MS and low carb

I was diagnosed with MS in 2003. So far since I started theropy (Betaseron) I haven't had any noticable exacerations. I do need a cane to walk for assistance . I started Atkins in August 2002 at aprox. 360 lbs. When I had my first MS attack in October 2002 after losing about 30 pounds I was afraid it was diet related. The Neurologist in the hospital who dignosed it after an MRI said it could not be because of my low carb lifestyle. I was reffered to the top MS Neorologist in my area. I've asked him about low carb and he has no problem with it.
I guess my question is any body who is suffering from MS or knows anybody who has MS what type of feedback are they getting from their doctor.

I was diagnosed with R/R MS. I'm doing ok now, mainly battling fatigue and vision issues (with the occasional cog fog), nothing I can't write off to getting old when I want to indulge in denial. lol
Anyway, I went strict low carb when I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes after a second round of predisone within 3 months which gave me a 30 lb weight gain. My doctor was all for my doing low carb since I wanted to try diet & exercise first. 4 years later and my blood sugar is still normal. As for the MS, low carb hasn't made me any worse and for the most part, makes me feel better.

Just a note, I don't have MS but my mother did and Atkins was Rx'd to her to help deal with the MS (relapse/remit) and combined with the betaseron it did help. She was golfing up to the day she was admitted to the hospital for a non MS issue and this was after 30+ years with MS (and little feeling on the left side of the body)

YMMV but the combo seems to work

I got dx with MS just about one year ago today (during the 2nd flare that landed me in the hospital). Lots of people say that a low fat diet is the preferred treatment method (aka the Swank Diet). I'm not so sure. I know that cutting out gluten has done MILES for my symptoms. My neurologist (a researcher and MS specialist) doesn't give a crap what I eat, which is the standard neuro position. I eat grassfed/pastured animals, tons of vegetables, and supplement with cod liver oil, D, a whole food b complex, and turmeric.

So far, I'm doing quite well--in school (I'm a med student) and in life (no real physical or cognitive sx on the daily).
