I was just curious as to what others results have been when using Splenda (or other sweeteners) in brining solution? I want to brine a turkey this year but all the recipes I am running across use sugar as well as salt. I was thinking about substituting the Splenda brown sugar blend but not sure if it would affect the overall turn out of the turkey or even give it a funny after taste. Or I'm thinking about eliminating the sugar all together. Since the turkey is a big part of dinner, I don't want to mess it up.

I am so excited for Thanksgiving to get here, there are so many decadent, low carb options I want to try out.

Here is the recipe I plan on using---Would you substitute the sugar or take it out all together?

Brined Herb-Roasted Turkey

Ingredients:

Turkey
1 12-pound turkey (preferably organic and free-range)

Brine
1 cup sugar
1 cup kosher salt
1 bunch fresh sage
1 bunch fresh thyme
3 tablespoons cracked black pepper

Turkey Stock
Turkey giblets, neck, and other trimmings
1 onion, sliced
1 stalk celery, sliced
1 carrot, sliced
2 cloves garlic, sliced
Coarse salt and freshly ground pepper
4 cups chicken stock

Herb Butter (Make Day of Roasting)
8 tablespoons (one stick) softened unsalted butter
1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon chopped shallot
1 teaspoon chopped garlic
1/4 cup chopped parsley
1 tablespoon chopped chives
1 tablespoon chopped sage
1 tablespoon chopped thyme
1 teaspoon chopped tarragon

Roasting the Turkey
1 onion, sliced
4 stalks celery, sliced
2 carrots, sliced
Coarse salt and freshly ground pepper
4 to 5 cups turkey stock
1 cup dry white wine
3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons flour
Instructions

Brine
One to two days before serving, place 1 gallon of water in a large stock pot with the sugar, salt, sage, thyme, and pepper. Bring to a boil, and simmer for 10 minutes. Strain and chill.

Place the turkey in a deep casserole or roasting pan that is large enough to allow most (preferably all) of the turkey to be submerged in the brine. Cover the casserole with plastic wrap and refrigerate. Turn the turkey in the brine every few hours if it is not totally submerged. (You can also place the turkey and brine in a large plastic bag placed in a bowl for support, if you do not have a large enough container.) Let steep for 24 to 36 hours.

Stock
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Cut the last two joints off each turkey wing, leaving the wing drumstick on the bird, and put them in a small roasting pan. Roast until the skin is well browned, 45 minutes to an hour. Put the roasted wings in a soup pot with the giblets and the neck, setting the liver aside. Add the vegetables, 1 teaspoon salt, several grinds of pepper, chicken stock, and 3 cups cold water. Bring to a boil and simmer over medium-low heat, partially covered, for 2 to 3 hours, until the meat is falling from the bones and the turkey gizzard is very tender. Poach the turkey liver in the stock for 6 to 7 minutes; remove, cover, and refrigerate. Strain the stock into a bowl or jug, reserving the giblets, and refrigerate. There should be 5 to 6 cups.

Herb Butter
On serving day, place all the ingredients for the herb butter in a food processor and blend. Transfer to a small pastry bag or Baggie, and set aside.

Cooking the Turkey
About 5 hours before serving time, remove the turkey from the refrigerator. Lift it out of the brine, and rinse off under fresh cold water. Dry the bird with paper towels.

Slide a small rubber spatula between the skin and the breast meat to separate them. Pipe half of the herb butter under the skin of both breasts from the cavity opening, spreading the butter evenly over the whole breast area with the fingertips. Rub the remaining herb butter all over the outside of the bird.

Fill the body cavity and the neck cavity loosely with stuffing. Truss the bird loosely with butcher's twine and season with salt and pepper. Spread the sliced vegetables over the bottom of a large roasting pan and lay the turkey on top. Add a cup of stock to the pan.

About 4 hours before serving time, preheat the oven to 375 degrees, and position the rack in the lower half of the oven.

