Hi,
I just found out that I am not supposed to take my Armour Thyroid within 4 to 6 hrs of taking my Zantac... I have to take the Zantac when I first get up in the morning for my stomach... Since I take the Thyroid under my tongue now, do I still have to wait for the Zantac... This really gets me because I have to take the Zantac first thing...

When I have questions like this, I always ask my pharmacist. They are very, very knowledgeable about medical interactions, etc.

Taking your Armour sublingually like you are doing....you don't have to 'worry' about the Zantac at same time...that being said, I'd be taking my Zantac a couple hours away from the Armour anyway...I have my calcium and magnesium timed for three hours away from my Armour..even if I do take it sublingually. Just superstitious I guess, heh heh. And I couldn't get the answer to this questions at ANY of my pharmacists in town (trust me, after Leo41's post, I decided to check..not ONE (there are five) Pharm-D knew...and one told me that Armour Thyroid 'hadn't been available since the late 1960's', made a note to avoid THAT particular pharmacy ). Three of them asked why in the world I'd want to take it 'that way' anyway, and the two youngest said "I don't think anything else would interfere with it in the belly if you took it sublingually".

Pam-

Sorry you couldn't find any helpful pharmacists. I should have added that I go to a neighborhood "mom and pop" pharmacy where the pharmacists are very helpful and knowledgeable. Once when my prescription was refused by the insurance people for a stupid reason, the pharmacist got the doctor and the insurance company on the line to work it out while I was right there--and I got my meds.

When I dealt with a larger local "chain" pharmacy, the pharmacists were all a disaster.

I have never had good results talking to the pharmacists, either, and I know that Pam has a lot of knowledge on the subject of thyroid and I appreciate her help so much...
