After a 3wk binge I am back. ANd I have a question that I have been thinking about for a while now.

Those of you that have won the battle, I would like to hear from you. My question is, how do you beat the ALL OR NOTHING mindset??

3 weeks ago I was going strong. Hell, everytime I start back to LC I go strong for a good amount of time, and then take that ONE bite. That ONE bite sends me into a downward spiral that I cant seem to get myself out of. I tell myself, "Oh, you have already ruined it for the day, might as well eat whatever you want!" Then befor I realize it, it has been 3weeks, or a month, or 6months, and I have to pick myself up and start all over again. Last night I was laying in the bathtub, giving myself a pep talk about starting back today, when I said out loud, " Brandy, you feel the best about yourself when you are LCing." So, why would I want to ruin that? Why do I keep ruining that, over and over and over agian??

What do you all do to keep your willpower intact? What do you do to keep the ALL and throw away the NOTHING???

Anyone experience pain in the middle of the back while pursuing LC diets? Before the diet, I used to have chronic back pains in the usual place, i.e., near the bottom of my spinal cord. Now, I'm having back pains in the middle of the back right about where the ribs start (frontal that is). Is that where the kidneys are? It comes on whenever I stand for a little.

I'm a month into my LC diet and have lost 20-25 pounds. The middle back pain is sometimes accompanied by occasional dizziness when I try to get out of my seat or stand. It doesn't seem to be hypoglycemia; I've checked my levels and I'm normal (85-100). I consume about 85-110 carbs per day and 1600 calories. I'm a month into this, so in theory, I should be used to this level of carbs. Before LC, I suspect I was consuming 500+ carbs and 2000 calories.

I wish it would be over already or I could just hide out at home with a good movie but I agreed months ago to host it at my home with my Mom, during a time a was backsliding. Now I am back on my WOE (Atkins) I am at my lowest weight ever since I was a preteen, I have tons of energy, I am happy all the time, I enjoy my meals and my coffee in the morning is euphoric. It sounds like theres no chance of falling off the wagon...but either my family is over weight (so I feel like I'm rubbing my WOE in their face) or of course theres my 5-something 98lb sister in law, 2 years older than me, beautiful happy-go-lucky-high-on-life-a-always-happy eat ANYTHING including cake and candy including regular meals everyday and not gain an ounce...wears the same jeans she wore in middle school. It makes me so mad, I begin to think...if she can eat that way and stay so thin why can't I? Then I eat and gain 5lbs, feel awful, gassy, tired...my stomach gets HUGE within hours. I went off on Halloween, when my sister was over because I didn't want to appear obsessive or fun-lacking during her visit but I got so sick by that evening I curled up in a ball and wondered if i'd die. Then packing on 7lbs in that coming week...I really did feel like a failure!
Now that I'm back I REFUSE to do that to myself again. I want to be happy and healthy while my family visits not fat and grouchy. But I must have support. On the Holiday for sure, and the days leading up when my Mom fills the house with junk food to be prepared. She is due to arrive tomorrow evening.
Do any Atkins dieters love to text on here? I would appreciate a buddy I could text for support, even at the dinner table with the slice of pie heading towards my mouth. I'm a text addict, anybody not weak willed would be fabulous.
Online support helps a lot, too.
Thanks!

Hello everyone! It's probably been almost a year or so since I posted last, but a lot has been going on with me (complications in the family, huband's return from deployment, etc.) So now I'm really trying to get back on track with everything because these last few months has had my body and eating habits all out of whack again! But anyhow, I'm going to try to pick up where I left off with Kimmer/Stillman's WOE and callanetics to tone up in the process of weight loss. I had gotten down to 123 which was great, but now I'm back up to 143 which has been my highest in about 5 years or so  It's really bothering me because I've not been able to fit in any of my clothes, in fact, I keep having to buy new pants because I just couldn't put the fork down. Oddly enough, I eat meat all the time... where I'm messing up is the excess bread, because I rarely eat fruits or veggies.. if I'm lucky I might have A serving of each during any one day. In the mean time, I've been taking diethylproprion to help with the cravings, which has done some for me, but apparently not enough.

