GOOD nail polish top coat?

I need some names. I painted my nails yesterday and used Finger Paints top coat. This morning while trying to dig some CO out of the bottle, half the polish on one of my fingers came off! Luckily this bottle of CO is used only for my body and not to consume! It seems like my polish peels off way to fast/easily. I am wondering if what I have is too old? I got it aprox a year ago and dont remember this happening then.

I like Out The Door. Sally Beauty carries it.

I like Seche Vite. CVS has it and Sally's too. I'd pick up a bottle of nail polish thinner as well as the Seche Vite thickens up over time - but that top coat is hard to beat.

Out The Door is the best I have ever used. I don't paint my fingernails but I have never had a chip on my toes since I started using Out The Door. I do my toes about every week and a bottle lasts me a long time.

I love Out the Door too. But, it seems my toe nails never chip even when I don't use a top coat. But on my fingernails, I can get a week to 10 days when I do them. I will put a coat of clear/topcoat every other night and it helps to seal them.

First, I grabbed the Out the Door today. I asked about the polish just peeling off my nails. She said it was because I put the China Glaze Prismatic on top of another color. She claims it is too thick for that and is to be worn alone. Well I didn't put it on thick! Will try again tomorrow with the new top coat!

You can always try that Seche Vite I suggested before. It's at Ulta and many other places. It is on the In Style magazine's Best beauty Buys Hall of Fame 2012.

DISREGARD - I READ YOUR COMMENT INCORRECTLY...

Nail polish STILL peeling off!!!UGH!!!!

Is it possible I have way too much oil in my nails right now? I once tried to get acryllics and by the time she was done with my second hand, the first was peeling off! She said I had a lot of natural oil in my nails.

Wash your hands thoroughly before applying the polish and clean your nails with nail polish remover (even if you have no polish on).
Do you apply a base coat??

I actually do both before doing my nail and yes, I always use a base coat because I am afraid of staining my nails.

I'm just an odd ball that's all!

Hmmm...after washing your hands & using nail polish remover, you may want to try using a nail buffer and then taking a small amount of witch hazel on a cotton ball & wiping your nails with it. App;y a thin coat of base coat. Apply 2-3 thin coats of polish, Apply your top coat.
Hope this helps

I'm not sure what to say

When I do my nails, crazy as it sounds, I do them in 2 days. I file, buff, use polish remover...then...I use base coat (I like China Glaze Strong Adhesion base coat)...then...I apply 1 thin coat nail polish (I use different brands..Milani, China Glaze, Revlon, OPI, Rimmel, Sally Hansen)...I allow it to dry thoroughly...then apply a 2nd coat of polish and allow that to dry. I don't apply my top coat (Out The Door) until the next morning and use 1 coat. I've never had an issue with it chipping immediately. It will usually last 3 to 4 days depending on the polish. I've even used cheap Wet n Wild polishes and never had a problem.

This has got me stumped

Have you tried using a bonder? Orly has a good one you can get at Sallys. I get a week out of my manicure if I apply the bonder first.

Is this available at drug stores or other beauty supply stores? I don't have a Sally's nearby.

You can help your polish stay on tons better by switching to a sticky base coat. I have nails that will not hold polish for anything, but when I use Creative Nail Design 'Stickey' Base Coat. My polish stays on my entire work week. If you can't get CND Stickey, you can get (at Sally's) Nail Life Nail Gripper Base Coat.

Both are a clear green polish that never quite 'dries'. It's like a double sided tape. So the base coat adheres to the nail, and the polish adheres to the base coat. It's stuck on and hugged down. Your polish color will dry just fine. Top Coat will finish it off to make it look nice and shiny (I prefer OPI Rapid Dri Top Coat).

Really...try switching up the base coat.

Have you thought about a different brand of polish, also? Maybe there is something in the formula for China Glaze that isn't meshing with your system?

I never heard of sticky base coats before. It does sound like it would work.

I am looking for a good base & top coat that will prevent chipping. I have avoided putting polish on my fingernails for years because they chip so quickly & I don't want to spend that much time maintaining them.

I posted it somewhere in this thread. Look for Orly Bonder at Sally's. It's a sticky base coat and your polish will adhere to it beautifully. I get a week out of my manicure

Will have to look for the bonders or sticky base coats.

Right now I have glue on nails on because I went to a wedding last Sat. and didn't want horrid looking nails! Just waiting for them to start popping off!

Believe it or not ,Mary Kay has the best top coat I've used. I use their colors too. They tend to last better than the ones at the salon uses and I am rough on my hands and feet.
