Exercise with disabilities
My wrists don't bend.
My elbows don't fully straighten. Have had toe fusions - all of them. Had knee replacements. Exercising is difficult for me. I cannot do too many of the weight exercises and because of my feet and elbows, doing aerobics is rough. Can anyone recommend a slow paced, easier aerobic DVD? Joyce Vedral, modified, I can do as far as weight training, but I need cardio without joining a gym. I cannot walk distances, much less jog or run. I tried Richard Simmon's wheelchair workout...but wasn't helpful at all. |

I don't have access to a bike and no room for one in my tiny condo.
When I DID have the opportunity to go to the gym I absolutely hated the bike. I could handle it and get my heart rate up, but to sit for even 15 minutes with my favorite music blasting was torture. I much preferred weights where I did something different every minute or so - which is why if I could find a more slow paced "aerobic" exercise I might be able to be more motivated. |

Give Callanetics a whirl. You do the exercises to your ability, never forcing anything. Kneeling exercises can be done while standing. There is no impact or bouncing around whatsoever. The exercises are very gentle on all your joints. It might work for you.
