Welcome Pawley. I have diabetes too. I do find walking helps with my bgs but diet and keeping stress low are even more important for D.
Still no walking as the girls are still here. You guys are right they are a huge workout! They are 3, 6, and10 and keep me hopping! Back to walking tomorrow and now have miles to catch up if I want to make goal this month. |

I did another 5 mile hike on Friday, but I've been very inconsistent this week, which is not how I wanted to start the new year! My daughter has been very sick, and I've had days where I was feeling yucky, like I was getting it, and then I'd feel fine again the next day, and then sick, and then well. It's been weird. So, anyway, only 10 miles total this past week, and I didn't do Slow Burn at all. Bummer. But I'll try to be more consistent this coming week.

Hubby walked with me today. Thought he would slow me down, but didn't - did it in 30 minutes. Hoping he will walk with me at night this week. |

Garden - I love walking with DH. Our schedules don't often match up but when they do it is sheer pleasure. We have such great talks while walking. I think Greta walks with her DH too. Makes the walks so much fun!

Did 30 min Kickboxing today and pushed the little one 1/2 mile in the tricycle. It wasn't all that cold (50s) but it was very very windy. I don't mind but I didnt want the baby to get another earache.
Greta: Hope you and your daughter getting to feel better soon!! Exercise in 2013: 30 min Kickboxing Miles walked in 2013: 2.5 miles ;-) |

+3 this morning before work. Mild today so maybe I'll try for a mile with the dog after work unless one of the kids shows up for dinner.

Good morning!! I hope you don't mind if I jump in as well!!
I have been trying for the last year or two to find an exercise I can stick with. I had been trying to go Callanetics (live how it relaxes me!) but I find it's a bit too boring for me (sorry Callanetics guys). So, I am going to do Leslie Sansone's programs. I have 2 of her tapes (3 mile abs and yoga). I also found her on you tube for on the go!! She is so up beat, motivating and just a happy person!! I began this morning with only doing 30 min of the 3 mile abs (I don't have the bands she uses though) which is 1.5 miles. This evening I would like to try the yoga for relaxation before bed. My goal is to do this daily and at the least 3 times per week. Not sure if I may alternate walking with yoga on alternate days. Any advice on that? Also, should I also post in the Leslie Sansone's thread? Thanks for the support here!! Your posts are what motivated me!!!

Hi Kathy. Glad you have joined us. Leslie's tapes are great for in house walking especially in bad weather. I think evening yoga is great too as it doesn't hype me up before trying to sleep but is relaxing.
Didn't know there was a Leslie thread lol but please keep posting here. The more the merrier. We aren't fussy about the type or duration of exercise just like to support each other and share a bit. |

Thank you for the warm welcome, Shunsweets!!
I am so excited to be doing this!! I am finding although I'm a bit tired today, I think that walk this morning is keeping me going!!! I will try to link the Leslie Sansone thread. I'm trying to do it with my phone. LOL Leslie Sansone/walking check in I'm eating a huge salad right now for my lunch, then back to work. I may try to go to the Y this evening and walk the treadmill for 30 min then relax in the pool for a bit. Thanks again for the warm welcome!! |

Thanks for the link Kathy. Looks like another friendly group.
Just got home from work and took the dog on her brisk walk around the long block - a little over 1 mile but I count it as 1 as the dear, old dog slows me down a bit but sure makes me feel more comfortable when I walk after dark! |

January total miles: 8
Well hubby did not want to walk with me tonight. So I spent 1/2 an hour on the treadmill. The distance info on it does not work, but I felt that I was going at the same pace as I do when I'm outside. I don't know if I covered the 2 miles as I do outside, but I gave myself the credit for it. ![]() |

Went to the Y this evening and did another 30 min (1.25 miles) on the treadmill. That puts me at 2.75 miles for today! And that isn't including all the walking and going up and down a ton of stairs at work!! I think I need a pedometer!! I feel soo proud! And I had energy all day!!
Going to do another 30 min (if I can I'll do an hour) of Leslie Sansone in the morning. I have a very busy day tomorrow, so I have to do it in the morning. Off to bed!! |

I am sure your dog is so happy to get a walk! We have 4 boxers, but it's been too cold to take them for walks. Even with coats, they get cold easily. We give them lots of exercise in the yard running. In warmer months, we take them for nice long (leisurely) walks. |

Good to see you Heather!
Nice treadmill work work Garden! GettingHealthy - so glad you are feeling strong! Good to spread it throughout the day. My dog is a standard poodle. She has Addison's disease so only lasts about 45 minutes walking but she is very quick and very well trained. Stays right at my side and matches my pace without any stops. I love her and wish she was healthier so we could take long walks together. Hi Greta. Love those 5 mile hikes! Ah Lynn - weight work is not cheating - wonderful exercise. It is all good! Plus 3 for me this morning.

newbie here
just wanted to say hello, introduce myself and hopefully find myself in the midst of a supportive group of gals....so far so good...whew!
I'm 53, never had to diet, never wanted to diet and probably never will diet...and I promise to resist it every step of the way. lol what I do love to do is walk. used to walk all the time until I got promoted and all walking ground to a halt. what I'm here for is some support to get back walking and feeling good about myself. oh and I figure I have about 20lbs to lose but will start with the 10 I have recently put on due to quitting smoking. we all have to start somewhere. |
