Activated charcoal?
I've recently been reading about the miraculous teeth whitening effect of activated charcoal, anyone here tried it? Just before I take the plunge and buy some :D

I never heard about it being good for teeth whitening, but it's great for intestinal discomfort and gas. It absorbs gas bubbles and neutralizes odors. Sorry, I guess I'm no help.

Be cautious using activated charcoal:

Major Interaction Do not take this combination

Syrup of ipecac interacts with ACTIVATED CHARCOAL

Activated charcoal can bind up syrup of ipecac in the stomach. This decreases the effectiveness of syrup of ipecac.

Moderate Interaction Be cautious with this combination

Alcohol interacts with ACTIVATED CHARCOAL

Activated charcoal is sometimes used to prevent poisons from being absorbed into the body. Taking alcohol with activated charcoal might decrease how well activated charcoal works to prevent poison absorption.
Medications taken by mouth (Oral drugs) interacts with ACTIVATED CHARCOAL

Activated charcoal absorbs substances in the stomach and intestines. Taking activated charcoal along with medications taken by mouth can decrease how much medicine your body absorbs, and decrease the effectiveness of your medication. To prevent this interaction, take activated charcoal at least one hour after medications you take by mouth.

Thanks for that information, Dottie. I've been taking charcoal capsules for many years to help with intestinal distress....I didn't know about its effect on other meds, although I do seem to recall reading it on the bottle. But back then I wasn't taking any meds so I didn't really pay much attention.

Yeah, it's used in hospitals for overdoses, if ingested it binds the alcohol/drugs/poison etc. it's good stuff.

But you still don't have an answer to your original question :-(.

No, I guess not  but I might give it a go, a few capsules of the stuff aren't expensive and I've got nothing to lose! I'll report results when I have some :D

Good luck with it....I'd be interested in knowing your results.
