Less Makeup = Look Better?

I don't wear alot of make up as much as I love it, lol.
I use the typical foundation (on top of moisturizer and primer), blush, some eye shadows, liner, mascara....and of course my lipsticks.

Today I was in a hurry. I used my BB Cream and a little blush - of course my shadow base, liner and mascara.

I looked in the mirror this afternoon, and I thought - boy does my skin look good - and went back to this morning..................

Maybe all these years of good skin care have paid off and I have been trying too hard to get something I already had!!!

Has anyone ever found that they don't need everything they thought they needed to "make up" their face?

I would love to find that out about myself, but honestly, objectively speaking, my skin is not good enough to go with little to no makeup. I wish it was because then I would feel like I had more options and didn't have to sit there for 20 or more minutes to get my "face" on.

I love Philosophy's marketing of a "makeup optional skin"!! It's the dream!!

Christal; that is what I was thinking when I was looking at my face!
I love philosophy!

I am going to work today - I am going to try the same routine.
I will report in if it was just a fluke or today was good as well!

after a certain age it's really hard to have totally even coloring. I look a lot better with light foundation around my nose and under my eyes, thinned out to almost nothing on the rest of my face. it's an age thing... I am 59 and I didn't need to do this 20 years ago!

I bet your report today will good as well!

As an aside, they are having some of those giganto sizes of Philosophy products on QVC right now. My insomniac self watched some of it last night. They are expensive, but should last nearly a year!

So true. Even coloring is harder and harder to keep. I was just telling myself today that I MUST remember to put on some sunscreen before going out with my dog when I'm not wearing makeup. I am noticing more blotchiness/freckling/spottiness because of that little bit of sun exposure.

I have not even been wearing eye makeup other than brows & mascara. No foundation. Just a touch of bronzer & blush. And lipstick. I like the look.

Not a fan of Philosophy but they do have neat names for their products.

I wish!! I don't wear much but boy, if I go without mascara I feel different! Also, my upper lip looks a bit lighter so I've got to keep lip liner on hand too.

I love makeup too, and I have more than I can hope to use in 10 years! But I find that the older I get, the more I experiment with softening my look. I wore GOBS of makeup in my 20's...kind of rock n' roll/ punky, you know. lol. But now in my late 40's, I'm lucky to still have good skin. I love Bare Minerals and use it just barely enough to even out my skin tone, a teeny bit of a natural glow blush or bronzer, a lip stain to prevent the waxy lip look with a bit of clear gloss over it...and NO BLACK EYELINER (too hard looking now). Now I use a more flattering espresso color in a soft retractable pencil. I put it on and then smudge it a little with brown powder or mineral shadow and small pointed tip brush. I call this 'doe eyes'. Hehe. However, I don't have good eyelashes. Even with fiber/ volumizing mascara, they are just sort of straight and flat. I have no shame when it comes to using soft fluttery false eyelashes. All the actresses wear them, and they look all doe-y eyed. So why not us too?

Verdict: Less is more (unless you're 22). lol

PS. Lip stain is nice because it just feels like your own lips with nothing on them. I like Revlon's Just Bitten stains with the balm on the other end of the felt tip.

I totally agree with you August Moon and I guess that is what I am finding.
More make up and sometimes nothing at all, makes a woman look older I find.

I have to be careful with lip products as I have some fine lines now around my lips and hate that bleeding/feathering look. I will have to relook at the stains. I have been using those 24 hour (Maybelline) color products that you put on, they dry and then you use the gloss over.......my daughter (22) uses Just Bitten and I bought one and have one somewhere around here............

I hear you on the liner too - I have a couple creamy Tarte liners I do the same with.....I use a nice pink with a slight shimmer on my lids and brows and have a couple muted tones I use in the crease. I have a Shu Eumera eyelash curler and love it and that coupled with my Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara, makes my lashes look great.

I have toyed with using false lashes - like you said - alot of people use them now days.....I just feel so clumsy. Maybe I need to invest in a few pairs and experiment. Any tips?

With lashes, it just takes a bit of practice. I use a 10x magnifying mirror suction cupped onto another mirror with a stand so I can see the invisible lash band blend into the lash line. I put them on after some mascara first so they have more to stick to. When you apply the adhesive, let it kind of sit on for 30 seconds so it gets a bit tacky enough to stick. I usually need to push the base a little more into the lash line with a blunt tip tweezer. They look awesome when they are done. I'll bet there are tips and tutorials on You Tube as well. Also, sometimes I use long individuals with regular lash adhesive and not the Lash Tite. They look like fancy eyelash extentions.

Call a Mary Kay consultant ladies. I am 46 and I can promise you I have even skin tone, no feathering of the lips and their new lash products are a lot less than Latisse but since I have thin lashes I love it. They are getting thicker. I look younger now than I did at 38. Not to say I don't have a few wrinkles but I do know how to make them less noticeable.
My kids use Mary Kay also. They have a great all natural line and acne treatment line that works.
Just saying I may be chunky but I love my make-up and skin care. I have used all the products you ladies are talking about. They are good but they never came to my home and made sure I was using the correct colors , products and I can't call them when I am out or have a make-up emergency at 8:45 pm on Sunday.

What a funny timed post for me to see. I was in a hurry this morning and just put on " Avon mineral glow powder" shadow , lip gloss and mascara. I thought my skin looked good in the rear view mirror!

Cindy I use the Time wise Miracle set, microderm brasion, SerumC,(Ask your friend why they call this one product face lift in a bottle) , the lip primer, satin lips, Targeted Action Eye Revitalizer , Firming eye cream. Plus all my color cosmetics are from Mary Kay. I love all of them.
Your best bet is to call your friends friend and have a facial, that way you can try the products ,get her recommendations , find out what you like and book a party so you can earn as much of it for free as you can.

Megan - I would do that, but don't want to be obligated to buy from her OR feel like I have to buy something - and she is actually a friend of my DD. I actually used to use MK back when my girls were little and loved the stuff!

Funny, I have my BE in my makeup bag and it has been in the powder room, so when i was rushing to get ready one day all I had in my bathroom was my Bisque concealer, so i used a big fluffy brush that I usually only use for mineral veil but I dipped it in the Bisque and poofed that all over my face in a thin layer (and I mean Poofed, it flew everywhere LOL) and it was perfect. matched my skin color and covered the redness on my cheeks really well, better than my usual 'fairly meduim' color and it doesn't have the 'shimmer'.
I used about 1/2 the makeup I would usually put on to go out (if I stay home I almost never wear make up.)

First you should never feel obligated to buy and second I bet DD's friend would be thrilled just to get the chance to let you try the products and get your opinion.
I didn't buy from my consultant till the 3rd time getting with her and never once did she make feel obligated or pressured. If she does, she is not a good consultant.
