Are you drinking plenty of water? Ketosis is naturally diuretic, so it will dehydrate you quickly if you're not careful. Plenty of water (to thirst) and broth is a good thing. Also, the time of year could be impacting you, too, as climates like mine are now dry and cold, and it could be exacerbating what the diet is producing in terms of fluid flushing.

I am thirsty non-stop also. I have to remember to drink enough water, but I think it's just my body adjusting to the new WOE.

One of the signs of diabetes is insatiable thirst. If you think that might be a problem (I pray it is not) please get tested as soon as possible!

The main symptom of my diabetes (in hindsight) was insatiable thirst. Please get your blood sugar checked if you're thirsty all the time. I had the dry lips, too.

By the way RiteAid has a throw away glucose meter with 10 strips for about $10 if
anyone just needs a quick blood sugar check.

Since this last week, I have been very thirsty all the time. I drink around a gallon of water everyday. My blood pressure med has a diuretic but I am not going to the bathroom as much as the two prior weeks. I am definitely in Ketosis as I started losing weight. Is this a side effect of Ketosis? If so, how long in average this side effect (together with the stinky pee) will go away? Any advice to ease the thirst besides the obvious water intake?
Thank you all

I've been very thirsty, too. I need to be more disciplined about drinking lots of water. Focused on that today. I have also been consuming extra salt, hoping to relieve leg cramping, and I think the extra salt is causing the extra thirst. I hope I can bring things into balance soon.

Ketosis can be dehydrating for some people. If your urine is "stinky" because its too concentrated, drinking more water will dilute it out and the odor will be less strong. However there are about 15% of the population can smell ketones - they smell like acetone. Since urine is one of the main elimination pathways for ketones, and if you're lucky enough to be one of the ones who can smell them, the odor will go away when you're not ketotic anymore. Or if you, again, drink loads of water and dilute out your urine to the point where the ketone load is very light.

if your urine smells like fruit loops though, go to the doctor immediately.
