Three or four sets are good. As for reps, if you can do only, do 10. If you can squeeze out 15, do 15. I do dips on and off now and then throughout my work day. I get bored or sleepy or stiff ... you know, sitting too long or whatever, and I'll head to the break room and do dips. Gets my blood pumping, wakes me up, and kicks my triceps. ![]() |

Hey guys,
Hope you don't mind if I rejoin the thread after being away a LONG time. I haven't been able to exercise since last summer due to foot pain and ended up having surgery on both feet (one in November, one in January) and have just gotten the okay to add back in limited exercise. So far the only thing I'm doing is walking, but I had great results when I used 10/10 a few years ago and I think it's gentle enough for me (or at least for my feet if not the rest of my body ) to get started again. I'd really like to do 10/10 at least 2 times per week for the rest of April. So I'm going to aim for 5 workouts this month. |

Ok so I've been MIA this past week. I'm 2 hours behind but at least I'm getting other my workouts in. I thought for sure I was going to have trouble doing any of the stretches and it would be so hard since I haven't done any callanetics for a week. WRONG! I was more flexible and was able to do the stomach exercises even better than ever!
I was able to do all the leg exercises with no trouble. I haven't been able to keep with Callan on the first one where you stretch your pelvis on toes. I did all but the last 2 and I was able to do the last set slowly and very controlled. I love Callanetics! I did my fifth hour of 10/10. The thigh stretches are becoming much easier. I think my Tabata cardio and weight lifting are helping me to keep better control.

I just have to say WOW!!! It amazes me, now that I've finally "got it", the results I am seeing. I tried on a pair of capris that I had bought probably 6 or 7 years ago that have not fit for probably 5 or 6 years. I couldn't believe I was able to get into them and get them buttoned also.
They are still very tight, although not to the point that I had to jump off the house to get into them but definitely a major step in the right direction. I also tried on another pair of jeans that have been my guage, so to speak, on my progress. They are fitting very differently; not looser, not tighter just different. They actually made my butt look very flat. And since a flat butt has definitely never been an issue for me, and looking at the way they were fitting, I think things must be shifting upwards. On another note, I am still not sure on the ab exercises. I think I may have slightly strained something in my left shoulder while doing them. I am having a very hard time relaxing once I start to pulse. And I haven't quite got this "belly button to spine" thing down (and still be able to breathe normal). So any advice or pointers would be appreciated. I am getting some results, as I can see and feel my hipbones starting to show and I'm seeing a line, so to speak, on the sides of my stomach but I still feel I am not doing them quite right. Anyway, congrats to everyone who is seeing amazing results!!!! ![]() |

Awesome! It is great to find a site where you can post and share your Callanetics results with others. I was just searching the web for anything about Callanetics. I did them years ago and loved it. For some reason, the video found it's way to the bottom of a drawer somewhere. So, now, after my kids are grown and have kids of their own, and life has thrown many challenges my way, I am once again ready to devote some important time to me. I admit, I have let myself really go over the years, I am 70lbs overweight, and completely out of shape, but I know from experience how fast Callanetics works. I have just completed hour 4 of 10 in 10. Sore, yes, but in a good way. I feel alive!
I have a possible solution to the ones I have read about that are getting leaner on one side than the other. When I was doing these exercises years ago, I noticed the same thing. I think what happens is that when we do the exercises that must be done on one half and then the other, we always seem to follow the instructor and start on the same side. These exercises really fatigue the muscles, even some of the supporting ones that you aren't concentrating on. I used to keep a log and mark it after every workout. One hour, I would start all exercises on the left. The next hour, I would start all exercises on the right. Then alternate evey hour. This seemed to balance me out. Haven't taken any pictures yet, and I really need to do some measurements, but really glad just to get back into it. |

Congratulations ![]() When doing the ab workout check that you aren't thrusting your shoulders forward. Your back, shoulders, head and neck along with your arms should remain stable. The movement is only in your abs. Also, try thinking 'relaxing your lower back down and allowing your abs to hollow out'. Before starting the ab workout I spend time talking students through some pelvic curls while lying down. This not only lengthens the low back and eases out an arch it also brings awareness how the abs automatically relax down towards the spine. ![]() |

I have switched over from doing the elliptical 5 hrs a week to more walking and cardio callanetics (I follow the beginner's version of the video to be on the safe side). I am loving it! I was worried that once the baby dropped I wouldnt be able to do anything. But I am 37 weeks pregnant and still moving! It feels good.
The baby is really considering coming soon! |

I have to agree with you, even though in CardioCallanetics the cardio section comes before the toning.
There's an old video called "The Secrets Of Callanetics" and in it Callan talks about how Callanetics can act as warm-up for any other type of exercise. By doing Callanetics first it helps you get the most out of your other activities. Everyone is different though and you have to experiment and see what works best for you. You may find that doing your walk first will actually make you work much deeper when you do your Callanetics. |

Hi ladies... I want to start callanetics after reading the threads here.
But, I'm apple-shaped (bigger upper body) so I'm trying to figure out the best callanetics DVD for me. I need to slim down my upper body/core so it will better match my slimmer lower body - I don't want to lose the little bit of hips/butt/thighs that I have. So I was thinking I should NOT do callanetics on my lower body. What do you ladies think? Go ahead and get the 10/10... or just get the stomach one... or get both, but do the stomach one more often. Any advice would be great... thanks! By the way, you all are doing great! |
