I'm swishing sunflower oil in my mouth, I'm washing my face with castor oil, nope, I don't think you're crazy at all ! I'm going to try the Dr. Bronner's too, thanks for the recommendation. Did you get it at a regular store?, or at a health or whole foods store?

Health food store. I want to start using that soap when I shower, but haven't yet. I know what you mean, add dry brushing to the list and I'm there with you. Coconut oil at nite, whether op'ing or just taking KEEPS ME AWAKE ALL NITE! I've not op'ed since last time I couldn't go to sleep. I think it's a really good workout for facial muscles! Oh, I use jojoba on my skin after showering and a bit on ends of my hair after washing. I am soooo soft! All this OIL!!! Still, it's less expensive than most cosmetics. But so far, I am likeing the results with everything.

I purchased the Dr. Bronner's Almond soap, but haven't gotten the guts up to try it yet. I have been using Mike's peppermint. After I learned the scoop on flouride -- I don't want it any where near me.

Boy, I'll do anything once, that's not immoral. I tried the oil pulling with melted coconut oil, but only lasted about 5 or so minutes before I gagged, and started spitting it up into my hand, running into the bathroom. I like the idea of healthier gums whiter teeth and possibly better health, but I'm afraid to try again. I'm such a wimp. Has anyone else had gagging problems, and overcame it?

I tried the toothbrushing with soap too. First I used a liquid castile soap with tree tea oil - yuk! Then my homemade soap - which better, but not as nice as toothpaste though. I'd like to make my own toothpaste like I read somewhere on this thread, but leave out the glycerin.

Help, please, experts!

I thought I would try it..
got to 10 mins max with olive oil - such gallons of saliva produced I felt like a chipmunk and had to spit some out. It was white then. Lost the oily feel very quickly

Is this normal.. I see on the website comments on not enough saliva.. I seem to be off in the other direction!

my teeth feel really clean though.

First off, I am not an expert....just so you know
From what I've read (and it's been a lot) Olive Oil is not a good oil to use for oil pulling. Sunflower and Sesame oil are the two recommended types. I've even read of Olive Oil giving peoples teeth a yellow hue. When I first started I would do it until my mouth got "chipmunk" then spit it out and do it again until I reached 15-20 mins. It wasn't long before I could go the whole 20 mins without stopping. Maybe someone who's been doing it longer will have better advice, I'm kind of new at it myself.

hth

Thank you Laura

my plan is to use olive oil just till I can get some sesame. Ive had a big headache 2 days running now though!

my only problem is I seem to just produce loads of saliva and dont see it stopping over time. Maybe it will. But I just started with about a teaspoon this morning and that was better. Still ended up near drowned.

You really started something here sp26....How is it going with you?

I am enthralled by this, may give it a try with the coconut oil that I have been wondering what to do with...

What happened here? No posts since Saturday? I hope oil pulling didn't wipe you all out!

I'm thinking of trying this just for the teeth/gum benefits.

I am still doing it once a day. Only for 4 days now. I will keep you posted. My teeth seem a little whiter and less gum bleeding so far but nothing drastic.

I'm still following this thread- but I have not been able to incorporate this into my daily routine.
I would think it would take some time to have any noticable result and I just can't seem to commit

Trying for the first time right now. Using sunflower oil.

A little strange, but no problems.

OK, tried the oil pulling with EV olive oil and Yuck! can't get past the bitter taste.

I've been brushing my teeth with salt for a long time now. I seems to help with the yellow that my toothpaste doesn't affect. Tastes, well, salty though.

So I got the (I thought) brilliant idea of mixing olive oil and salt and brushing my teeth with the mixture. It seems to be working pretty well! The salt kills the bitterness of the olive oil, the olive oil tones down the saltiness of the salt. And it works on the yellowing of my teeth.

Not oil pulling exactly, but I can brush my teeth with the mixture a lot longer than I would be able to swish olive oil.

Oh how I wish I had learned of this years ago... I might have saved my own teeth. Does anyone know if a denture wearer can utilize this for the benefit of supressed appetite/fresher breath?

I would like to try the swishing... but would I do this wearing my dentures or not? I don't want to damage them (don't know how that could be possible) and I wonder if it would whiten them?

I've been reading up on this but I haven't seen anything about dentures.

I'm no expert, but I don't see what it could hurt and it probably would whiten the dentures. Should be good for your gums as well.

Hey Barbara!

Like I told them on the main board, it's springtime and I was just havin' a little fun with the avatar.

I've been oil pulling each morning since Monday, 3/26. My teeth feel smooth, gums look good. I haven't really noticed any whitening of my teeth yet. I'm using sunflower oil.

I just tried it for the first time using unrefined coconut oil...and I have an interesting addition...

I was feeling cold, so I took my temp thinking that I must be slightly feverish...nope 98.2 (I used a basal thermometer that I had handy.) after oil pulling about 30 minutes later my temp is 98.9 and I feel warmer.

Now this could be just the start of a fever for me so maybe it's nothing...but it is interesting and I'm going to take my temp before and after op for the next couple of days (assuming I'm not sick)...if it really DOES raise my temp the claims of increases metabolism might actually be there.

This morning I took my temp right out of bed with my basal...97.9

Went downstairs/got my coconut oil...went back upstairs swishing away...20 minutes later my basal temp 98.5...even taking into account the normal temp shift of coming up the stairs of about 2 tenths of a point...I did sit on my tukus the entire 20 minutes...that would still be about a 4 10ths jump.

I'll do this again during my kids nap time and take my temp as I put the oil in my mouth.

I've noticed when TAKING coconut oil I get an energy boost and appetite suppression...and I seem to be feeling that here EVEN though I'm not eating it...interesting anyway.

Stack, I remember when I first started using coconut oil (in my morning coffee), I found I would have something similar to a hot flash! I would literally feel my heart beating and my face get flushed. Plus, I also had a great energy boost for a time. It's amazing stuff.

I never have worked my way up to the three tablespoons a day though. I need to be conscious of it and try to get that much in during the day. I don't want to be wide-eyed all night though! LOL

Anyone have an opinion on flax oil? I bought a small bottle, and no stores around carry sesame oil, etc.

Don't know about flax oil.

I use sunflower oil from Kroger, virtually tasteless.

I went to the dentist Tuesday, he said my gums looked better. And I barely bled when he ran that ski rope through my teeth.

He'd never heard of it, but he said to keep pulling!

Am new here...well, years ago, I used to lurk here and remembered how much help this board was. Anyway, found this oil pulling discussion and it has intrigued me! I'm off to the HFS to find some cold pressed sunflower or sesame oil and start tonight. Dentist told me yesterday that my gums were really receding and I want to see if this helps!

Also, going to look at some natural soap products for brushing teeth. Thanks for all the tips! Barney04

I got out of routine of OP, but going to get started again. I do like results. Just got out of schedule. I have only been able to find safflower oil, flax oil, or olive, so that is what I have been using. Ain't dead yet from it.......