Has anyone taken weight loss meds or OTC meds for appetite suppression in combination with such a strict WOE? I don't plan to overdo the exercise as I once did when I worked at Curves AND did diet pills so I don't feel like it's going to put a lot of strain on my body. But until I get into ketosis or when I feel like I might want to cheat, I might want some backup. Do you believe this is healthy, yes or no, and why? Eventually I would love to be able to do everything all natural. I have just been a binge eater for so long and it seems like I'm on a constant binge... I eat roughly 2500-3000 cals a day and that's just a guess.

Also I would like to know if you guys have any recs. on what helped you get into the program and what motivated you to stick with it until goal or past! I need all the help I can get! Thanks so much for taking the time to look :) Hope everyone's having a fantastic Friday!

For the love of exercise

Hello, I have just completed my fourth month of low carb bliss. For some reason, during the first three months my exercise was practically non-existent. WHY? Did I hate to exercise? NO! Was I not used to exercising? NO!

Hello, I have just completed my fourth month of low carb bliss. For some reason, during the first three months my exercise was practically non-existent. WHY? Did I hate to exercise? NO! Was I not used to exercising? NO!
I cannot answer why.... During those first three months I lost 28 pounds and I was HAPPY!

Well, my weight loss started to slow. It was still there, but s l o w. Maybe it had to do with a few extra carbs I was throwing in here and there? I also noticed that even though I was getting smaller, some of my parts were getting softer from no activity.

Throughout this journey my energy level has been through the roof!! So I decided - hmmm, start exercising again and see what happens.

WOW! It has kick started my weight loss again like I cannot believe! I am now at a 36 pound loss and happy as a little lark.

I would like to encourage you - if you are not exercising, seriously consider it. Even just a day or two a week at first will make a difference. Then you can slowly add onto that.

I FEEL GREAT!!

I love all the support and suggestions that are found on this board!! I have learned many things and I thought by posting this message it may give at least one person the extra push to start exercising again like I did. IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE! :)

Hi folks…
It felt like Christmas this morning...we have a friend moving and I'm cooking steak for lunch Sunday.

Arrived at Sam's Club before 8am this morning (business membership) and chatted with the lady at the meat counter while I bought 4 packs of steak that are reduced because the sell by date is tomorrow...at a total for 13 pounds of steak for $31.41 or about 8 meals worth of steak at an average $3.92 meal...and 8 of those are full 1 pounders!

2 packages of London Broil (1'' thick) and 2 packages of 4-Top Sirloins each (1.25'' thick). Brought them home and put them up in freezer bags and they are solidifying as I type...

Total ''splurge'' averaged out at 1/2 pound on each London Broil and a full pound apiece on the Top Sirloins...

I found out that if I call ahead, they will custom cut steaks to my thickness (so I can get 1 3/4'' thick ones) with only 30-60 minute lead time! What a great service that will be...

I find it so much easier to properly cook thick steaks without drying them out versus thin ones...

I would steel it from them but not sure if chewed pieces were in the mix. Avoiding the grilled fat is not a way to eat a steak, imo. :)

Hi everyone!
I was wondering if I'm the only one here, but I have a really hard time spending money on things that coud help with my health and well-being. I am a newer teacher (graduated last December) and while I'm making more money now, I have trouble spending the money on things that might help me with my health and well-being.

I seem to have no problem buying lc choices for food (I think because deep down I know that I have to with so many food allergies), but I have trouble spending on other things. For example, I need to get excercising and have looked at the Wii + Wii Fit for forever - I really want one, but when push comes to shove never get around to buying one ...

Same goes for wool socks - hahaha (I know there is no real comparison in price between the two) but the cost around $23 for the Smart Wool socks here in Canada - it's gettng cold and I have sensitivity (extreme) to cold. It took me over a year to buy some...

Anyways - I'm still thinking about the Wii Fit because I know I need to work on my balance, etc. (I have fibromyalgia and hypermobile joints - so I sorta flop every which way for posture - not good for pain), but can't seem to bring myself to buy one... Should I just loosen the purse strings and get one OR am I being reasonable?

Have a great weekend. Anyone else doing a Turkey Trot race on Saturday? I'll be doing a 5-mile race down here at the Jersey Shore.

