Keratosis Pilaris (Red bumps on arms)

I have read that keratosis pilaris is caused by excess keratin, and that excess keratin is caused by excess testosterone, and that excess testosterone is caused by eating too many carbs. In other words, too many carbs = keratosis pilaris, those ugly red bumps on the arms.

Anyone on the forums notice if their red bumps go away when they are low carbing?

Hi Seeking

I suffered with this condition during my late 20's and early 30's. I saw a doctor who prescribed a very expensive skin cream. It helped some, but I honestly couldn't afford to keep getting it. I remember being ashamed to wear sleeveless shirts cause my arms looked so bad. It faded away slowly, but it was a good couple of years before it did. I didn't low carb until my 40's, so I can't answer your question, but I hope LC helps you!

I've had it all my life. Haven't noticed any difference with LC. Plain old lotion and a sugar scrub help a bit.

I use Amlactin 12% lactic acid lotion. Seems to help. I've never noticed a diet related difference.

Huh. That's very interesting and thank for the information. I would love to know what causes this.

I've had this for as long as I can remember - since I was a child. What helps for me is exfoliation, moisturizing creme, and exposure to sunlight. Mine always gets better (not gone, but significantly improved) during the summer months.

I had KP as far back into childhood as I can recall. LC/HC/BC/no BC nothing changes it.

I had it on my upper arms and thighs my whole life. When I went LC in 2011 it went away. Even though I can't really say I'm low carb now, the bumps never came back.

Had them until my diabetes was controlled. I also used pro-activ when I had them, and it helped.
I also had roseacea and (scalp) hair loss until the diabetes was controlled!
