I'm thinking I cut out all carbs, sugars, etc except veggies and some fruit. I want to try to stay in my daily points, but not sure if that's feasible. I figure if I still eat lean meats, add in some fats, and have veggies - I should be good.

Any thoughts or anyone who does this have any advice? What's your plan look like?

FTC: Skechers deceived consumers with shoe ads

WASHINGTON — The government wants you to know that simply sporting a pair of Skechers' fitness shoes is not going to get you Kim Kardashian's curves or Brooke Burke's toned tush.

Skechers USA Inc. will pay $40 million to settle charges by the Federal Trade Commission that the footwear company made unfounded claims that its Shape-ups shoes would help people lose weight and strengthen their butt, leg and stomach muscles. Kardashian, Burke and other celebrities endorsed the shoes in Skechers ads.

Wednesday's settlement also involves the company's Resistance Runner, Toners, and Tone-ups shoes and claims of deceptive advertising for those shoes as well.

Consumers who bought the shoes would be eligible for refunds, though it's not clear how much money they'll get. The FTC says that will depend on how many claims are received in the eight-month filing period. Buyers can go to the FTC website to file a claim.
Most of the $40 million federal settlement would be returned to consumers, but a small amount of the settlement would be used to administer the payouts.

The settlement is related to a broader agreement also announced Wednesday that resolves a multi-state investigation led by the attorneys general from Tennessee and Ohio and involving more than 40 states. The company will provide an additional $5 million to the states, and pay $5 million in class-action attorney fees.

"The FTC's message, for Skechers and other national advertisers, is to shape up your substantiation or tone down your claims," said David Vladeck, director of the agency's consumer protection bureau. For millions of consumers, he said, "the only thing that got a workout was their wallet."

The commission settled similar charges with Reebok last year over its EasyTone walking shoes and RunTone running shoes. That $25 million agreement also provided customer refunds.
Skechers denied the allegations but said it settled to avoid long litigation.

"Skechers could not ignore the exorbitant cost and endless distraction of several years spent defending multiple lawsuits in multiple courts across the country," said David Weinberg, the company's chief financial officer. "While we believe we could have prevailed in each of these cases, to do so would have imposed an unreasonable burden on the company."

The company, based in Manhattan Beach, Calif., said it has received overwhelmingly enthusiastic feedback about the shoes from thousands of customers.

Skechers billed its Shape-ups as a fitness tool designed to promote weight loss and tone muscles with the shoe's curved "rocker" or rolling bottom — saying it provides natural instability and causes the consumer to "use more energy with every step." Shape-ups cost about $100 and are sold at retailers nationwide.

Ads for the Resistance Runner shoes claimed people who wear them could increase "muscle activation" by up to 85 percent for posture-related muscles and 71 percent for one of the muscles in the buttocks, said the FTC.

The commission says Skechers falsely represented that clinical studies backed up the company's claims about its toning shoes. The FTC's Vladeck said the studies had defects, such as one that said people lost weight wearing the toning shoes, when in fact they gained weight.

The settlement bars Skechers from misrepresenting any tests, studies or research on its shoes in the future.

I am 31 (yesterday!) and am going to try low-carbing it. I currently weigh about 295lbs, was 338 in september-october of 2011 (this is the heaviest I have ever been). my goal is 255lbs to start with, as that is what I was in 2009, before I started a drug that added some 80lbs to my frame (this irritated me to no end, and I discontinued the drug in october 2011). I am diabetic, diagnosed in 2007 or 2008 (can't remember too well, haha). my last a1c reading was 6.9, but I have a feeling it has gone up some, so I need to work on that, too. it had dropped from 8.9 in december. the class of drug I was on, that added to my weight, is notorious for worsening or causing diabetes, and my a1c was 10.8 at the height of that period in my life. I have no desire to go there again.

so, I look forward to learning from you guys! oh, and my name is Leslie :)

So today is day 5 for me and im loving this new way of eating but i do have a question.

SO far I have lost 5 pounds and then this morning when I weighed myself I had gained 8 ounces, I know this seems like not much but im confused.

So yesterday my menu

2 eggs and 4 slices of bacon for breakfast

4 fried mozzerella sticks breaded in pork rinds, a small spinach salad with 5 yellow sun bursts cherry tomoatoes and half of a 10 oz steak fried in a little oil ( i couldnt finish the whole thing.) 2 tbs of ranch dressing, and about 1/8 cup of sour cream. for lunch

1 pork steak fried in olive oil, (I would say no less then 8 oz) Boiled zuccinni with butter, and loaded mashed califlower.

yesterday at work i didnt drink nearly as much water as i usually do and i put a little too much seasoning salt on the steak so it was kind of salty.

also had 5pieces of some turkey jerky.

