Miralax - how long before it works?

:o I've been having problems for about a week. I tried upping my magnesium, but that didn't do any good. I tried Dulcolax - nothing. Last night I took Miralax - still nothing today. The cramping and bloating are driving me crazy! For those of you who have taken Miralax - how long did it take before it worked?

Unless you take more than the bottle suggests it can take a few days...you can take more, we use miralax as a clean out for barium enemas...it is expensive however...it is suggested to take a small bottle8.3 0z and mix it with sf gatorade 64 oz... mix Gatorade and the entire package of Miralax. Shake until dissolved. Start drinking 8 oz. of the mix every 10 minutes until it is gone. If you’re nauseous you can drink the mix more slowly. Some people find that walking around relieves the nausea.
You will begin having diarrhea usually within 1-2 hours.
That being said you can buy a bottle of mag citrate liquid at pharmacy for less than 2 bucks...down the 12 ounce botle and get relief over night...you can use mag citrate caps also just use the dosage on mag citrate bottle. Stay near a bathroom because unless impacted you will go and go a lot within a few hours and into the next day.
After you get cleaned out take preventative measures to not let this happen again.
I have to take miralax daily as I have had problems since childhood. Low carb high fat has helped but occasionally due to work etc I get into trouble...good luck going.

I also say stick close to the bathroom when all of this kicks in!

If you're already constipated, a good laxative is better than relying on Miralax. My gastro recommended Miralax as a preventative measure to alleviate my chronic constipation. Taken once daily, it can keep me regular, but if I stop using it and become truly constipated, it doesn't help much. I need a laxative first.

An enema could be a good solution if it is really that bad.

If this does not - ahem - pass soon, please consider seeing your doctor.

I had problems last fall. Turned out it was a hernia that required surgery.
