Because of my breathing prblems , I mostly do leg lifts , arm swirls and stretching while I am laying down, it helps builds the muscles and get the oxygen going in my blood

Jumping Jacks

Jillian Michaels says in her 30 day Shred DVD that "i have 400lb people who can do jumping jacks, so can you"

and you know diet "gurus" never lie!

Do you have a place you can go swimming?

I also do a lot of exercises in bed, I modified some yoga to do then some repetitive lifting of parts of my body, like crunches but different. I also do isometric exercises a lot. The thing that helped me the most though was walking.

I can't report that it helped me with weight loss, I actually stalled during that period, but I do believe it helps my endurance, my flexibility and my general attitude.

You might try ***********.com. They have lots of exercises you can do at home and I think they even have how-to videos to go with the exercises. Also, walking is always good. You may even get a cheap pedometer to keep track of your steps as an added motivator.

If you Google 'chair aerobics' you'll get lots of hits, including videos online you can work with. Obviously swimming would be the very best, but when that is not available ANY movement where your arms go above your head... just walk up the driveway moving your arms up and down like you are pulling down the sky!

Are you comfortable with walking? I have a Walk Away The Pounds dvd that I will give to you. It might be a great way to exercise. You can do it in your home and it doesn't require a large amount of space.

A Walk Away the Pounds DVD is fairly cheap and the beginner's level is pretty low impact.

Lots of walking, and if the weather in nice outside its perfect. Start out slow and pick up your pace as you get more used to it. When that gets to easy you can carry some 2 or 3lb hand weights with you. I go to my local mall before it opens and walk laps on the weekends. Its great. I know that 2 laps equals 1 mile so I try to walk 6 laps on Sat and Sunday. You can also do leg lifts. for your arms hold them straight out to the side and do small circles forward and then backwards. Its a great Pilates arm toner.

exercise is great, but it isn't going to do anything to firm up something that's outside the layer of muscles

I agree with RR ... but getting exercising is so good for your heart, and I find it helps me mentally too -- helps to start enjoying life --

I lost my first 60 pounds just walking near my house -- and I was walking slow compared to other people who wouldn't probably have even thought I was exercising, but for me at my weight, my heart rate was up there and I was exercising ... I even was able to wear street clothes so I just was like anyone else out for a walk.

I highly recommend it if the weather permits!! Once the snow came, I used to go to the mall and walk with the seniors ... if there's a will, there's a way! Good for you for looking into it!!!!!
