Certified Callanetics Instructors post regularly to help with any queries, modifications and intensifications. Callan Pinckney (born 1939/40 as Barbara Biffinger Pfeiffer Pinckney) is an American fitness professional who created the exercise regime known as Callanetics. According to a Time magazine profile from March 1986, Pinckney is a ninth-generation descendant of one of the founding families of the state of South Carolina. She was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia in the midst of old Southern opulence. However, she was also born with physical deformities of her spine and legs which required her to wear steel braces for seven years. She rebelled against the constraints of her social background, and left the United States without completing her college degree for what would become an eleven-year trek around the world. Upon her return in 1972, and faced with more health problems, she developed an exercise regime based on ballet lessons that she had taken as a child. The success of these encouraged her to proselytize her techniques among her friends and eventually to write a book called Callanetics. Although slow to take off, Pinckney's persistence paid off and book sales soared on the back of appearances on the daytime TV circuit, notably on shows hosted by Oprah Winfrey, Sally Jessy Raphael and Phil Donahue. The book went on to become a major bestseller in the fitness genre and spawned a popular video as well. When she was in her 30s, Pinckney changed her first name to Callan on the advice of a New York numerologist. |

3 hours a week- goal!
Happy May!
I just completed my first hour for May and my 3rd from beginning. May goal is to do 12 hours of Callanetics Evolution. I find with each hour my strength is improving and I think my form is better. I am feeling the pulses deeper than my first hour. Feels Great!!! |

Newbie - what is the challenge and which callanetics for quickest thigh results?
Hi Everyone
I'm new to the forum but not to callanetics. I did them on and off for quite a few years in my late 20s/early 30s. They always produced great results and I don't know why I got lost each time - just let life get in the way I suppose and once you're out of the habit it's difficult to start again. I'm now late 40s and struggling big time with flab. I have a holiday in 3 weeks time, which I know is too close for a major transformation but I'm hoping Callan will come to the rescue! I'm not clear how the challenge works though - do we just aim for so many hours of whatever version we have? I have the original and Evolution. I like the familiarity of the old one and I miss Callan in CE (it all seems a bit plastic), but with only 3 weeks to go it has to be whatever works fastest! I'm happy to consider buying a new one too. Biggest problem area is my thighs, closely followed by my arms. Waist/tum isn't fantastic but isn't as dire as the rest. I'm going mainly LC for the next 3 weeks too, though I may add the odd HC day to make it more of a carb cycle. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Many thanks. Just though maybe a photo might help- sorry about the decapitation, but somehow that makes it easier to post. ![]() Last edited by bubbshjs; 05-02-2012 at 06:50 AM.. Reason: add photo |

Thanks for all the positive comments, you're all too kind, but for me this is large (I'm only 5ft tall)!
Did a run thru of Callanetics Evolution tonight - not all the reps so it doesn't count as an hour. Still not as keen on this as the original, but maybe it's just familiarity. I watched Sandra Hanna explain one of the exercises on her youtube page and she's a very good instructor, very clear, but I didn't feel that comes across in CE. Is anyone using just CE and getting great results? I'm still confused by the suggestion of adding weights too as in her book Callan is really anti ankle weights. I'm going to stick my neck out as it were and aim for 5 sessions a week until I go away in 3 weeks time, so 15 sessions. Probably more original 10-in-10 than CE though. Callanetics was always my pre-holiday prep and I used to do it every night, but I'm also doing a bodyweight style program (which takes credit for the before look above) so I won't manage every night this time. Good luck everyone. |

I did just the abs of evo today. Is it okay to do CE everyday?
I know some exercise you should have a day of rest, but I was hoping to speed up the stomach shrinking by doing abs everyday. Logged in some cardio as well today and feeling good! I was going to load up my photos from beginning but I had the resolution too high. So I will take new progress photos and post when I have something to show result wise. Really love this challenge-- it is working! |

hi all, I'm new here
looking to make a commitment to callanetics I have quick callanetics legs and stomach and I want to alternate with those for the month of May i have 10 in 10 but I've never done it. I wanna avoid hip excercises as I have narrow hips and I don't want to lose my hips. Does 10 in 10 have a lot of hipwork? |
