I'm not sure I got a polio shot as a child.

I have this memory of when I was in grade school in the early 60's, standing in line for a Polio shot. I remember a nurse taking my name, and crossing it off her list while about 6 kids in front of me were waiting to sit in the 3 chairs there to get their shots

There were about 2 grades waiting in line behind me. Then 2 of the 6 kids in the chairs getting shots at the same time started screaming like crazy and bawling. My little friends in line saw how scared I was and said they would help me so I wouldn't have to take it. With all the screaming and crying there was a lot of confusion going on, but I do remember switching places with someone, then going to the line where the kids already got their shots.

My siblings all had their polio shots the same day at school and have scars. Me.. nothing. ever.

Wow, I have no idea if this is one of those false memories from childhood you read about, or just a child's dream I had, since I was so young.

Is there a test to see if a person has had their polio shot? Anyone know?

Polio was given on sugar cubes. Small pox was a vaccination that made a large sore on your arm that made a scar. I have no scar from mine my Mom has a huge one

Two of my kids (all four born in the sixties) drank a liquid.
I think there were several forms of administration and the two older had a shot - no scar..

When I was a child there was no polio vaccine. - When I was nine my best friend got polio.

But the answer to your question is - test? I don't know. A doctor would though.

Thank-you! Since the oral vaccine wasn't even licensed until 1962, it could have still been the shot I did/didn't recieve. I would have been 6 then. I just remember it was early sixties, and that would have been right. Or it could have been the smallpox too.

Either way, I feel better about asking the doctor about it now. Only now I will ask about both Smallpox and Polio.

I got my small pox on my Thigh - can't even see it. The polio was given in liquid form...I remember getting it.. tasted awful...no sugar cube here.

Yes, you can ask for Titer testing.

Your thread reminded me of my never having chicken pox and having to get the titer to find out when I was having my first child. Showed I never had them, but also was informed I had a natural immunity to them.

Neither one of my kids ever got them either, but I got them the chicken pox shot anyway to make sure. Polio I got on a sugar cube and the small pox scar is still on my leg.
