The only thing that helped me was an old anti-ulcer drug called Misoprostol.
It increases the mucus lining so that the bladder could try to heal itself.
I only take it now when I feel discomfort again. It can cause miscarriage, but I am
beyond childbearing years.
Tomato sauce bothers me the most or way too much caffeine.

I have a friend who has suffered with IC for years and years before it was diagnosed. She has finally found help through this doctor:

ICAMA | Interstitial Cystitis Alternative Medicine Association

My friend has that and it is really hard to go out to eat with her. She has so many things she can't eat. She also has to often ask them to cook her item in a separate pan rather than on the grill that can have cross-contamination. She can't have pepper and some many things are automatically salted and peppered before cooking. She slowly adds foods in to her diet to see if they bother her - I remembered her doing that with some varieties of cheese. I'm not sure if her doctor gave her a list of foods to be careful of, or she just figured it out by trial and error.

I have had IC for 12 years. A LC diet helps immensely. If I eat carbage I start hurting and burning. I was off meds for several years but discovered I do better on the meds. I don't take them as often as prescribed because I don't need to. I take at night: Elmiron, neurontin, and hydroxizine. I still have flare ups in the spring and summer usually.
