Yes it is. And the best part is that it happened when he wasn't even fully awake, so it wasn't thought out ahead of time, but he's not the type to give out false praise anyway.

I am limited on cardio since I have a bad knee, so I started the low cal diet and weight exercises for the upper body.

I also have type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol so I have to watch what I do.

I read about the 30 day shred yesterday and I don't think it is for me.
I am not into killing myself and cannot do jumping jacks.
Wow! Those are amazing results. It's funny because as I am typing, my biceps are killing me I've done the 30 Day Shred and it's very intense - lots of jumping jacks (which aren't so good after having 3 children ). I totally understand about watching your diet with Type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol - my dad has both on top of high bp. He's managing well though.

I will keep up the Callanetics and see what happens. I do enjoy it - it's like a "zen" feeling

I feel a sort of discouraged, however, I must admit that my eating habits are not ideal. In the last 3 months I lived in 4 different countries with dramatically different climate and diet, I spend my time at the airports and obviously, I eat fast food and sandwiches! I think this is something that needs to be looked at.

I will stick to Callanetics, with a bit of cardio and definitely modified eating habits!

New concepts to apply to original Callanetics exercises

Hi,

I am wondering if there is a post or a thread that details the new concepts/discoveries that we can apply to the original Callanetics DVDs like the 10 years in 10 hours , Beginning Callanetics and AM/PM Callanetics to make them even more effective? I remember Sandra writing something about not bouncing gently during the stretches.

Thanks,
Aleila

Aleila, the Concepts can be used doing anything at all. I do a modified version of 10/10 and have found that the Concepts greatly increase the effectiveness of the exercises.

I don't know of a single thread addressing the application of the concepts. You could use the search function and see what turns up. If you use Sandrahanna as the username in the search, you'll get very helpful answers.

GreenJunkie, the muscles that have a hard time doing those scoops and rotations will get stronger and sleeker! The scoops and rotations also help with flexibility and circulation. I do them standing. All the best to you.

Happy Callanetics days, everyone! I so enjoy my daily Callanetics!

purple rose - Have you tried seated cardio work? I don't know if this workout would stress your knees, maybe just do toe taps with the legs while you're moving the arms? The workout is 11 minutes and they recommend repeating it 2 or 3 times.

Oh, I just completed my 9th session for the month. I'll take measurements Tuesday when I do my 10 session but I wore shorts today while working out and I can see muscles! But the muscles make the flab that much more noticeable.

I can't believe this workout !!!! As if we all don't do enough sitting already!!!! I'd suggest getting up of her peachy behind and going for a walk, even around the house. This really is ridiculous if you are able to stand....stand and move, move and move even more.

You can't beat walking as far as I'm concerned. The more you walk...maintaining correct alignment of course the better

Well, I got up early and did my Callanetics. Such a great start to the day. I'm trying to snap myself out of being lazy. I've done OK this month but definitely room for improvement!

Total hours completed for January is 15.

Total hours since October is 51.

I'm not sure if I want to continue with Callanetics since my loss has stopped.

I have not lost any more inches since the beginning of January.

My low calorie diet is not working either.

I am trying to desperately lose weight and nothing is working.

Eat more. Not eating enough calories will put your body into starvation mode and slow down your metabolism. A slower metabolism will make it harder to shift the fat and easier to put in on. Furthermore without adequate calories, your body will start to use fat and muscle as a source of energy. The bad news is that muscle is more calorie dense than fat and your body will choose to burn muscle before fat. Your heart is a muscle so take note. Eating too little leads to food craving and becoming irritable and depressed.

No, don't stop! If you quit Callanetics what exercise would you substitute? We don't want you losing all the improvement you've seen. I think you should keep at it so you don't lose flexiblity.

I can't offer any advice on diet info. I've only lost 3 pounds since Christmas but after 9 hours of Callanetics I've lost an inch on my waist, an inch on my hips and 1/2 inch from each thigh. I know if I stop exercising my muscles will revert to their previous flabby state.

Purple Rose ~ I reread my Alternate Day Diet book by Dr. Johnson over the weekend (JUDDD) and he addresses how awesome this diet is for Type 2 Diabetics. I know you were hesitant but maybe get the book and then make a decision. I got it for $9 including shipping on amazon. Don't give up!

I read about this diet the other day.

I cannot only eat 545 calories on the UP DAY.

That would put me in the hospital.

I get dizzy now on the 1200 when I don't get enough protein.

I have never been an exercise person, but I decided in October that enough was enough. (Since the big 5-0 will be here soon) Since I had used Callanetics before, I dusted off her book and started again.

Callanetics worked great until recently. But since I started the 1200 diet, I have not lost any more inches.

I have spoken with my doctor and he stated that 1200 calories is fine for my circumstances. I don't feel starved or wanting. I am eating 5 small meals a day. I will occasionally get dizzy from not having enough protein.

I have purchased several exercise DVDs from the local store that were on close-out. I am going to give one of them a try today.

Whatever I do, it still has to work around my bad knee.

Thanks for your previous suggestion and post regarding exercises for my knee.

The DOWN DAYS are actually the lower calorie days and you don't have to start at 545 calories. There are many successful starting way higher than that. On your UP DAYS you eat a lot more calories than the 1200 you are eating now. My UP DAYS are 1900 calories and I am losing weight. Just my opinion, but eating 1200 calories every day is putting your body into starvation mode, hence no more losing. I wish you the best and hope you can find something to help you.

I have to agree with Gracie. 1200 is not enough. Just because you do not feel that you are starving does not mean you are not. I am Kylie size and eat 1500 calories minimum a day.

Gracie514, CarrieK & PinkBlob:

I really appreciate your concerns but I should be fine.

My BMR is 1494, therefore my daily calories needed to maintain is 2167.

To lose 1 lb of fat per week, I need to reduce daily calories by 500.
To lose 2 lb of fat per week, I need to reduce daily calories by 1000.

I do not stay strictly on 1200. I have tried, but my husband and sons complain when I make them eat healthy every day.

Perhaps I am not getting enough exercise.

I guess I will start exercising twice a day.

I totally understand on having to feed the family! Sometimes I have to make dinner for myself and then another one for DH and the kiddos

If you need 2167 to maintain and you wanted to give JUDDD a shot, you could even start at a much higher DD.

20% wt loss UD 2100 DD 420
25% wt loss UD 2100 DD 525
30% wt loss UD 2100 DD 630
35% wt loss UD 2100 DD 735
40% wt loss UD 2100 DD 840

Those calories do not incude any exercise either. If you are already exercising you can get another 200 calories per day. The "magic" is having the big calorie gap from your DDs to your UDs. I would start with a nice UD of 2100 calories to sustain you through your DD.

Again, I'm not trying to push you into anything, I just hate that you aren't seeing any progress with all your hard work