I just want to share something that I have been taking for 2 weeks and it is absolutely wonderful!!! I found sugar craving suppliments (glutamine & chromium & citrimax) at my health food store, so I got those. And then I have been feeling overwhelmed and stressed for the last several years & my tummy fat & weight gain shows major cortosal issues & my eating has been way way way out of control! So I also started taking Super b12. Since taking these suppliments my life has changed!!! My eneregy is through the roof. I have more self control than ever due to not having intense sugar cravings & my outlook of day to day issues and life as a whole has greatly improved!!! The sugar pills are from Natures Plus. So, just a word about something that is working miracles for me in hopes that this might help someone else.

Since she has lost weight her breasts sag really low and my heart breaks for her because usually when you breasts get that way you have had kids and your older. not 16. I don't say anything to her but when she is home without a bra on you can see how they sag and i don't know what to do to help her. She mentioned it the other day and I acted like it was nothing but honestly it hurts to see her wondering why her boobs look this way. Will they tighten up? I feel odd asking this here. I just dont know what to do. She should be 16 with an older womans body

I have been here for a year. A YEAR of (mostly) low-carbing, and I FINALLY tried some oopsie rolls. They are great! They taste like bread. I had one w/ butter and garlic salt--yum! Right now I'm eating a BLT w/ avocado using another oopsie roll. Yum, yum, yum! (And I'm not a huge bread person...maybe that's why I'd never tried them.)

Just wanted to encourage people to try them. :)

*****

Oopsie Rolls (Gluten-Free Buns)
Recipe from cleochatra's blog

3 large eggs
pinch of cream of tartar (1/8 tsp)
3 ounces cream cheese (Do not soften)

Preheat oven to 300 degrees F.

Separate the eggs and add cream cheese to the yolks. Use a mixer to combine the ingredients together. In a separate bowl, whip egg whites and cream of tartar until stiff (if you're using the same mixer, mix the whites first and then the yolk mixture). Using a spatula, gradually fold the egg yolk mixture into the white mixture, being careful not to break down the whites. Spray a cookie sheet with non-stick spray and spoon the mixture onto the sheet, making 6 mounds. Flatten each mound slightly.

Bake about 30 minutes (You want them slightly softer, not crumbly). Let cool on the sheet for a few minutes, and then remove to a rack and allow them to cool. Store in a loosely open sack and allow to rest on the counter before use (otherwise they might be too moist). Can be frozen.

Notes: If you are making these to be savory (for burgers) you can add dry mustard and dill or other seasonings to the yolk mixture. If you want a more sweet roll, add a very small amount of stevia natural sweetener to the yolk mixture.

Makes 6@ about 85 calories a piece, >1 carb per
Induction Friendly, Gluten-Free

Now I know it's not blood, I know it is supposed to be mostly protein, but I've been throwing it away.

Is there some reasonable use for it? I might be able to collect about a cup a week. Maybe freeze it and keep adding to it? But what would I use it for? I don't usually make recipes... just cook whole foods as they are.

I usually keep a little on the plate to dip my slices in.

The weather is gloomy, school is just a drag, and my energy called in sick. I'm driving in my car towards a fork in the road: one route leads home where I want to go curl up by the fire and sleep.. The other route leads to the gym, where I had planned to do a solid hour of cardio this morning. I'm arguing with myself, trying to justify that my body "needs a day of rest" or "i'll just eat less today." In a fleeting moment of strength, I make the decision to go to the gym. I finished my hour's worth of cardio and I feel FANTASTIC, am now sipping a hot, tall chai tea and munching on a cinnamon flax muffin. I feel empowered and invincible.

It is the little victories like this that will lead to lifelong success! Sometimes we don't give ourselves enough credit for getting in 20 minutes of cardio when you'd rather do anything else, or for turning down a cookie tray at the office. We easily forget how epic these decisions can really be, and can collectively become discouraged at this lifestyle.

Challenge yourself:
List one small victory that you have claimed in the past week. It can be anything, small or gigantic, that was a difficult hurdle that you climbed over.
Inspire yourself!

so for anyone else who's having a turkey-day or christmas pitch-in at work this year - just so's you know, it is VERY easy to stay on plan!

we had ours today and there was SO much food that everyone brought and I stuck with the meat (turkey & ham) - deviled eggs - vegee tray (radishes, cauliflower) - cheeseball - green beans. it was yummy! I stayed far away from the corn casserole, the sweet potato casserole (which looked divine, but no!), the rolls, the mashed taters...

and the dessert spread - there were SOOOO many - but I brought a sugar-free low-carb pumpkin spice cake (must be past nuts/seeds rung 3)
Low Carb Sugar Free Pumpkin Spice Cake - - FabulousFoods.com and it was YUMMMY! (i actually made them in small personal serving muffin sizes). And I didn't touch ANY of the other desserts. I wanted to - i wholeheartedly admit it, lol - but nope! didn't touch anything else. :p

so anyone else who's having one - make sure to take your own dessert! that way you can "indulge" with everyone else but make sure you're staying on plan! :)

I have one scheduled next week. I know it's a fasting test. Will I get nauseated by the test itself?