Put the turkey in the oven and roast for 1 1/2 hours. Check to see if the turkey is browning evenly, and turn the pan, adding more stock if it gets low. If the turkey is browning too fast, fold a 30-inch length of aluminum foil in half, then fold it loosely again and set it lightly over the turkey breast for the remainder of the roasting time. Reduce the temperature to 325 degrees. Roast the turkey for another 1 1/2 hours or until the internal temperature of the thigh is 165 degrees on an instant-read thermometer (5) and the juices run clear yellow with no tinge of pink when the thigh meat is pierced. If the turkey is not too brown, remove the foil for the last 1/2 hour of cooking. Take the bird out of the oven, and let it rest in a warm place for about 30 minutes while making the gravy.

no celiac but severely allergic to wheat and rye, allergic to corn and rice and mildly allergic to crab tuna shrimp and barely. That was round one, soy is on the next round....Dr and I assume it will pop as bad as wheat.

Thyroid chasing is on hold since they found a large fibroid tumor on my uterus and a dermoid on my tube and a cystotoma something on my right ovary. took two shots of dilaudid plus toradol and two doses of xanax to get me out of the hospital....and then still had to go straight to the pharmacy to get my pain meds filled. Not the first time I have had 'female' issues, even had a tubal to help when i was 21...So I am prolly looking at total hysterectomy.

The **** of the matter on sept 23 2009 the gyn gave me a clean bill of health told me to seek a shrink and get on mood stabilizers....the woman is so fired and I am filing a complaint, petty I know but the hell I've been through I would not wish on my worst worst enemy. If she had just listened and not called me crazy she might have done a ultrasound and gotten me into surgery before the pain was so bad it took meds stronger than morphine to stop me from crying out in pain.

Sure Yes I have panic disorder that spontaneously appeared in June....but I am not bipolar and they think its my falling progesterone causing the severe and debilitating 911 call inducing panic attacks. The progesterone which the dumb gyn refused to test for....Thankfully for that ambulance ride they found the tumor et al.....

Thanks to everyone whos answered questions and tried to help....I am on the right path now, lets hope this gyn surgeon is a decent one or I will fire his ass too.

never let them tell you its in your head when you know its not, keep fighting until you find the problem..the medical world is so messed up.....

MUCH love my lo carb bothers and sisters.

Anyone experience pain in the middle of the back while pursuing LC diets? Before the diet, I used to have chronic back pains in the usual place, i.e., near the bottom of my spinal cord. Now, I'm having back pains in the middle of the back right about where the ribs start (frontal that is). Is that where the kidneys are? It comes on whenever I stand for a little.

I'm a month into my LC diet and have lost 20-25 pounds. The middle back pain is sometimes accompanied by occasional dizziness when I try to get out of my seat or stand. It doesn't seem to be hypoglycemia; I've checked my levels and I'm normal (85-100). I consume about 85-110 carbs per day and 1600 calories. I'm a month into this, so in theory, I should be used to this level of carbs. Before LC, I suspect I was consuming 500+ carbs and 2000 calories.

I am being repetitive here but just case you haven't read my other posts:

I was told I had hyperglycemia several months ago with a random blood glucose of 198. I got my butt in gear immediately and cut out all sugar and high carbs, I continued to exercise 6 days a week (I'd already started that) and I lost 25 lbs.

Fast forward to when I finally felt comfortable going in last week to get my fasting glucose, fasting insulin and A1C done....My fasting glucose was 103, fasting insulin was 5 and A1C was 5.2.

The A1C is good. My fasting glucose is prediabetic though very low in that range. However I though lowish fasting insulin was good. Mine is within normal range but low. However the Dr said that that showed I was actually faster on the progression towards diabetes than if it was higher. I tried to go home and look that up and I can't figure out what he is talking about. I can only find stuff that says my fasting insulin is good in that range. That the fasting insulin is lower in people who exercise regularly etc. But I know that that's what the Dr said. I repeated what he said in the form of a question to confirm that I understood him.

So can anyone by any chance explain to me why my fasting insulin of 5 indicates that I am farther to diabetic than just prediabetic?

