watp dvd. Its almost like marching, or as she says walking in place. We do side moves, kick backs, knee lifts , marching , moving back and forth . then she incorporates arm movements and then arm movements (all this while marching) with two pound weights. I really see a difference in my leg tone. Have been doing for two weeks now. One week , did dvd 1 mile/ this wk. the two mile. Two mile takes 30 min. |

Jezzie our old friend BarbCo used to use her treadmill to hang clothes on.
Shelia that watp tape sounds like quite a workout to me. I have an old stationary bike also but the only thing that works on it is the wheel, so at least I can pedal. Walk/jog 3.23 miles. No workout today. |

Hi Everyone! DH and I went out for a careful but very nice bike ride at the park today. I won't be able to ride outdoors again for about a week so I'll have to stick with the indoor bike till then. I don't want to take any chances on the hills till I'll all healed and I can't lift the bike in and out of the truck at the park so I need someone to go with me.
I've got a really nice treadmill that I can't use anymore because of my knee. I'm going to have DH move it to the utility room in the basement so DS can use it. The ceiling is higher in there so he can stand up straight while he's on it. DH will use it, too, so it won't just sit there. I'm just mad that I got such a nice one and can't use it myself much. And, yes, I'm a biking fool! I love it! ![]() |

I did my bike 1 hr this AM, and the rest of the time was in the yard, lifting, bending, doing squats whether I wanted to or not. (Squats are more fun in the kitchen though). dh can't lift heavy stuff or shouldn't life heavy stuff, so if I want him not to do that, I have to go out there and move those planters and things around to where he decides he wants them to be. Then he did some weed eating out in the orchard. He did agree to wait with the mowing until next week when this darned heat wave is supposed to be finished with.
Yes, I love the bike, mine doesn't have speeds either anymore. Never bothered me though. But when I think back to 2004, I did 4 to 6 hrs of that a day!!!! But that was to get the darned weight off of me fast too. And I didn't walk then at all. My only exercise was that bike. dh and I were losing weight because of his diabetes and our son's wedding was coming up too in the summer. And the bike is a daily exercise that I know I will do every single day. Those tapes, even if I started out to do them, I would NOT do them till kingdom come, and that is the problem with stuff like that!!! To find something you can do and enjoy and still be doing in years to come, because we have to keep on doing this stuff. The same with the eating, have to keep up with the eating less, it doesn't matter which plan it is. If it's a struggle now to do that, what the heck will happen in the months and years to come??? I'm getting too old to try all these new fangled things, plus I can't afford it either. That's why I dance, I can't afford DVD's, new books featuring the latest plans, etc. Boring perhaps, but I guess I am comfortable being boring with myself. lol What are your thoughts on this??It's awful hot for here today, in the 90's and sort of humid too. Next door they are putting on a new roof and they quit by 2:30. Doris Last edited by mykneesareback : 05-16-2008 at 05:04 PM. |

Doris I am boring with my exercise routine also. I just love walking and have been at that for several years, maybe 20 or more. The bike is ok as long as I can read and ride. My Jane Fonda audio tape that I exercise to is also an oldie, from the 80s. I have several copies of the same tape in case on wears out.
I am hesitant to spend money on new ideas also. I might go to the library for some new cd. Some thing to think about. But I won't be making any purchases. |

I like to walk so guess I am boring too. I also like to dance. Thinking about Sweatin to the oldies to do on opposite days as my walking. I have one RS dvd but its not the one I liked. I use to have one and two and dont know where they went. Lost in my move I guess. Well the one I ordered is ok, its the 20th anniv. special. But its just not the same.
Did the WATP 2 mile just a few min. ago. Need a shower. LOL |

Tomorrow morning we have 3 German soccer games on in a row, beginning at 6:30AM, so we will be up at 6 so dh can take his blood sugars and stuff. I go on the bike first, than fix his breakfast, then go on again, then we take turns, lol. There is a horse race on in the afternoon I think, and boxing at night. So will have some stuff to watch together. But those games will keep me on the bike to get my time in. I think English games are on on Sunday.
Do you listen to those Jane Fonda tapes in your house Loretta?? While you lift weights or do other exercises?? ESPN2 used to have several good half hour exercise shows on each early morning, I liked those shows. Aerobics, walking and marching, women's weight lifting too. They don't do that anymore. PBS used to have an early AM aerobics show on too. Doris |

I think Cajun country, Amish country and areas of New Mexico are so interesting.
I love when cultures are maintained through the generations. I fear the new fascination with assimilation will have us all bored to tears someday. Sheila: I'm also a walker and a dancer. When I was a kid ( about 11) my girlfriends and I use to form a line, kick our legs up and sing: We are the chorus girls ... We wear our hair in curls. We wear our dungarees ... Way up above our knees. We never play with toys ... We just go out with boys. We are the chorus girls ... <louder> The chorus girls. ![]() Maybe I should write a song "We are the Walking-Dancing girls." ![]() |
