I'm interested in taking magnesium supplements. I have Diabetes Type 2, which has a tendency to deplete your body's magnesium level, and also occasionally suffer from gout. Most recently, however, I've been suffering from constipation, which has so far responded to only one type of laxative: milk of magnesia. Fiber, increased H2O, and other stool softeners haven't really worked for me. Didn't try mineral oil since it can absorb the medication that I'm taking.

But rather than taking milk of magnesia long-term, I'm trying to take magnesium supplements thinking that it will have the same effect. What is the appropriate dosage level for the magnesium? It seems like I have reasonably healthy kidneys, so getting rid of magnesium should not be a problem. I've seen Upper Level dosage mentioned as 420mg per day for men. I am not convinced that that's high enough. What would be the high enough dosage