I wish it would be over already or I could just hide out at home with a good movie but I agreed months ago to host it at my home with my Mom, during a time a was backsliding. Now I am back on my WOE (Atkins) I am at my lowest weight ever since I was a preteen, I have tons of energy, I am happy all the time, I enjoy my meals and my coffee in the morning is euphoric. It sounds like theres no chance of falling off the wagon...but either my family is over weight (so I feel like I'm rubbing my WOE in their face) or of course theres my 5-something 98lb sister in law, 2 years older than me, beautiful happy-go-lucky-high-on-life-a-always-happy eat ANYTHING including cake and candy including regular meals everyday and not gain an ounce...wears the same jeans she wore in middle school. It makes me so mad, I begin to think...if she can eat that way and stay so thin why can't I? Then I eat and gain 5lbs, feel awful, gassy, tired...my stomach gets HUGE within hours. I went off on Halloween, when my sister was over because I didn't want to appear obsessive or fun-lacking during her visit but I got so sick by that evening I curled up in a ball and wondered if i'd die. Then packing on 7lbs in that coming week...I really did feel like a failure!
Now that I'm back I REFUSE to do that to myself again. I want to be happy and healthy while my family visits not fat and grouchy. But I must have support. On the Holiday for sure, and the days leading up when my Mom fills the house with junk food to be prepared. She is due to arrive tomorrow evening.
Do any Atkins dieters love to text on here? I would appreciate a buddy I could text for support, even at the dinner table with the slice of pie heading towards my mouth. I'm a text addict, anybody not weak willed would be fabulous.
Online support helps a lot, too.
Thanks!

Hello everyone! It's probably been almost a year or so since I posted last, but a lot has been going on with me (complications in the family, huband's return from deployment, etc.) So now I'm really trying to get back on track with everything because these last few months has had my body and eating habits all out of whack again! But anyhow, I'm going to try to pick up where I left off with Kimmer/Stillman's WOE and callanetics to tone up in the process of weight loss. I had gotten down to 123 which was great, but now I'm back up to 143 which has been my highest in about 5 years or so  It's really bothering me because I've not been able to fit in any of my clothes, in fact, I keep having to buy new pants because I just couldn't put the fork down. Oddly enough, I eat meat all the time... where I'm messing up is the excess bread, because I rarely eat fruits or veggies.. if I'm lucky I might have A serving of each during any one day. In the mean time, I've been taking diethylproprion to help with the cravings, which has done some for me, but apparently not enough.

Has anyone taken weight loss meds or OTC meds for appetite suppression in combination with such a strict WOE? I don't plan to overdo the exercise as I once did when I worked at Curves AND did diet pills so I don't feel like it's going to put a lot of strain on my body. But until I get into ketosis or when I feel like I might want to cheat, I might want some backup. Do you believe this is healthy, yes or no, and why? Eventually I would love to be able to do everything all natural. I have just been a binge eater for so long and it seems like I'm on a constant binge... I eat roughly 2500-3000 cals a day and that's just a guess.

Also I would like to know if you guys have any recs. on what helped you get into the program and what motivated you to stick with it until goal or past! I need all the help I can get! Thanks so much for taking the time to look :) Hope everyone's having a fantastic Friday!

    * Reading the Acceptable Foods List for Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 3. That’s your very delicious cheat sheet.
* Understand Net Carbs
* Use the handy Carb Counter in combination with the Acceptable Foods Lists and easily keep track of your Net Carbs

2. Be sensible, not obsessive, about portions.

We don’t make you count calories – we just ask you to use a little common sense. You probably could guess that too many calories will slow down your weight loss, but here’s a surprise – too few will slow down your metabolism. Start with these recommendations as a minimum and adjust based on your results.

Calorie Recommendations:*

* Women should shoot for a range of 1500 - 1800 calories a day
* Men should shoot for a range of 1800 - 2000 calories per day

* Calorie recommendations vary depending on your size, gender, age and metabolism.