I also need an x-ray and wanted to go ahead and get it while I'm at the hospital. Then I have a Dr's appointment the same afternoon.

So how am I going to feel after the HIDA?

TIA

I just had to tell you all how easy it was for me to stay on plan during my office’s Thanksgiving potluck today. Deviled eggs, pickles wrapped in cream cheese and ham (surprisingly delicious), bacon wrapped chicken bites, roasted sweet potatoes, ham and turkey…and while I did indulge in a little corn bread dressing, I left the room completely guilt-free! If I could ignore carrot cake and peanut butter pie, you can do it too!!
PS – I pulled a switcheroo on my co-workers and used Dreamfields elbows in my mac and cheese.

IT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL TO COUNT OUT SUGAR ALCOHOL!!!
It's such a stinking lie! Think of all of the diabetics in the world who never turn the package over and read the carb contents because on the front of the package it says, "Low # Net Carbs" or "Sugar Free." I don't get it. Why is this allowed? It's out and out fraud.

Most of us have read one or more books on how carbohydrates react to our poor little pancreas and inevitably we get to the chapter about sneaky carbs, its those carbs that we never see coming. Well, I think a list of the worst carb creepers should be compiled. I will get it started and keep a chart. Please add!

IE:

Ihop - they add pancake batter to their eggs! B@sterds!

Walnuts - some walnuts sold at walmart say "3 grams" of carbs. But the 3 grams is after subtracting 3 grams of fiber. But they still put the 3 grams of fiber on the package! so it is easy to think walmart has mad magic walmat-nuts that are carb free!

Sugar free lemon desert (at home town buffet) - I have no solid evidence there desert is low carb but I have seen the joy in my wifes eye while eating it and I can say "there is no way its carb free!"

So I ask you what creepy carbs have you discovered?

Hi I just discovered oopsie rolls (revolution rolls, I think they are the same thing) and I am so excited. Anyway, they are great with parmesan cheese and garlic salt sprinkled on right before baking, then slathered in butter like a dinner roll.

AND I just made grilled cheese with two plain ones. Buttered the bottom of each roll and fried like normal. Kept the heat on medium as I wasn't sure how they would fare, but they did great. It was all toasty and buttery just like a real grilled cheese :kicking: !!...and apparently they are induction friendly so what's not to love.

Do you use oopsie rolls? What do you do with them? Anyone make a big oopsie roll for pizza?

I had the WORST migraine today at work. I was literally ready to throw up my head hurt so bad, despite having taken tylenol, advil, etc., nothing helped. My boss' wife saw me sitting there with my head down and asked what was wrong ... I told her and she immediately said "you need SUGAR!" and promptly went into the office refrigerator and got me a full-sugar coke and said "drink this, you'll feel better!!!"

Well, that's a tough one ... she's not only the boss' wife, but she's very dominating and bossy (even over HIM !) so what's a girl to do ?? Add to my already insidious pain by ingesting SUGAR? HELLO? So I took the bottle from her, and she watched as I *sipped* .... I wanted to GAG from one itsy bitsy sip .... when she was satisfied that I was actually drinking it ... she went back to her office ... I hid the bottle for the rest of the afternoon and when she wasn't looking, DOWN THE DRAIN WENT ALL THE SUGAR !!! Blech !! That stuff is CRAP !! I now understand how it does, in fact, clean battery cables and toilets!:sick::sick:

Hey there everyone...

I was wondering if anyone was planning on doing any half marathons 6(or more) months from now? If not, if anyone wanted to where we could all post here every day the exercise we did that day and can motivate one another until the big day! And then we could all go to whatever that location is and run a half marathon? I'm trying to look for ways to motivate myself and I would love to be able to successfully complete a half marathon. I see a lot of people on here plan cruises, half marathons, marathons etc., which other LCF's members so I figured I'd see if anyone else was interested.

