OK. I think I have found the answer. For the most part I know the exercises plus I have the book. So I walked an hour yesterday afternoon and last night I did 10/10 while I watched television...I felt great. So I have logged 3 for April (13 or 17 total...I have to look it up.)

Question for you Callanetic's masters out there. With my physical limitations I find it difficult and painful to do the ballet squats for the leg exercises. I also have difficulty doing the pelvic exercises for the same reason. Everything else I can do. Will I still get good results?

I've done 4 hours of Callanetics so far, & the top part of my stomach has become very hard, like if you press on my stomach it's just hard. I don't know how else to explain it. Let me say it does not look different at all, it's just starting to feel different. Is this normal? Has anyone here experienced this? I DO NOT like to exercise at all, I really detest it, but I honestly enjoy Callanetics! I don't know why except it's difficult, but not too difficult & I just have fun doing it. I've never seriously exercised before but I really really like this. My body isn't too bad at all, I've got the hourglass shape, I just need to tone it in the worst way!

SJL

I am not sure if anyone responded to your question, but I will share my own experience with the stomach exercises. Callan always says to "curl in", "not up, curl in more" and as I follow the stomach exercises on the DVD I notice that my midriff-just under my ribs, gets very tight and hard. Sometimes, although less lately I will take a break and massage the upper stomach area- (right below the ribs) if it gets too tight while I work it, and then go back to doing the pulsing. Now after a month of doing the exercises- the upper part of my stomach stays pulled in even when I sit down-- it used to go out!! I think you are on the right track "pull in, not up". Then the people here who give the best advice say to do it 3-4 times per week.

Hi everyone, Logging 5 hours for April (28 in total). Only did 2 hours last week, need to make up for it this week. I need to get my eating back under control so I can see the results!

For those of you doing 10in10 - do you "engage the behind" for all exercises, such as stretching etc, or only when Callan instructs you to do so. Also, Callan says not to in the stomach exercises - is this still the preferred way to do these?

Thanks, Saff.

Saff,

I personally engage the "PELVIC FLOOR," which is very similar to a kegal type movement.

It's a drawing in/up movement of the "sit bones," as Sandra refers to them. Sandra makes this whole concept far clearer in the EVOLUTION dvd than it is in the 10 n 10 or Super C dvd's. If you do a search for the word "floor" by "Sandra" in the search mechanism of the EXERCISE BOARD, you will find tons of posts by Sandra explaining and elaborating on the pelvic floor concept and how to best utilize its power.

If you have trouble, I'll check back tomorrow and dig up some of that stuff and post it for you.

Hi Jane, I know what your saying about it being like an addiction!
I do the 20 min program one day, and the full hour the next, I find it's helpful
in my moods, and general overall well-being.
Baileyrangefan..I actually did share Callan, with both my sisters!
I have one addicted... The other is really interested and wants to get
started asap..
PS my stomach hasn't been this small in a very long time!
I'm melting!! I'm meltinggggggg......
lol
I share those feelings of yours completely!!! I love this board where I can find others that share the same thoughts and feelings...

It's true :-) I "confronted" him with this issue, and guess what he said? --- "I never noticed that your stomach and hips were getting bigger. And that's why I didn't notice that they are getting smaller now..." :-)

Logging 6th hour for April (16 in total)

I'm back on track, after 3 days of junk food and no exercises. Yesterday 1 hour after work. Felt power in my body again.

And I'm back to eating well. Minimize processed food is my goal --- food from the kitchen, not from the "factory".

Hi BARGAINHUNTER,

I'm starting a similar routine as you. I just started Zumba yesterday. My crosstrainer broke, and while I wait for the repairman, I found Zumba. It's soooooooooo much fun. I love it! I've decided to replace crosstrainer with Zumba. Crosstrainer for me is really boring and hard to stick to --- the only thing I like is that I can watch my shows while doing it.

Callanetics takes some will power. Mixing it up with Zumba will be more enjoyable and a good solution for me.

Like SJL I'm new here and seeking advice and encouragement. I look forward to hearing thoughts about her question.

I've just finished up 1 hour of the 10 hour challenge (focus on the stomach), and I suspect I am moving too much during the repetitions. Do you think I will get stronger and be able to have more "control" over the size of the crunch/repetitions?

You likely may be moving too much. You want to avoid using momentum with your pulsing. It's actually more an engagement and/or contracting of the muscles rather than "movement." Make sense?

And yes, you will gain strength and control the more you perform the exercises.

Hi Twyla - thank you for your helpful post re: pelvic floor. I have checked through Sandras posts regarding this. Do you engage these muscles in the 10in10 stomach exercises? I do in the Evolution stomach exercises as instructed by Sandra, but not sure about in 10in10 as Callan says not to (and they seem to be differnet movements to Evolution)? Thanks again!!

Saff, I do the 10/10 and use PF engagement and counterpulls for the abdomen exercises.

Callan doesn't mention PF and counterpulls by name. She talks about when to tip the pelvis forward.

It works well to apply the Call. Evolution developments to the 10/10, AM/PM, and Super Callanetics. I so enjoy those videos and routines.

All the best to you.

Okay so now I know I need to get a copy of Callenetics Evolution, maybe from my library and watch the part with the developments of PF(pelvic floor) and counterpulls. I noticed that when I tighten my pelvic floor it does help with the tipping up that I am already familiar with. Thank-you for the tip.

This will be my first day of the 10/10 Callanetics, I'm really excited to see some results!

My current weight fluctuates between 110 and 113. From most people's perspective that sounds too thin, but I'm 5'1 and I carry a lot of pudge in my thighs, bum and belly, so really what I'm looking for is a lot of toning. Hopefully I'll put on a little weight in muscle. Wish me luck, and good luck to everyone else participating this month!

April 14: 3 C's: Callanetics - yes; Cardio - too busy to find time; Careful nutrition - yes (meat, vegi, wholewheat bread, potato, fruits).

I still have a cold, and my whole body hurts when I got up this morning. But I will still try to do some Callanetics today.