3. Eat regularly. That’s right, no starvation.

Regardless of the phase, you should be eating three regular-sized meals with two snacks every day.

4. Enjoy sensible snacks, even on-the-go.

Don’t worry, “snack” is a good word on Atkins – we’ll show you how to stay satisfied between meals and of course, you can enjoy Atkins bars and shakes from day one.

5. Enjoy eating – at home, at a restaurant, wherever.

Other diets inflict a fear of eating. Many require you to eat predetermined expensive, pre-packaged meals. Not Atkins. We’ll teach you how to choose the right foods, at home, in a restaurant, on vacation, anywhere. You’ll make the right choices and stay on track.

6. Drink more water.

It’s really true – more water encourages your body to let go of water weight – plus it’s just plain healthy, so drink at least eight glasses a day.

7. Remember your supplements.

Take a daily multivitamin with minerals, including potassium, magnesium and calcium, but without iron. Take your Omega 3’s and 6’s every day and a fiber supplement if necessary.

8. Up your activity.

Of course, there are lots of benefits to activity/exercise, but in the case of Atkins, we believe more activity means better results, and getting to your goal, faster.

9. Let family and friends support you.

You know they want you to reach your goals. So talk it up, let the important people in your life know how you’re doing and feeling. And if you need some encouragement, don’t beat around the bush – just ask.

10. Track your weight loss success and your health success.

It’s a great idea to visit your healthcare professional and get a check up before you start Atkins – and a follow-up when you reach your goal weight. You might just be amazed at how much healthier you’ve gotten.

Hello, I have just completed my fourth month of low carb bliss. For some reason, during the first three months my exercise was practically non-existent. WHY? Did I hate to exercise? NO! Was I not used to exercising? NO!

Hello, I have just completed my fourth month of low carb bliss. For some reason, during the first three months my exercise was practically non-existent. WHY? Did I hate to exercise? NO! Was I not used to exercising? NO!
I cannot answer why.... During those first three months I lost 28 pounds and I was HAPPY!

Well, my weight loss started to slow. It was still there, but s l o w. Maybe it had to do with a few extra carbs I was throwing in here and there? I also noticed that even though I was getting smaller, some of my parts were getting softer from no activity.

Throughout this journey my energy level has been through the roof!! So I decided - hmmm, start exercising again and see what happens.

WOW! It has kick started my weight loss again like I cannot believe! I am now at a 36 pound loss and happy as a little lark.

I would like to encourage you - if you are not exercising, seriously consider it. Even just a day or two a week at first will make a difference. Then you can slowly add onto that.

I FEEL GREAT!!

I love all the support and suggestions that are found on this board!! I have learned many things and I thought by posting this message it may give at least one person the extra push to start exercising again like I did. IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE! :)

This go-round, I've been quit from alcohol for three weeks and quit from carbs for one.

Just induction levels...one salad at lunch and steamed veggies at dinner, proteins and fats fill in the rest.

I'm happy to report I have zero appetite for either alcoholic poison or junky carbs. I feel clean and clear.

I tend to be a "repeat quitter" with pretty much everything, unfortunately.

I think people should never stop trying, and never stop believing.

I feel certain lc is the way to go for alcohol problems.

Hi folks…
It felt like Christmas this morning...we have a friend moving and I'm cooking steak for lunch Sunday.

Arrived at Sam's Club before 8am this morning (business membership) and chatted with the lady at the meat counter while I bought 4 packs of steak that are reduced because the sell by date is tomorrow...at a total for 13 pounds of steak for $31.41 or about 8 meals worth of steak at an average $3.92 meal...and 8 of those are full 1 pounders!

2 packages of London Broil (1'' thick) and 2 packages of 4-Top Sirloins each (1.25'' thick). Brought them home and put them up in freezer bags and they are solidifying as I type...

Total ''splurge'' averaged out at 1/2 pound on each London Broil and a full pound apiece on the Top Sirloins...