I ate dinner really late yesterday like 9:45pm then went to bed at 10:15 can you help me figure out where i went wrong?

I did measure myself and so far about an inch is gone off my stomach so im not discouraged just want to do this right.

I know this isn't new news to you veterans, but I got a great compliment at the gym the other day.

Now that my dry skin and hair have been remedied in part by this WOE, in part by using coconut oil as a moisturizer and in part by supplementing with biotin and hyaluronic acid - my forehead and other face lines are flattening out, and the deep dark circles under my eyes are fading. I had a stranger offer an unsolicited guess as to my age. Mind you, I had no makeup on and hadn't been awake very long.

"I guess you're only around 23 or 24."

Yeah, I did a grinning jaw drop, and let them know I'd be 40 in less than a year. So I got a jaw drop in return and a request for 'how do you do that?' which of course I happily answered. I'm not a vain person, but I really enjoyed that outside confirmation that yes, I look HEALTHIER. Thank you Dr. Atkins!

Is this big gulp going to knock me out of ketosis?
I don't even like regular soda!
Guessing going super high fat and super low/no carb today will help keep me going...

This stuff was a near staple for me way back 'when. Like grilled cheese without the bread; just slice and fry until golden. It was really hard not to overdo it - such good stuff!

I went to WalMart this morning (I can't stand WM so I rarely go) and I knew the WF Frying cheese had been discontinued but I always look for something like it anyway.

El Viajero is the parent company for Wisconsin Farms, and lo and behold, in the dairy case I found El Viajero Queso Para Freir - frying cheese.

Before I get TOO enthused, I need to try it. The WF was fantastic and tasty - hopefully this is the same product. Obviously it has the same intent, as directions are to slice and fry - hopefully it has the same flavor. I bought some and will give it a go this evening.

If this is old news, pardon my fried cheese excitement post, lol.

Yahoo has a article out today "debunking" dieting myths...

The very first one is this:

"Misconceptions about how to lose weight abound, especially on the Internet. Get the facts on shedding pounds now: Start by dispelling these 10 commonly held - but wholly inaccurate - notions.

Myth 1: Carbs spell trouble for dieters.

Fact: Carbohydrates are actually an important source of energy. Even so, that doesn't mean there's nothing to learn from low-carb diets. Carbs are not all created equal, and to help you Drop 5, you want to limit processed carbs such as white bread and croissants. Instead, enjoy beans and whole grains, such as brown rice and whole-wheat bread. And don't forget fruits and vegetables, which provide a host of nutrients and fiber, are low in calories, and can help reduce the risk of obesity and heart disease.

The body also uses carbs as fuel during exercise to burn body fat - another great reason to keep bread (and sandwiches!) on the menu."

1. I had some birth control changes, but now I'm not on anything and I think it has helped a lot. (I don't suggest this for everyone, but it works fine for my life.) I think fake hormones don't help my pcos/insulin resistance situation a bit!

2. Adding in coconut oil. I've been working hard to get it into my diet whatever way possible.

3. Cutting out diet soda. Hardest habit I have ever had to break.... I miss it all the time.

4. Limiting crystal light. (I still drink crystal light energy with caffiene and b vitamins on nights that I have to work or when I cant seem to get moving!)

5. Being poor. I quit my teaching job to go back to college for nursing. I am working my way through as a PCT on night shift. I am on such a tight budget that I have to buy cheap, whole foods and cook them myself and what I buy is what I have to make work. It gets boring, but it wont be forever.

Anyway, I am about to add in some exercise and we'll see what happens from there. Thanks for all the support LCF!

I go through these phases where I think I try to psych myself out of doing something. I was on a low carb diet for a couple weeks with success. Then I picked up First Magazine (I know, I know). I was intrigued by the front of the magazine article that said "Diet only two days". So I read it, and basically they were talking about low carbing two days out of the week. Then there was a section about fasting two days if you want to lose weight faster. So then I started looking up Eat Stop Eat online because it was the one mentioned in the magazine article. It looked so intriguing.

The science looked legit. I read the ebook online for free for Eat Stop Eat. Anyone had successes, failures? It seems like a lifelong type of thing one can do forever because you're not technically NOT eating everyday, you just fast two days a week for 24 hrs each time.

