Hit the gym for some upper body then ran 4.08 miles in the trail.

Windy Monday by mrgarak@ptd.net at Garmin Connect - Details

Then it was back to the gym for abs, supplemental exercises and stretching.

Hello everyone,

I haven't run for three weeks as I continued to feel problems in my knee. Despite feeling fine before the run and having no pain when playing squash or using the elliptical, it seemed that once I got to about two miles of running the pain would begin and I'd be forced to stop within a mile.

So, I've stayed away from running and given the knee a chance to heal (I hope). I've hit the elliptical a lot harder to try and keep up with my exercise, and I'm still playing squash twice a week.

In the last few days I've added in some resistance training with dumbells / situps / pushups. The resistance stuff is new to me and my stomach muscles are complaining loudly.

Anyway, I'm going to head out for a test run sometime over the weekend as I have been missing it a great deal.

John.

I guess a few here are banged up a little with injuries.

I was able to get 4 runs in last week for about 17 miles. 1:15 was my longest run and the others were 45-50 minutes. I'm going to keep up with 3-4 days. It's been slow to heal but things seem to be going in the right direction.

John, is the pain on the inside, outside or middle of knee. Below knee cap, above or around center?

Actually inside the knee, very central, not tendon type pain.
It comes on as a little stiffness which just gets worse to the point I have to stop.
Pain diminshes dramatically when I stop running, but I can usually still feel something is wrong for a day or two afterwards.

It was clear that I was repeating the same pattern, run...pain..three days rest...run...pain...etc

Hopefully, three weeks has given it some time to mend.

John.

It's been quiet here, but I know some people have been out due to injuries.

John - I hope your knee is better and you can resume gradual running.

Bill - It sounds like you had a good previous week with 17 miles.

I haven't posted the last few days due to being busy, but I have been running. Wednesday was my final over 22 miler (22:38 miles in 3:37:00) for the upcoming New Jersey Marathon. Yesterday I planned to run 3-4, but ended up going 5.30 miles. I ran into a friend on the trail and we chatting it up while running. Next thing I knew I had gone out over 2.6 miles according to the Garmin. I felt very good for after a long run the day before.

I'm planning to run at the park during a special youth running club practice. Then I will take tomorrow off. I'm not working the normal Saturday night into Sunday morning 12 hour shift this weekend. I'll be taking off for the funeral of the winter season head coach's wife. She passed away Monday after a long battle with cancer. The service is at 12:30 PM and I plan to run Sunday morning. I'm looking at close to 50 miles for the week. Then the taper begins.

I'll be glad to start tapering. It's been a long winter and early spring, but I have held up well. Recently, I started having warm sensations in my right lower leg. This started not long after my right hip was tight and sore one day last week. Occasionally I feel a twinge in the hip and the warm sensation in my leg. I'm making sure to stretch and do supplemental exercises for the core, back, hip and glute areas. The reducing of the mileage should help as well. One thing is for certain, I will take a little downtime after May 6th.

Good Morning Everyone, I am new to this site and enjoy running daily. I do not compete or run in races. I just enjoy running to stay fit. I am 50 and run 4 miles just about everyday at 5:00am prior to going to work.

I admire all of you who run marathons. I just started running in 2010 when I needed to loose 20 lbs which I did and now maintaining. I also workout in the evenings with Kettlebells.

Enjoy your Sunday.

Ran just under 14 miles this morning. Did 7.5 on my own which included a fall at about 2.5. I got my knees good and they will be bandaged for a few days. Then I ran about another 6.5 with the boy from the club and his mother. I was glad they came and were with me because I might have bagged the rest of the run after getting back to my car. Another good thing was having a lake nearby where I was able to clean my knees a little.

Today's run brought me to over 51 miles for the week. Now the taper for the NJ Marathon begins.