I hope some are :]

Feel free to let us know if you do plan on one and where it is? Or if you know some websites to some and what not.

Hope to hear some good feedback :)
However, i did everything right, counting my carbs, and eating clean. I am happy about that. If it was not a more generous loss, it was because my portions, which are not as bad, on the average, as they used to be, are still quite large. I really do not expect to progress too drastically in the portion control game. Slow improvement is the best I can hope for. So, accepting reality & being content that the numbers are getting smaller is better that going off plan out of frustration. Love & profits: FLATFERENGHI (ps: the stats- 378.6/368.4/goal ?This is after 1 month back)

Hello.

I could use some guidance....

I started induction on Nov 3rd and it is my intent to stay on induction probably for a month. Yesterday was my two week point. I started at 192 and today I am 185. That's makes a weight loss of only 7 pounds for a 2 week period eating this way. I saw the majority of the weight loss inthe first 2 days where I dropped form 192 to 187. Over the next weeks I simply fluctuated down (and up!) by a pound or two. Are these common resluts? I am a bit dissappointmed as I thought I would have a lot more. This was a huge thing for me to be able to do this for even two weeks. I was (am) a total junk food person/sugar addict..reeses penut butter cups for breakfast! However, I have had no sugar and no junk food and I have only lost 7 pounds :-(

<P>
Here is what I have been eating ..and I am only posting day one and day two because I because I basically eat the same menu over and over.
<P>
MENU 1:

Breakfast: 4 eggs scrambled with butter. Seasoned with chives or oregeno and garlic salt. Water to drink

Snack: string cheese (one)

Lunch: Hamburger patty with mustard, a little mayo, 2 oz cheese, garlic salt.
Tea..made with Truvia sweetener

Snack: 3 boiled eggs

Dinner: Chicken wings (5) made by broiling them and using chicken wing sauce (no sugar in it) or I eat them without the sauce and just put garlic salt and chives on them. Zuccini sauteed in butter. Club soda with lime.

Dessert: mock danish..made with the other 2 oz. cream cheese for my cheese intake for the day. I use Truvia sweetner.

OTHER MENU:

Breakfast: 4 boiled eggs

Snack: celery sticks with a litle ranch dressing.

Lunch: chicken wings made as listed above...no side dish.

Snack: String cheese. Tea.

Dinner: Steak no sauce. Zuchinni sauteed in butter.

I drink my required water but, I just do not know why I am not losing a lot of weight. Any ideas??

Thanks!

Hi everyone,
I know that I've been posting a lot more usual than normal lately ... I'm really needing some support and I don't really know what kind. I've done atkins for 3 years and gone from 265 lbs to 146 lbs (well .. between 138 and 146 lbs ...) I'm happy with my success but feeling discouraged about my inability to stay lower - i.e. keep to 143 or 140 lbs. However, that is only a secondary concern at this point.

I have fibromyalgia and I know that it has to be interfering with my weight loss/maintaining (I'm more trying to maintain at the 140 lbs range if I can). I have been in "remission" all summer, fall, etc until last weekend.
I am taking my M.Ed in Special education and went to a course that is being housed at one of the schools. The school district had turned off the heat for the building over the weekend. Needless to say it was atleast 0 degrees celcius in the building and it triggered me into an "attack" of sorts. I actually hda to leave early...

Anyways - long story short, I have been in pain ever since and now TOM has come and I'm feeling just miserable. I know I'm not going to be successful anymore if it doesn't stop - unfortunately, my doctor can't do much ... I really don't want to take any meds for it ... I never even take advil - I took 4 yesterday! Anyways - I'm not sleeping well either - again a cause for fluid retention ...

First, I just needed to vent - I was also wondering if there were any fybromialgia sufferers who have any advice on the sleep and pain issue... OR other chronic pain people ...

After a couple months of more indulgences (not going off plan exactly, just getting very loose with my WOE, occasional bites of things off plan etc), I've decided its time to quit fooling myself and go back to induction to get on track. I haven't gained any weight but I also haven't lost any weight since late September so I decided to start from scratch. I never imagined how hard it would be to just pick a day and start. Are there any tips for making it as painless as possible? Can I expect induction flu again or is that just for full on carb-riddled bodies? Should I expect my Ketone Strips to work again?
