Question for Runners : Endurance? Carbs?
Hey ya'll.
So I used to run anywhere from 45 min to 2 hrs daily ( mostly 1 hr give or take on average ) ... before I started practicing a low carb WOE So my question is, how many carbs do you consume for your endurance to be sufficient for running long distances... Is long distance running suitable for the earlier rungs of OWL when you're limiting your carbs more than you would during maintenance? To be quite honest I enjoyed running a lot ( read : loved ), so I'm trying to think of a way to work it into my lifestyle at least in moderation.. just because I want to. So any wisdom/personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

I have been lcing for 4 years now and I need carbs to run at a nice clip or anything over 10 minutes. Some say their bodies' adjusted. I admit my body has not adjusted, I run alot slower now, but I can run longer than when I just started LCing. When I ran the fastest and longest, I was not LCing, but I gained to my highest weight in five years. Although I got addicted to running, the initial motivation was to lose/maintain weight. After a few years, I found that I was in a catch 22, my appetite skyrocketed, so I binged on carbs (because I feared fat), gained weight but could run faster and longer only to increase my appetite some more, eat some more, and gain some more weight. So I am hoping you are one of the lucky one that can successfully transition with time, but it took me years to build up endurance, and by no means am I as fast as I once was. IMHO, I would LC & running a fair shot, but I know some that eat a small amount of carbs just around runs/wrkouts and that works well in terms of losing for them. For me, that brought cravings back. Now, I just stay LC, maintain my weight, and run for the fun of it...not watching time or distance.
