~*~ 30 Minutes a Day .... Let's Make Exercise a Habit ~*~

This is a place for anyone who needs support and encouragement while they are making daily exercise a habit. The type of exercise doesn't matter, as long as it is consistent and lasts at least 30 min., done all at once or in smaller increments. The speed and intensity can be anything on your fitness level.

They say it takes 21 days to establish a habit. Will you join me on this journey to develop a habit that will make us healthier and happier?

I am the first to admit I struggle with exercising consistently. We can support each other and be accountable to each other.

I'm in!!!

What are you going to do today? I am going to walk through the hilly park next door then climb the stairs. I think it is 120-ish stairs.

Hi KT

Nice to have you here

I walked on the treadmill for 48 min. I envy you for being able to walk outside. I miss WA ....sigh. We are in the 100s here in TX.

Hi Eliza! It is so good to see you again.

100 is very hot! Yes, WA is great. We do live in grey overcast most of the time, but I can live with that.

I decided to take the bike to the park instead because it was wet out from rain earlier in the morning. We do have a lot of grey days.

I was surprised that I was able to get up the hills to bike out of the park. I was in gear 1 on the left and gear 3 on the right and going slow as heck, but I didn't fall over and didn't stop anyway.

Someday I hope to be able to bike up the huge hill between here and the grocery store. That will be great!

Great!

I just took lunch - walked a four block circuit including indoor, outdoor, and bus tunnel stairs (@200 I think; will count next time) plus a little uphill walking. @40 minutes.

Great job KT and Mel!

KT, looks like weather is very good for outdoor exercise. I miss the Seattle area and the greenery and beautiful plants. The grey skies, though, really depressed me.

Mel, how long have you been using Bowflex? Is it a good workout? Do you like it? I was looking into it for my DS17.

Yeah, I've noticed that, too. Ive been to a ton of activity calculators just to make sure....it's a good workout that burns a lot of calories......At my weight I need to watch my knees and joints so the bike is a good beginning. I also have a treadmill I enjoy greatly. Living in TX, with the temps and humidity, most exercise may-October has to be indoors.

Oooh, great thread! I was just thinking that instead of trying to jump into what I want to do (kickboxing and power yoga , alternated every other day) for an hour each day 6/days per week, I should start with walking 30 minutes per day. I have to do something! I'm going to do a 30 minute Leslie Sanson tomorrow and each day for the next 21 days. Once I get back into the groove, I will add more.

Waterlilly! Nice to have you here.

I totally hear you....for some of us starting small and expanding after it becomes a habit works better.

Being a recovering perfectionist, it's been difficult For me to accept that even 30 min a day make a difference. I've always been an all-or-nothing kind of girl. That's why I failed countless times at upholding a consistent workout schedule. 30 min is a reasonable amount of time without looking too overwhelming.

I tell myself I will only do 30 min. So far it has worked, and if I feel like it, I decide on the spot to extend the workout.

Hello all!

I'm happy to have this thread as a reminder. I didn't go out for a walk at lunch, so I went to the park next door and walked for about a half hour up and down hills. I'm a little sore from riding the bike uphill a couple of days ago, so I decided just a walk would do for today!

KT, great job

Walking is the most natural of human movements, and from ancestral point of view, highly recommended.

Yes, I agree!

Good job, ladies, on the exercise!

I walked around the zoo for seven hours today, mixed with a lot of standing, of course. Tired!

Happy 4th!!!!!!!!

great thread for the everyday exerciser..I try and do something everyday, but it is getting very hot here in Florida to walk, unless I do it early..

7/1 walked 4 miles
7/2 1 hour aerobic class(gym)
7/3 10 mins treading water
1 mile swim (city pool)
7/4 took day off

I am off to swim this morning... it is cooler than walking outside.

Welcome, Lynn! Glad to have you here and a great job on the exercise!

Living in such a beautiful area, do you walk on the beach? That would be a dream come true for me. I grew up by the water and mornings there are so peaceful and beautiful!

I hear you on the heat. I live in TX and the heat and humidity are overwhelming, not to speak of the substandard air quality..... I exercise indoors.

Thanks all... it is good to be here..

Just came back from my mile swim in the city pool... this time I timed it to see how long it took..(just under an hour)...

Eliza, I do love the beach, but it is so uneven walking... and very hot..the pool felt good...
