In addition to keeping a really clean food plan, I have found the following supplements helpful: myo-inositol, magnesium, and taurine. Also, limiting exposure to EMFs, such as television, video/DVDs, computers, cell phones, etc.

I don't know if this was mentioned before, but there's aspartame in almost anything sugar free. If he chews gum have him check the labels. Even a stick of gum can trigger a migraine.

Thanks lynnport - he is completely off the diet drinks and he does not chew gum or eat anything else sugar free. I recognized the aspartame problem right away & he was a beast about getting off the diet cokes etc - but now he has settled down and is off them. Once in a while he will ask if he can have a diet drink and of course the answer is always no!

He is definitely doing better (knock on wood) - I think the muscle relaxers are helping. He is not taking the dosage the doctor wanted him to take - 3 -4mg per day (12mg) of the tsanidine - which is still really low, but with all the other meds he takes I am afraid he will be too sedated. I am giving him 1/2 of a 4 mg in the morning and then the whole one at night. This weekend I will try upping it to 1 whole one in the morning and 1 whole one at night and see how he does.

Update:

He is now averaging 1 migraine per week - which is amazing. It has to be due to the muscle relaxer he takes and I have not increased them, he is still only taking 1 at night. I am definitely going to increase it to 1/2 in the morning this week. He was having 3-4 migraines per week and many that lasted 4-5 days and ended in a trip to the ER. So far, knock on wood, he has only had 1 that lasted more than 24 hrs and it was only for a day and a half. He is still off the diet drinks - no AS at all of any kind - of course he is drinking too many regular soft drinks, but we'll get to cleaning that up later. He is eating less bread/wheat but still eating it - this is something we are still working on! He goes to the neurologist on the 24th of August but so far so good.

Thought I would post our progress and thank everyone for their suggestions!

Thanks for doing so Debbi. I just came here to see if there was an update. I'm glad to hear that he's doing so much better.
