TMI but I am so stopped up....

When you are constipated, what do you do for the fastest relief?

Last night I took Senokot. This morning I have had strong coffee. Right now I'm drinking some Espresso with Coconut Oil in it.

If this coffee doesn't work I think I'm going to try drinking some pickle juice.

Any other ideas?

Raw peeled cucumbers, pure vitamin C, and lots of water seem to help me.

shelby'snana 01-13-2013 11:06 AM

Celery is my magic "bullet" !! Wish I had known years ago, I can eat a rib of celery and the next morning have my coffee and great results . .... you might try doing both together ??

Mimosa23 01-13-2013 11:14 AM

Magnesium and lots of fat and water do the trick for me... That said, I am practically never blocked up.... Good luck!

beautifulme 01-13-2013 11:22 AM

Spinach at night, then coffee in the morning...

Rhubarb 01-13-2013 11:47 AM

Magnesium plus fiber works for me.

Janknitz 01-13-2013 01:46 PM

Coconut oil. Psyllium husk capsules.

LowCarbPanda86 01-13-2013 02:36 PM

I second spinach...w/ butter. If that doesn't work Miralax.

leeloo 01-13-2013 03:13 PM

I noticed on another thread that you might be on some psych meds - those can cause some serious constipation issues for some LC-ers. I remember a super-long thread from awhile back when it eventually turned out the person's problem was related to her meds.

It's not exactly "natural", but Miralax can be effective to keep you regular, especially if meds are causing the problems. I think it's better to take the meds and keep on lowcarbing, even if you have to take Miralax, too.

Psyllium husk capsules

lterry913 01-13-2013 04:34 PM

Miralax and probiotics work for me along with coconut oil.
If these don't work then liquid magnesium citrate...the whole bottle... and you should go within 8 hours and you will probably keep going for the day. It can be found at the pharmacy and is inexpensive and usually fruit flavored and fizzy.
I can get stopped up to the point of being impacted, so I know where you are coming from...mag citrate always works but is my last resort because you have to stay home for a while after taking it...it make you have to go with urgency.

Yikes! Mag citrate (the whole bottle) is what I was given to prep before colon surgery! It will clean.you.out. With a quickness! :stars:

It is a deep bummer to get constipated to the point that you have to resort to such drastic measures . :hugs:

Throwback 01-13-2013 05:14 PM

Good ol' milk of magnesia (MOM) does the trick-if you do mag citrate don't drink it all in one sitting unless you have nothing else to do the next 24 hours...

spoiltmomof2 01-13-2013 05:33 PM

Okay, I took Senokot last night. This morning I had a ton of coffee, including 4 cups of espresso, then I ate a lemon(they normally tear my stomach up) then I got super desperate and downed 20 0z of prune juice. I still have no relief:( I also added some coconut oil to my coffee this morning.

My belly hates me sometimes.

muncheechee 01-13-2013 07:06 PM

Try drinking some hwc or use it in a cream sauce with your meal. Hope you get relief soon.

I don't know if it's the same size bottle...I use the 12 ounce bottle ...and yes it will clean you out...with urgency...but if you have ever been constipated to the point of being impacted you will do what it takes to avoid it...I have had issues since childhood and have found a lot of relief with low carb...but there are still occasions where if I don't go mag citrate always works and works fast.

At this point I'd definitely suggest Miralax.

luvmybabyhead 01-15-2013 06:45 AM

Probiotics saved my butt!

(Pun intended.)

ceecee08 01-15-2013 06:59 AM

Magnesium!!!!! The best thing with this WOE!!! I take a supplement everyday.

janetsbreeze 01-15-2013 07:05 AM

Magnesium saves the day!
Build up your dosage over several days ... you will know when you hit the right dose for you. Mine's 1000mg.

PenPen13 01-15-2013 07:27 AM

Actually if you don't go soon maybe you should try something from the other end. Sometimes (without getting to gross) you are blocked and everything you take by mouth is coming in behind it. Maybe a fleets enema might get things moving. All the other suggestions are great ones but on a daily basis. You need to get what is there moving. :console:
Sorry - it is one of the most miserable feelings.
ACV is another suggestion. Good Luck

Agree with this...was hoping the op could avoid but maybe not.

Russel Stovers sugar free candy! Eat 3 or 4 pieces and within an hour your stomach will be rumbling. Take my advice and hold on to the sides of the toilet when you go or else you may blast off into space!

Well she said TMI didn't she? :dunno:

coffeelover 01-18-2013 01:38 PM

Ducolax or Miralax. Either will definately clean you out.

Emmaline 01-19-2013 07:11 AM

Magnesium...hands down. We are all deficient!

If you want relief in 30 minute or less, get suppositories. Otherwise magnesium oxide, colace or miralax are good, gentle options. I hear people rave about miralax but I got super gassy and a little crampy with it but I'm one of those precious snowflakes that manages to have the weirdest or most paradoxical reactions to things nobody else seems to have (ask me how Valium creates panic attacks!). Magnesium and colace together are my super duty laxatives if I get nothing in 8 hours, I start doing milk of magnesia shots every two hour until I get results. I abhor stimulant laxatives.

Mistizoom 01-20-2013 06:05 PM

For slow/gentle relief I use docusate sodium (generic of Colace), a stool softener. Usually one 100 mg pill is enough for me, works by the next day. Very safe as it's not a stimulant, just drink plenty of water. Psyllium husk powder also works well, if I eat a low carb roll made with about a tablespoon of it it helps a lot.

Okira 01-21-2013 04:20 AM

I use Natural Calm which is a magnesium/calcium powder that you mix with water. One cup and you'll be going. That's a guarantee!!
