Thanks Lynn but I won't be walking today or tomorrow. DH is off and the grandkids are on their way here!
So I am cooking instead of walking. Kinda defeats the purpose of all that exercise lol. |

No walking again today. Took the grandkids to a Christmas party and out to lunch. Looking forward to their parents arrival in a few hours to pick them up. They are wearing me out but in the very best of ways!

Hi,
The holidays are near and instead of making a new year's reservation I rather make a lifestyle change. I have tried traditional cardio, ttapp, callanetics, etc, but due to a bad knee and even worse back I think walking is the only workout I can do now. Did anyone do a walking boot camp schedule to help them really lose weight and meet their weight loss goals? If so, which one. I have an old 2000 vhs tape of Leslie Sansone 1 mile and 2 mile walk video. Does any one else have any other suggestions? I would really appreciate the help. Thanks. Coop |

Hi Coop!
I lost my weight with diet alone, and really only started exercising regularly once I was at maintenance weight, so I'm sorry but I can't help advise you with regard to walking and weight loss. But I did want to encourage you: I have back problems, and my husband has knee and ankle problems, and we are both finding that walking is really helping us to rehabilitate those injuries! I really believe that the human body was designed to walk, and while it may not be "vigorous" exercise, it is tremendously effective, beneficial exercise! So I hope that you'll join us, and I hope that someone else can help you on the weight loss question.

Welcome Coop. I did walk while I lost my initial weight (only 15 pounds) and I think it helped me stay toned during the loss but even more I agree with Greta it is just good, safe exercise. I always had minor injuries when I tried other forms of exercise but then again I am truly a klutz so walking works best for me. I have used Leslie's DVD's, walking CD's, and do both indoor and outdoor walking. Anything that gets us moving is great!
Plus 3 for me today. Grandkids safely home and enjoyed their visit. I will see them next on Christmas day - hard to believe the holidays are almost here!

Hello Ladies,
Thanks for the encouragement and helpful advice. I wanted to do something because I know due to my obesity I will have loose skin issues and I wanted to do what I can so it will not look so bad. I went from full-time employment to part-time employment and lost my insurance as a result. So, without insurance I know reconstructive surgery is not an option. So for now I'll do LS and watch my calories until I am stronger. Thanks again and happy holidays. Oh, I just re-read my post I meant resolution not reservation. Coop |

Good for you Lynn. I admire that you do weightlifting!
I hate doing weights but do carry my 3lb hand weights when I walk just to keep my arms a little toned. |

Shunsweets,
I have to tell you how I got involved.. My aerobic instructor was trying to raise money for her kids to go to Disney with a dance group... the judges were from "so you think you can dance?".. she had a special for $50- you got 5 30 minute weight training classes... I did 5 classes and I liked it so much I did another 5... and so did alot of people... I wrote down the machine and weights I used, and I go now and I am quite hooked... but I do need the aerobic part, and the walking too...and the scale is going down... I try and do something everyday... ![]() Hope everyone had a good week-end.. Lynn 63 years young size 14 wanting to be a size 12.. |

Great job Lynn. From everything I've read weightlifting is a very good exercise - helps maintain muscle mass as we age, burns off blood glucose, and makes us look toned. The best I can do is to carry my hand weights and do punches and overhead lifts as I walk. I used to use ankle weights as well but my knees started hurting so I stopped those. Good for you for helping the kids dance group as well!
Hi Greta, Coop, Glamour, and Kaimi! How's the walking going? Plus 3 for me this morning. Very foggy. |

I am so clumsy and uncoordinated, and so afraid of pain, that weightlifting is very intimidating to me! That's why I am drawn to Slow Burn: 1. You can use lighter weights and still get great results. 2. The program is designed to minimize risk of injury. I've hurt myself before with forms of exercise that are reputed to be "gentle" and even "rehabilitating" like yoga and pilates. So I'm very scared and skeptical about these things. But I've done very well with Slow Burn so far!
Another bonus is that I can do it at home with minimal equipment. Of course, you can also do it at gym! And I realize that works better for a lot of people. But I kind of like working out at home. I did my usual 5 mile hike with my husband this morning, but what was not usual was that it was 17 degrees outside, and I did it anyway! I really didn't want to, and in the past I would have made the excuse that I'd go later, in the warmest part of the day (and then probably found other excuses not to do it at all!). But I dressed warm and made myself do it, and I was glad I did. |

I wasn't feeling well the last couple of days, but finally got out and did two and a quarter today. I didn't go on the 5 mile hike with my husband, but at least I did something.
Good job, everyone! |

Thanks lovelies for the well wishes. I'm so much better. I have walked so so much that my legs hurt and I love it. In fact I walked so much my pedometer stopped working! I like to think its due to may walking lots, but I may just come to terms with the battery ran out!
Hope you are all well x |

Thank you, Lynn, I am doing much better.
Glad to hear that you are doing well too, Glamour. Shunsweets, tearing it up, as always! Got in a 5 mile hike today, even though the weather was unpleasant. |
