Any Hypoglycemic out there??
Any Hypoglycemics out there? I am just always hungry no matter how much I eat. It is very frustrating. I just don't know how to handle it anymore...I feel like I am destined to be overweight..because just holding on to this is almost painful sometimes. |

It is very hard. I've recently returned to the realms of hypo after being diabetic 2 for 14 years. Metabolism is changing with my age and hormone levels and now more than ever I have to watch that I don't pass out. I have to eat every 3 hours or less, and it does make weight a bigger issue for me right now.

I observe low carb and have for almost 2 years and my ailments have poofed!
if I dont eat small meals when I am NOT limiting carbs, I get the shakes, nauseous, dizzy...yuck.... I find that after a few days of under 30 carbs....I can go for hours without eating and my sugar stays very stable what type of diet are you doing? I can say that even natural sugar (fruits etc) flips me out |

yet, I am quite the opposite. I have to maintain a higher sugar level with small amounts of carbs like fruit to keep from going unconscious. I am under strict doctors supervision right now and we are finding that my symptoms are improving with a 70 to 100 gr per day carb total, spaced out throughout the day and I actually started losing weight and lost the severe swelling I was having in my feet.

I guess we are examples of one size doesnt fit all huh?
you have to find balance and what makes your body feel good there is nothing wrong with eating small meals frequently and it wont put weight on you can you do fruit etc? |

Yes-I hear you!!! I guess I am still trying to figure it out...because I just lost a nice chunk of weight and have done this over and over again...and this time- don't want to gain it back...but i find myself going back into my old habits...and I know that most of them are generated by my hypoglycemic needs for more food all the time. Hopeing there was a solution.....So..are you saying I just need to eat more frequent meals???

I am Hypoglycemic also. I think Hypoglycemia is a symptom of something else going on. I found out mine was caused by low thyroid. Now that I have been working on that the Hypoglycemia is getting much better.

it makes sense to me if you say that you feel 'low' after awhile. if you stick to proteins and natural carbs you should be ok I would think
experiment until you strike a balance |

I am hypoglycemic and I have found that since I've been doing Atkins I haven't really had any issues with my blood sugar. As soon as I touch grain or even sugar from fruit (or anything that isn't low carb-high fiber veggie) I'm doomed, seriously.
I eat several small meals a day. I haven't been shaky or sick-feeling since I started this WOE. I'm amazed about it myself. I hope you find your groove where you are feeling good. ![]() |

A small meal for me is ONE egg, 2 oz of meat, small salad, 1 oz cheese. If I eat fruit I would eat no more than ½ apple or ½c berries. No body is the same. All these are suggestions. Like Bluqq said, one size doesn't fit al.

Have you been checked for diabetes recently? Hypoglycemia is a symptom of insulin resistance a precursor to diabetes. My hypoglycemia is much better lc'ing but I come from a diabetic family and am always cautious about this.

Another help for me is whey protein powder. I put it in oatmeal for breakfast or blend it with milk with 1/2 a banana for a quick, easy snack or meal replacement. |

I hope not.....I haven't been checked because I refuse to take med's. I think I have it as well under control as possible with diet alone. I just hate being hungry all the time....know what I mean.

I would drink 2 cups of coffee in the morning at home and grab a large cup from the deli on my way to work and yes..caffeine does effect this a great deal
I now do 1 cup normal and 2 cups decaf and no issues! |

I'm hypoglycemic and cannot lc. It makes me worse. For me I have to make sure to have carbs (Whole grains, fruit, veggies),and protein with all of my meals and some fat. That keeps my blood sugar balanced.

Yes Denise...I am finding that I do best with each meal or snack to have protein and some fruit, veg, or potato with it. I was just eating meat alone, thinking that was better, and finding the opposite to be true.
Blugg- I used to drink a ton of coffee...to try to lift myself up..and kill hunger pains. But now it seems 1 or 2 cups is ok, any more I am too jittery....I agree. |

I'm the same way with coffee. I have 1 cp now and that's it. More then 2 and I get really jittery. I can't have alcohol at all. Even one bear really messes with my blood sugar. One night I woke up at 4 in the morning with my heart beating out of my chest. I was having trouble breathing and I couldn't get out of bed (Too weak and dizzy). I woke up dh and he took my pulse. It was over 145 beats a minute just laying in bed. We had been at a wedding that night and I had been drinking. I wasn't drunk or anything, but had a buzz. Never again. I ended up passing out from my blood sugar being so crazy, and I woke back up an hour later with the same pounding heart (Dh thought I went back to bed, and didn't realize I passed out). Dh got me some fruit and protein and that helped. It was so scary. |

Denise- I can relate to that with the alcohol. If I overdo it I have had similar symptoms. I can't drink beer at all anymore. I do pretty well on dry wines though.

![]() I had a strange experience the other morning. I wake up so nauseous sometimes and its usually a sign my sugar is very low. (For me, below 80 is blackout zone, and it was 83) I didn't feel like eating ANYthing at that point but knew I was in danger. I had an avocado on hand and ate 1/2 of it with some fresh lemon juice on it. My sugar stayed stable the REST of the day! I know it was the fat. |

Before I was lowcarbing, I found eating a high protein breakfast, with hardly any carbs at all, would set me up for a good day. And avoiding eating at bedtime. And avoiding too much caffeine. For me, eating more frequently tended to make things worse...was band-aiding the problem instead of correcting the imbalance. I'm actively lowcarbing, so with ketosis I have no low blood sugar episodes at all. It seems to be very individual. But I think when I do hit maintenance, I will continue and not have any carbs before noon.

Liza, I am just like you, you post looks like something I would write. I am always hungry no matter what. I have been trying to eat several small meals aday instead of three larger ones but even this does not seem to help me any. I have so much weight to lose anyway and like you I feel I am doomed to be over weight all my life.
HELP ME PLEASE......................... |
