Actually MAC Propan refills only run about about $11.50 a piece. I built my own MAC palettes but it took a few years. I have a pretty good collection going but I'm starting to get curious about Laura Mercier. I love Bobbi Brown too, but her eyeshadows do not show up on me at all. Her blushes are the same way.

Also Kohls has a pretty inexpensive pallete that has 28-30 shades... I like that alot too!

Right, so to fill a 15-pan-pallet would be $172.50 plus the cost of the pallet itself.

The Naked pallets are about $50 for 12 colors so only around $4 per shadow and I believe they're the same size.

Also, for a lot of great neutral and wearable looks, check out MakeupbyTiffanyd on youtube. Even her more colorful looks arel VERY wearable and usually daytime appropriate. I didn't get really into makeup until a year or two ago, and I learned almost everything from Tiffany!

Well, I have always been a MAC girl, but this thread has made me feel like I Need to have Urban Decay neutrals. Thanks ladies!

Is UD a Walgreens/Target type brand or a counter brand?

I think it's only at Sephora and Ulta. I've never seen a counter at a department store and they're not a drugstore brand.

Ohh thanks for posting this! My DS works at Khols and gets some mean discounts. Wish I had known last weekend - everything in the store was 50-60% off plus he got an instant 35% off and then had a 20% off coupon. Could have got some more eyeshadows for a steal! Maybe next time...

I only use LM eye shadows, and the reason is that I can find non-glitter, deeply pigmented colors in her shadows. I have deep set eyes and am getting some hooded eyes as I age, so these have worked out for me. I'd love it if you could get them in a palette, but not as far as the last time I went to Sephora.

Really like the look of those UD Naked palettes, but too bad half of the picks have glitter in them. I loved my glitter back in the day but now it just falls into the lines.

Tell me about it! That's why it took a few years to build up the palettes I wanted. I have 5 15 pan pallet palletes made up right now. I actually am curious about the Naked or Naked 2. I would say those would be perfect for those that are primarily into Neutrals. I love Neutrals but also wear purples, greens, blues, greys, gold etc.

What are some of the LM shadows that you wear? I'm familiar with her foundations powders and tinted moisturizers but not eyeshadows.

Someday I want to start collecting MAC shadows, just because... but then I think - I shouldn't pay that much for neutrals because I can get them cheaper using UD. But, I don't want to pay that much for brights because I don't wear them as often. I may be too cheap to ever spring for it!

I did splurge on a MAC Paint Pot though which I love! (Rubenesque) Then, literally 2 days after I bought it the beauty world started blowing up about the Maybelline Color Tattoos and how they were a perfect dupe. Luckily, the color I bought is unique and none of the color tattoos match it. So, I can justify it to myself that way, lol.

Finding non-glittery ones is a real challenge.

UD does have some matte shadows. I got a few from their site on sale for just a few dollars.

I have not tried LM but I will check out her site.

I am learning so much because of this thread!! Thanks for posting.. I would love LOVE to get some Mac makeup but dang.. so expensive. My neice is going to Beauty school and is getting a degree because she wants to work for Mac.. They have to be well schooled to work there.. When she does I may see if she can give her old auntie cheri a discount.

I do have a Urban Decay primer potion already although I can't find it.. I have been watching a lot of different reviews on youtube and there is this guy who is a makeup artist that does reviews and shows why the eyeshadows are good or bad.. Its mostly the pigmentation ... I am going to be getting my NYX pallets. You can get some on ebay for about 9.00 and they have 10 colors. He showed the colors on his fingers and hands and they look like they would last a lot. There are a couple mac sets I want to get as well. So hopefully I will be getting some new ones soon.. I did order a 88 Coastal Scents original palette. And then a smaller pallet that was called Go Palette Paris. It has some really great shimmery Neutral colors (12) .. We will see how I like that one. They were having a great sale and I got 30 percent off.. bought 2 pallets for under 30 bucks.. Not bad.

Here is what I picked up:

88 orignal palette:

Go Palette Paris:

I have another question for you all as well..

What are the best brushes to get?? I know Mac is one of the best but until I could afford something like that are there any decent brushes out there for a fairly good price? Brushes that don't shed or fall apart? Any help would be terrific!!

Thanks again!!!

I think Ecotools makes some nice brushes. I find them at CVS and Walgreen's ~ I haven't looked but maybe Rite Aid and Walmart have them too.

Real Techniques my Samantha Chapman. I've only played with them at the store but they get good reviews and are super soft. Sam and her sister are makeup artists from the UK and they have a popular YT channel (pixiwoo). Ulta carries them. Otherwise, I just have cheapy brushes from Target, Sally's and ELF. I also have a couple of craft brushes from Michael's. If you google MAC paint brush dupes there are lists of artist brushes that are dupes for many popular MAC brushes.

I am fair with really dark hair and eyes, so I like a light powder all over and a dark powder at the lash lines.

Light: Cashmere, Sesame
Dark: Plum Smoke, Deep Night, Coffee Ground

I like Fresco, but they have been out of it every time I go to Sephora. I also see that online there is an eye/cheek palette, but of the six eye shadows only two are matte, so not for me.

I had a LM concealer but didn't love the feel and tossed it. Her foundation etc. has mixed reviews but I'm feeling like my skin has changed enough to look into it since my drugstore stuff isn't doing it anymore. I've been really happy with the eye shadows though, and highly recommend the matte for pigment without glitter.

Okay, maybe an exaggeration but it's seriously amazing, Naked and Naked II.
Why did I not see this thread?
I am a make-up hoarder/wh*re.....whatever you want to call me.....

I LOVE Wet and Wild shadows - they are SO pigmented for a drugstore brand and have I multiples of their palettes.

DD24 swears by the Naked Palette - I would love to try it, but don't want alot of shimmery shadows. I prefer Matte.

I ordered an 88 palette from BH cosmetics and was not pleased - so I hope you like it Cheri - I find the Wet and Wild shadows to me much more pigmented. I was very disappointed at how much you need to use to get any real color.

For brushes - I love the EcoTools as well - VERY reasonable and wear very well! ETA: And they hold up very well when you wash them - I have had brushes that once you wash them, they fall apart!

Wet n Wild eyeshadows. Very pigmented and very inexpensive.
As for brushes, you can't beat Ecotools.

I second the comment about a good eyeshadow primer. Love Urban Decay's primer.

I loved MAC until they started doing release after release. Then it turned into overkill. Thankfully I bought back ups of all my fave LE shades. Plus I own over 300 jars of MAC pigments so I can mix up whatever color I can think of. Outlets are wonderful places

Most of my brushes are MAC (outlet bought or the smaller sets they release) but I do like the brushes from ELF as well. Black handles, not the white.

Another vote for both of the UD Naked palettes! I use them every single day, and they both still look brand new!

Ooh, I just bought the best palette ever...Stila "In the Light " palette, $38 at Sephora, think there are 10-12 shades and an awesome eyeliner in neutral tones, but some have some sparkle.

I am seriously considering the Urban Decay Naked pallet now lol but this is the one I ordered almost 2 years ago.. colors are amazing.. and while I don't wear the bright ones as eye shadows I do accent my eyes with them, over my normal liner, it softens the look.. also its GREAT for halloween makeup too!

Kristy - I have those palettes - shimmer and matte - and was very disappointed. Mine were not pigmented at all. I found my Wet and Wild palette's to be much more so.

Weird, mine were highly pigmented and wear all day! and if I wear a shadow with NYX eye primer they last forever lol