I found out that if I call ahead, they will custom cut steaks to my thickness (so I can get 1 3/4'' thick ones) with only 30-60 minute lead time! What a great service that will be...

I find it so much easier to properly cook thick steaks without drying them out versus thin ones...

So I've decided it's time to make the move - on to OWL! I'm feeling good about how much weight I've lost, that my body looks better, and I think it's time to move forward with the program or I'll never learn how to make Atkins a true way of life, right?

So that means I'll be lurking around this end of the forum more :) When I started induction I stuck mostly to posts there since I didn't want to flood myself with LC info I wasn't ready for, but now that I'm 'graduating' I'll be getting around to threads in this section. I haven't had a chance to read much yet but as I've seen some people have been a bit nervous about this phase... and me too! The guidelines aren't as strict, which in one way actually makes it tougher!

I do intend to follow the ladder, so that means a week of more veggies - I'm looking forward to having a bit of tomato in my salad again! - but in general, any of you experienced LCers have any helpful tips for the transition from induction to Atkins OWL? Anything that may have happened to you that may have shocked you? What should I be prepared for?

Thanks and looking forward to the onward journey...

Hi everyone!
I was wondering if I'm the only one here, but I have a really hard time spending money on things that coud help with my health and well-being. I am a newer teacher (graduated last December) and while I'm making more money now, I have trouble spending the money on things that might help me with my health and well-being.

I seem to have no problem buying lc choices for food (I think because deep down I know that I have to with so many food allergies), but I have trouble spending on other things. For example, I need to get excercising and have looked at the Wii + Wii Fit for forever - I really want one, but when push comes to shove never get around to buying one ...

Same goes for wool socks - hahaha (I know there is no real comparison in price between the two) but the cost around $23 for the Smart Wool socks here in Canada - it's gettng cold and I have sensitivity (extreme) to cold. It took me over a year to buy some...

Anyways - I'm still thinking about the Wii Fit because I know I need to work on my balance, etc. (I have fibromyalgia and hypermobile joints - so I sorta flop every which way for posture - not good for pain), but can't seem to bring myself to buy one... Should I just loosen the purse strings and get one OR am I being reasonable?

Uh ... Yes, those are cans of fish - sardines and herring.
Good Morning ...

If one of my kids had called this morning at 8:55 and asked "What are you up to?"
I would have had to answer "Taking a picture of canned fish." lol.
I'm thinking that they would not have even batted an eyelash at that answer.

Actually what prompted it was that fish was on my mind since Doris mentioned it.
(Eating fish four times a week.)

I know I eat too much. Those cans hold 3.5 servings and when I eat I eat all of it.
(See what I mean about moderation? If I open a can - that's it.)
I probably average five servings of fish a week ... but only on two or three days.

I  tilapia, flounder, tuna steaks, smoked white fish, shell fish ... and canned fish.
How about you?
.

I found sugar craving suppliments (glutamine & chromium & citrimax) at my health food store, so I got those. And then I have been feeling overwhelmed and stressed for the last several years & my tummy fat & weight gain shows major cortosal issues & my eating has been way way way out of control! So I also started taking Super b12. Since taking these suppliments my life has changed!!! My eneregy is through the roof. I have more self control than ever due to not having intense sugar cravings & my outlook of day to day issues and life as a whole has greatly improved!!! The sugar pills are from Natures Plus. So, just a word about something that is working miracles for me in hopes that this might help someone else.

Since she has lost weight her breasts sag really low and my heart breaks for her because usually when you breasts get that way you have had kids and your older. not 16. I don't say anything to her but when she is home without a bra on you can see how they sag and i don't know what to do to help her. She mentioned it the other day and I acted like it was nothing but honestly it hurts to see her wondering why her boobs look this way. Will they tighten up? I feel odd asking this here. I just dont know what to do. She should be 16 with an older womans body

I have been here for a year. A YEAR of (mostly) low-carbing, and I FINALLY tried some oopsie rolls. They are great! They taste like bread. I had one w/ butter and garlic salt--yum! Right now I'm eating a BLT w/ avocado using another oopsie roll. Yum, yum, yum! (And I'm not a huge bread person...maybe that's why I'd never tried them.)

