Back to walking after running
Hi, I'm fairly new to the forum. I've been doing the c25k running program til the end of week 5, but now my knee is protesting too much at the longer runs, so I'm trying walking for awhile to see how it works out.
Mostly treadmill due to my schedule at work and shorter daylength, etc. but did about 2.5 miles this morning. Oddly enough, my knee feels fairly ok after it, but I could feel the effects more in my hip. Go figure. At the age of 58, my body never seems to do what I want it to do! |

Hi Islander. I had to give up jogging to save my knees but find quick walking is keeping me fit and healthy. Good for you on the 2.5 miles. Log in here with us and we will keep each other on track. Glad you are here with us!

I hope walk away the pounds will count in the beginning. I have a sore hip joint and a bad knee cap, so I have to re-start really gently. So I started out with a one mile walk.

Walk away the pounds is great Rose1. We like any kind of exercise here! Hope your hip/knee heal up quickly.
Lynn -I can do an 18 minute mile but it is a real challenge for me. I'm usually at 19 minutes, 21 if I take the dog along and she is a great walker! It's all good - I just want to keep my joints moving, carry my weights, and get my heart rate up a bit. When I used to jog I did 14 minute miles - I was a very slow jogger lol but it still killed my old knees. Plus 4 for me this morning - got up an hour early as DH had to go into work early so got in an extra mile before work.

Happy New Year to everyone! Nice to "meet" you, Rose and Islander!
I'm hoping to go on a short stroll around the neighborhood this afternoon. But it was 13 degrees when I got up this morning, and still only 18 now, so I'm waiting until it warms up a bit more! But I did go on a New Years Day hike - my usual 5 mile hike with my husband. |

Great job Lynn. I took the dog for a one mile walk after work. It was dark and very cold so we walked fast! I'm off tomorrow so maybe I will head to the park in the daylight but it is still supposed to be below freezing - brrr.

+5 for me today. Got out in the sunshine! Spent the rest of the day packing away decorations. Up and down the attic steps at least 30 times and crawling in the crawl space. I'm pooped too.

I fit in a very short walk on Thursday night, perhaps 1/2 mile due to time issues.
This morning I did 2 miles on the treadmill. My knee is still acting up, so I'm taking it slow. Great going everyone! |

New to this thread.......
I just walked 2 miles in 30 minutes. Is that good? I felt like I was doing a "brisk" walk. But should I be able to do it in less time? I haven't "walked" for exercise in about 2 years. January total miles: 4 Last edited by Garden; 01-05-2013 at 08:18 AM.. |
