Low Carb and Inflammation?
Hope you all do not think I 'am crazy. I have been reading so much on anti-inflammatory foods. Does anyone know if eating the low carb way causes so much inflammation? Thanks, susan |

I was sick and sore all over with high levels of inflammation. After a lot of experimentation cutting out tomatoes, potatoes and peppers, wheat and other grains I finally found that egg yolks were the culprit.
When I was eating very low carb diet I was using up to 18 eggs a week. My overall health improved a lot after I made this discovery. Of course we are all different so you need to work through this yourself. Maybe keeping a diary might help. I don't think Low Carb eating causes the inflammation except as in my case I was eating so many eggs which itself caused the inflammation. Good luck with finding your cause because it is well worth the effort. |

Gluten grains caused mine, and dairy. Keeping a food diary is a great idea, and you may want to start with a couple of very simple foods for a few days to help eliminate the culprit(s). There is something called the GAPS diet that is for this purpose. It's very strict, and I never had to use it myself, but nice to know I have the option if I need to.
There is not always agreement on what foods generally cause inflammation. Veggies mostly aren't considered inflammatory, but some can be for some people, especially with arthritis.

Try an elimination diet. We all react to foods differently so it would be best to do that and find out what specifically YOU are intolerant to.

I wish so bad I could figure this out for myself. Even after six months of being strict on a LC diet, my cardiac inflammation markers are still through the roof. I am so lost as to what to do to get it down

Art Ayers has a very interesting blog called "cooling inflammation". He is a biomedical researcher. Maybe he has some information on his blog that can help you.

You need to do a strict elimination diet to find out what YOUR food triggers are. My food trigger for inflammation is MILK. I can eat cheese and other dairy products but NEVER Milk.
We are all different but the first thing you should do when dealing with inflammation is an elimination diet. It could be nuts, it could be eggs, it could be anything! I spent a year trying to get allergists and my rheumatologist and GP to get me the testing for food allergies and they all brushed me off. I was right and I am now off meds just by finding out what foods I couldn't tolerate. |

The most common inflammatory foods I see on the board are the bad fats - processed oils. Mayo, salad dressings, margarine, etc.
Please google inflammatory oils and you will see what I mean. Salad dressings with olive oil are better I have given up mayo because it is too hard to make and doesn't keep. Butter, avocado, coconut oil are better. Butter and coconut oil are best for cooking to avoid oxidation. Olive oil better for salads and cool dishes. I hope this helps! |

How are your Omega 3 levels? If there is an imbalance of Omega 3 to Omega 6's that can set up an inflammatory response.
How too much omega-6 and not enough omega-3 is making us sick |