Just wanted to encourage people to try them. :)

*****

Oopsie Rolls (Gluten-Free Buns)
Recipe from cleochatra's blog

3 large eggs
pinch of cream of tartar (1/8 tsp)
3 ounces cream cheese (Do not soften)

Preheat oven to 300 degrees F.

Separate the eggs and add cream cheese to the yolks. Use a mixer to combine the ingredients together. In a separate bowl, whip egg whites and cream of tartar until stiff (if you're using the same mixer, mix the whites first and then the yolk mixture). Using a spatula, gradually fold the egg yolk mixture into the white mixture, being careful not to break down the whites. Spray a cookie sheet with non-stick spray and spoon the mixture onto the sheet, making 6 mounds. Flatten each mound slightly.

Bake about 30 minutes (You want them slightly softer, not crumbly). Let cool on the sheet for a few minutes, and then remove to a rack and allow them to cool. Store in a loosely open sack and allow to rest on the counter before use (otherwise they might be too moist). Can be frozen.

Notes: If you are making these to be savory (for burgers) you can add dry mustard and dill or other seasonings to the yolk mixture. If you want a more sweet roll, add a very small amount of stevia natural sweetener to the yolk mixture.

Makes 6@ about 85 calories a piece, >1 carb per
Induction Friendly, Gluten-Free

I have been on Armour for quite awhile and I am up to 3 grains/day.

My doctor (he listened!) agreed to switch me to Synthroid/Cytomel next month since even though my labs are fine I am not doing very well AND the obtaining Armour issues.

Right now I am completing my last month of Armour and have added 5mcg of Cytomel in the morning.

Since my doctor and I are both new to the Cytomel combo does anyone know what should my doses be next month of the Synthroid and Cytomel to compare to Armour? (I am sure he is researching it but I want to know my options too, lol).

Thanks for your help!

Now I know it's not blood, I know it is supposed to be mostly protein, but I've been throwing it away.

Is there some reasonable use for it? I might be able to collect about a cup a week. Maybe freeze it and keep adding to it? But what would I use it for? I don't usually make recipes... just cook whole foods as they are.

I usually keep a little on the plate to dip my slices in.

5g fiber.

Hi. A little over 3 mo ago I went into the ER having an anxiety attack. The ER Dr told me I had hyperglycemia and that I need to go in right away and get my fasting glucose taken. It was 198 at the ER.

I did not go in right away. I can't afford to get a diabetes diagnosis. We have to get new insurance in the spring and you are flat out uninsurable in my state with diabetes. So I have spent the last 3 mo low carbing. I have been mostly following the Rosedale diet but recently learned about Dr Bernstein and bought his book.

I went in for labs last week. I see my Dr tomorrow to follow up. But the nurse called and I asked over the phone about my A1C and Fasting Glucose.

My A1C was 5.2 and my fasting glucose was 103 which is prediabetic. I really would have expected a lower fasting number after low carbing for 3 mo, losing 25 lbs and exercising 6 days a week. BUT I have no idea how bad my blood sugars were before I started low carbing.

I had a baby nearly 3 years ago. At that time my blood sugars in pregnancy were normal. I have never had a high blood sugar number till recently. I just wonder how fast type 2 can come on. I hadn't really had a check up over the last 2 years though.

I am only 32 yo. I am pretty sure my mom is diabetic but she is in denial and not treating it. Her dr has called her "prediabetic" for years but she has avoided a diagnosis out of fear and that it will make her uninsurable if she has a diagnosis. That's my family history as far as diabetes goes.

I am just so frustrated. After reading Dr Bernsteins' book and the numbers he recommends my fasting number seems awful, though clearly it could be worse. I guess I was just really hoping it would be within normal range. If I keep low carbing and exercising can I expect it to keep coming down?

I just found this recipe on Allrecipes, and wondered if you think low carb ice cream would work for this. Here is the recipe.

