Just do something challenge
I got this idea from hubby who believes in doing some form of exercise every day. Not always hard and sometimes just walking a couple of miles at a moderate pace. We both have noticed since we have gotten older that high impact and heavy weight workouts wear us down more than give us energy. Every time I jog, I get a sore lower back and when I do heavier weight workouts my shoulders get achy. His hips hurt when he jogs and he has backed down on the weights due to different aches and pains. Long winded explanation here
, but I have decided to do something each day while being mindful of what makes me feel best.Anyone interested in checking in daily and posting what exercise you got in for the day?

Hey, definitely count me in!!!
I love how I feel when I do some form of exercise. Especially when I am tired/not in the mood, the fact that I did *something* makes me feel great. So thanks for a thread where the little bits count |

I'm in. I've gotten out of the exercise routine but keep thinking even if I just do a 10 min ab dvd or walk on the treadmill at incline I would be burning more calories than if I did nothing at all. I've gone back and forth with running but lately it just wrecks my feet so I need to find something else to do. Also, I bought a treadmill last summer but haven't been using it in the last couple of months. Any ideas for good low impact treadmill workouts would be greatly appreciated.
Today I will do an ab dvd. Last edited by jtja; 09-16-2011 at 08:09 AM.. |

jeaniem--Yes it does. I hadn't thought about that because I have only used it on manual for running. I'll have to try one of the preset programs. Thanks for the idea.

I would like to join in. I can only do walking for the next 6-8 weeks as I just had surgery. Going to start tomorrow for a short walk and build up time and distance.

Jeanie! The LAVH was not so bad it was other stuff that was hell-here's a repost from another thread. Got my feet up in the recliner having coffee but plan on doing some walking later to get the endorphins going to help with pain-still def having more pain from the pulled muscle than the surgery. ![]() Back home after surgery yesterday and lemme tell ya it was hell-well not the surgery itself but other problems. I woke up yesterday with a migraine at 3 am and of course couldn't take any meds for it and was trying to barf by the time I got to the hospital. ![]() The hospital was great-they took me back right away and the nurse got the anesthiologist and he gave me something for pain & nausea. Procedure went well but of course when I woke in recovery I still had the darn thing. Then when we got to my room my right leg started spasming-felt like a horrible ripped muscle like the sciactic starting at the top of my butt cheek going down my leg and the morpheine did not stop the pain. Well they ended up taking me down for contrast xrays-the doc was afraid she clipped a nerve or muscle during the repair-that was a horror because I had to lay flat on my back for an hour but the technicians were wonderful and trying to make me comfortable and go as fast as possible. Turns out when they positioned me for surgery a muscle tore and then of course being up and out in that position with Fibromyalgia was the cause. The LAVH with the Davinci robotic arm I would highly recommend-I am having less incision pain than a regular lap procedure and it just feels like a really bad period. I am actually having more pain from the torn muscle right now than the surgery. Forgive my ramblings-I am on painkillers. Another new cool thing is the hospital menus now have the carb counts listed and the carb exchange for diabetics. Brand new hospital-opened last year with private rooms for all patients and a couch in room for the family.

Haven't walked today as of yet. I have the "swelly belly" as it is called on the Hyster Cysters forum 3 days out from surgery. I will try for some gentle walking in the house later as it is raining here today. How is everybody doing today?

I walked because of this commitment too!
It was kind of a disaster....one dog and two cats followed us....my teenager went with me barefooted....my neighbor stopped us to talk until it was almost too dark to see if there was a snake in the dirt road.....then my other teenager came by on the Jeep and we just finally got in!! Maybe 3/4 of a mile tonight but that's "something" though!! ![]() Good for y'all SherriS and Jeaniem and jtja!!! One more day down!! ![]() Leisha ![]() |

Nothing today, but I kinda count lugging strollers and carseats around today while babysitting. Woke up on the wrong side of the bed with a headache and knew it would be a slow day

Last night I came home from work, ate dinner, then left for a health seminar. Got home at 10 and told my hubby I'd walk for 10 minutes. Well after 10 minutes I'd walked a half mile so I went ahead and made it a full mile. Thankfully it didn't keep me from sleeping.
Crazy how I'm up on the scale though. Hopefully I'll get a whoosh in a day or two. |

Well, I've spent two days just "running wild" as we say! Too busy to actually "go walking" but I've certainly been moving! I guess that can count for something. We had a death of an elderly church memeber and we've been doing visitation, the funeral, and the funeral meal for her family. Then tonight was church night where I teach the K-5th grade girls homemaking skills with a Bible lesson! I'm having so much fun with them.....especially since I have boy children!

I have had 2 days of unrelenting migraines-as soon as I get the pain stopped and fall asleep I wake up with another one.
So not been doing too much of anything. Hopefully I will feel better tomorrow and can do some easy walking. |