Has anyone tried Intermittent Fasting? If so, what were your experiences compared to low carbing? Which did you like better?
Successes/failures on this type of lifestyle?

Thanks for listening!

As a die hard carnivore, I've looked forward to the meat eaters dream meal with no restrictions, and the ability to sample multiple cuts of meat expertly prepared.

Here's the routine, Gaucho's run around with skewers of meat ready to carve at your delight, you specify rare, medium, or well done and use your tongs to pull off the meat to your plate.

BTW, the salad bar is spectacular and what you see on my plates are 30% of what was left for "decoration" along with my carnivore choices.

IMAGE #1 is partially consumed with bottom sirloin and Rib Eye Roast, 2 of the early cuts.

Image #2 is MORE Sirloin, Rib Eye, and added double Pork Ribs, plus 2 Chicken Sausages.

Image #3 is Plate 2 with a added huge mound of Lamb Roast sliced really THICK, simply just melted in your mouth!

Image 4, note I had to eat some of the veggies, the Gaucho's came by and I wanted more of the Rib Eye Bottom, Sirloin, and Lamb Roast very very rare, oh my GAWD is this stuff delicious!

Image 5 is the addition of the most unbelievable Lamb Rib Chops, sliced as pairs and perfectly grilled / skewered, I asked for a double serving, thats 4 fat chops!

After consuming ALL the above plates, I actually took a break and decided to have a "clean" plate supplied and patiently waited for my favorite item of the day..... the delicious lamb chops of course!

Here they are, as a "dessert," this was the last item I consumed, well sort of, as I passed on 1 of them to our gracious hosts George and Pussanee. Our family will forever remember this gastronomical delight. Beware, unless you are serious carnivores, this may NOT be your cup of tea!

And finally a close up of my fav.....LAMB CHOPS NUMBER 5-7.....

If you've looked this far, scroll back up to the first image, that is the skewer of LAMB CHOPS.... I first scored 4 chops.....

I really don't know how many lbs. was consumed, nor how many calories, I don't count them functioning strictly via gluconeogenesis for my glycogen. I really don't advocate consuming this MUCH meat in one sitting but as a serious carnivore at heart, I believe this one diversion isn't going to hurt me much. Hoping you enjoyed this pictorial???

ANYONE HUNGRY FOR SOME RARE MEAT?????

I regret to admit I didn't switch to maintenance as I can't stay at a carb level over 30 without binging or getting cravings. So hubby and I took the whole 40 weeks off and then two after delivery for recovering and getting used to our 3rd lovely boy being home!

We are both back on Induction as of today at much higher weights then we like but looking forward to getting back in our skinny jeans :)

Btw, candy, cake, cookies, ice cream, pizza, pasta, bread, all that stuff... So not worth it and makes me tired and groggy headed now so we are glad to be back to the way of eating that works so well for our bodies :)

Hi everyone,

I am new to LCF. I started induction May 1 and through google searches I frequently read LCF posts.

I need your help! I had lost 8lbs over the first 10 days of induction with no exercising. I was very strict with my carbs and my diet was primarily red meats, salad, and eggs. Some processed meats as well.

Then on the 11th my mom came to visit, and we went out to eat every day. Thursday and Friday I ordered the right foods (burgers no bread, steak, caesar salad no crutons) but on Saturday she made reservations for Del Posto. It is such a special restaurant that I paid NO attention to carbs. I indulged in all the bread, pasta, desert, and wine at the table.

The next morning I had gained 2lbs. I was SO discouraged. I figured I had undone everything... an had another carb filled day yesterday. This morning I woke up and gained another 2lbs, although I had nowhere near the amount of carbs that I did on Saturday.

I am really upset with myself, but am scared to go back on induction due to this horrible weight gain and then all the fat I would eat if I decide to go back on it.

Is all hope lost? If so, I figured I would just start counting calories and hit the gym hard. Please please help! I will wait to eat something today until I get some input :)

This might sound unimportant to some, but I have a huge problem with my Inlaws!! They don't support low carb diets/lifestyles at all! They always say that it is abnormal and you should eat 'normal' otherwise you have a disorder! I don't know how to tell about my new lifestyle! Would it hurt that much to eat whatever they serve at family gatherings and resume my lifestyle as soon as I get home?? I don't want all the looks and remarks, I am a very private person. The other thing is, they eat a lot of carby/sugary foods!! And they are not over weight!! So, I cannot use that as excuse either. Please help!!