INGREDIENTS;

1 and 3/4 cups pumpkin puree
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp ground cinnamon

3/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

DIRECTIONS;

preheat oven to 425 degrees F Place ice cream near the wzrm oven.

Whisk together the eggs. Stir in pumpkin puree, sugar, salt, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg.Mixin soft ice cream until smooth. Pour into 2 9 inch pie shells

Bake for 15 minutes in preheated oven. Reduce temp to 360 degrees and bake an additional 30-40 minutes or until filling is set.

It says it uses the ice cream in lieu of the evaporated milk. This would be easy to low carb if the ice cream will work. What do you think? Julie

I know you're going through a tough time right now, and I thought this might cheer you up:

Last night I made the Atkins Meatloaf and Just Like Stuffed Baked Potatoes from your website (of which I am a HUGE fan, BTW). Both were delicious, and my family gobbled them up...

...including my little 18-month-old daughter. She's going through a "picky" stage, and I have a hard time getting her to eat a lot. But she kept asking for "More!" of your food!

Thanks so much for your awesome recipes. They make this WOE so much fun!

The weather is gloomy, school is just a drag, and my energy called in sick. I'm driving in my car towards a fork in the road: one route leads home where I want to go curl up by the fire and sleep.. The other route leads to the gym, where I had planned to do a solid hour of cardio this morning. I'm arguing with myself, trying to justify that my body "needs a day of rest" or "i'll just eat less today." In a fleeting moment of strength, I make the decision to go to the gym. I finished my hour's worth of cardio and I feel FANTASTIC, am now sipping a hot, tall chai tea and munching on a cinnamon flax muffin. I feel empowered and invincible.

It is the little victories like this that will lead to lifelong success! Sometimes we don't give ourselves enough credit for getting in 20 minutes of cardio when you'd rather do anything else, or for turning down a cookie tray at the office. We easily forget how epic these decisions can really be, and can collectively become discouraged at this lifestyle.

Challenge yourself:
List one small victory that you have claimed in the past week. It can be anything, small or gigantic, that was a difficult hurdle that you climbed over.
Inspire yourself!

so for anyone else who's having a turkey-day or christmas pitch-in at work this year - just so's you know, it is VERY easy to stay on plan!

we had ours today and there was SO much food that everyone brought and I stuck with the meat (turkey & ham) - deviled eggs - vegee tray (radishes, cauliflower) - cheeseball - green beans. it was yummy! I stayed far away from the corn casserole, the sweet potato casserole (which looked divine, but no!), the rolls, the mashed taters...

and the dessert spread - there were SOOOO many - but I brought a sugar-free low-carb pumpkin spice cake (must be past nuts/seeds rung 3)
Low Carb Sugar Free Pumpkin Spice Cake - - FabulousFoods.com and it was YUMMMY! (i actually made them in small personal serving muffin sizes). And I didn't touch ANY of the other desserts. I wanted to - i wholeheartedly admit it, lol - but nope! didn't touch anything else. :p

so anyone else who's having one - make sure to take your own dessert! that way you can "indulge" with everyone else but make sure you're staying on plan! :)

I've been on 88mcg synthroid for eight years...she will not change it or add any T3. Will not consider change to natural thyroid. She says everything looks good and the reason my hair is breaking and I can't lose weight is because of stress and poor diet. Wants to refer me to a dietician. Will not check my hormones because my cycle is normal.

I am thinking of trying something OTC until I can get a doc to treat my symptoms instead of only labs. Has anyone had any kind of benefit from nutri-meds or something similar?

DANDR in Spanish?

Does anyone know if DANDR is available in Spanish?

My friend is warming up to the idea of low carb, so I want her to get the book, but she is in Spain. A Spanish edition would be great since, they often try to adapt the recipes to foods available in the country etc.

Currently, everything that we buy is organic unless we can't find it organic (some spices, teas, shirataki...)

I am wondering how this will affect our health. Does anybody know?

Thanks
