High BP at Dr... :

Went to the Doctor, of course he says 'you need to lose more weight'... well duh *slap back of head*.

He asked me 'Why is your blood pressure so high Brad?' well.. that's why your the Dr. and I'm the patient... but anyway....

Only thing I can relate it to is stress... I know I'm over weight and that probably contributes to a lot of it.. but my resting heart rate at home is in the high 60's (65-70ish)...

I'm able to run / walk exercise without feeling like I am going to die... I mean after a good 3 mile or so walk / run I'm tired but nothing that I don't associate with just being over weight...

I just looked at him and told him Doc.. I think I'm just stressed out. I've got deadlines at work (stressful projects w/ deadlines), my wife is pregnant, I've got a retinal degenerative eye disease that I'm slowly going blind with (no cure), I'm selling a house, buying a house.... I mean it's just crazy... plus I always get 'white coat syndrome'... one doctor when I was 18-19 years old took my bp it was like 190 over 100... he was like... we've got to get you over to the hospital to check you out.. when we get there, they check it.. it's 142 over 74.... I always get so nervous before going in... just cold sweats, trembling nervous.

Anyway, he said for me to get a home BP cuff and check it myself several times during the day for the next two weeks and if it isn't better to come in and he's going to do blood work. *sigh*

Well, he is watching out for you...Just take your bp, record it and tell him the results.
Stress is not good for you, Brad..Take care of yourself..

White-coat syndrome. I think a lot of people get that and yes, it's better to keep a more on-going track at home to get a better overall picture

I was on meds longer than I needed to be due to this very thing. I bought the cuff and kept close watch and recorded it. My b.p. is about 105/75 with a heart rate of 65. When I go to the doctor, it is more like 140/90. I don't let them take it anymore. But be prepared that you may have to go on meds for a time while you lose weight. Sticking to a low carb woe is the best thing you can do.

Next time have him check it at the END of your visit. I used to have this same thing happen, and doing that solved the problem.
On the other hand, if it's high at home, you would be better off going on meds until you can get some more weight off and then weaning off the bp meds.
I'm hoping that I can at least cut down on mine soon. Good luck! I have lots of Alabama fan friends, so RTR! (That was just for you, not me. I'm a Tennessee girl!)

Thanks guys. Anyone got a link to a decent bp cuff for home use? I'm a fairly big boy so.. yeah.

cfine - RTR! My wife is a huge Vols fan so... it was the biggest thing we had to overcome before we tied the knot. It was a struggle

I got a digital one at walmart with an extra long cuff and it works for smaller arms (mine) and large ones (dh's and my moms) without a problem
The brand is: ReliOn

You can take things like hawthorne extract and grape seed extract to lower bp. Also, there are lots of videos on youtube on lowering bp. One is my favorites is reduce bp using qigong. Just search for it. My doc says you need to do at least 20 minutes of lower belly breathing a day for at least 30 days to have a permanent effect.

Aw. I've been there and so relate. I have 'white coat syndrome', too. Weight loss will help and so will low carb. Maybe consider meds if it's over 120/80 consistently when at home. High bp can be dangerous. Sorry to hear about all the stress...I have been there, too, and it sucks.

Sorry for all that stress you're dealing with, Brad. A number of folks have found that doing JUDDD lowers blood pressure. If you don't want to do JUDDD, there are other types of IF out there. Here is the link to the JUDDD forum: JUDDD - Low Carb Friends

Also make sure they use the right size cuff for you. Big difference. My bp is so high they want to put me in the hospital too. At least high at drs appt. Look up how to take bp. A lot of dr offices dont take it right. I was really floored at how many dr offices didnt take it right. I have an omron that I record my bp with at home. Hth
