Thanks for posting this! I have been doing them as shown in one of your pictures, leaning over with one hand on the floor because I don't have a barre to hold onto and it seems to work fine, but I was afraid they might not because of that. Now I feel better.

My kids come in the room and laugh at me when I do my Callanetics. According to my son it is not real exercise. Then a friend of his from school came over and told him that his mom and grandma do Callanetics too, he had tried it and it was much harder than it looked. He also told my kid "your mom is hot so you can see it works". The look on my son's face!

My kids laugh at me a lot less now that I'm doing Callanetics. What REALLY cracked them up was my "attempt" at Tae Bo.....

My son and hubby laughed at me at first too. Hubby doesn't anymore since I'm much more flexible and it makes everything better.

My son does some of it with me and little stinker is so flexible. He always has been since he was an itty bitty thing. He's double jointed in many areas of his body. I bet your son was blushing. LOL!

WTG jigglebuster!!! That's great news.

Good for you girl! You must be so proud to be a hot mom!"

As a side note, when my hubby tried it with me he was making all sorts of unhappy noises. He said it was a great abs work out! (HE can hardly touch his knees he is so inflexible, so we wont talk about how those exercises went). My husband does crossfit and lifts a ton of weights so if a man who is in that type of shape says it is a good core workout, you know it is!

Hi everyone, I'm new here and inspired by the before and after Callanetics pics.

I ordered my DVDs yesterday but I wondered if anyone has links to Callanetics vids on youtube for a full workout I can follow along to until my DVDs arrive?

TIA

I completed AM this morning (skipped yesterday, not feeling well) so I'm at 5/10. I am really starting to feel stronger, especially in the thighs and behind. I can't really "see' improvement in my abs, but I tried on my "skinny jeans" this morning, and while I was miles away from buttoning them just a week ago, I could just barely do it this morning. That's pretty cool considering I haven't lost weight this week. Now, I just need to work on being able to actually BREATHE while wearing them without splitting them!

9/12 done. I caved in bought the Callentics evolution. I find the hip and behind exercise much easier in evolution. Compared to Super Callanetics i find evolution a little easier. I have a hard time with SC.

But in evolution the abs are a killer as opposed to SC.

In both of them pelvic exercises are hard.

Callanetics, 10 Years Younger in 10 Hours!
I completed 1 hour!
2009: 23 hours
2010: 25 hours
March goal: 14 hours
8 out of 14 completed!

8.5 hours completed out of 15 for the month.

I didn't complete the entire hour one day so I will complete an extra hour sometime this weekend

I hope to end the month at 15.5 hours

WOE: Mostly organic, nothing processed
I have a question on the stomach exercises in 10/10. It seems lately when I do the ones with either one leg up or both legs up, my back has been tensing up (that's the best way I can describe it); like maby it is my back that's holding my leg(s) up. I am obviously doing something wrong but can't seem to get to the bottom of it. I try starting off (after curling up) really concentrating on relaxing but as soon as I start to pulse, it's almost beyond my control to keep my back from taking over. I am fine on the first exercise with both feet on the floor and I can really feel them working, it's just the others I am having a problem with. Any suggestions or helpful hints???? Can I maybe rest my extended leg on a chair to help support it and still get the same results?

Just for the record, and in case it should make a difference, I am slightly swayback. Not drastically but I cannot lay out flat on the floor.

I must say that teenage boys will say anything after you offer to feed them so I take compliments from them with a grain of salt.

I'm new to LCF and I may as well say I'm new to Callanetics, all though I had done it a bit back in the early 90's. I have the 10 Years Younger in 10 hours and the Am/Pm. I started today with the AM and found it harder than I remembered.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me, How many Calories can an hour of Callanetics Burn? I've been burning over 500 a day with Core Rhythms and I would like to do Callantics instead but I can't find that information anywhere.

I'm up for this challenge, even though it's a little late in the month and I'm learning the exercises all over. So I will have to start with 10/10 3 days a week for now.

I just finished my first 10 hours!!! I will keep doing it every other day for the rest of the month, but I'm happy to say that I finished my first goal

I did EVO for my 10th hour, since I pulled my right hamstring a bit with 10 in 10. I don't know about you guys, but EVO made me sweat more, and kept my heart rate higher than 10 in 10. Has anyone else had this experience?

If you're looking for a replacement for a cardio program that burns a lot of calories, Callanetics may not be your program. There is a cardio Callanetics DVD, which I believe burns about 300 calories. But the toning programs aren't huge calorie burners, probably similar to yoga in that regard. The prime benefit to me is the incredibly fast toning. Callanetics is probably more comparable to weight training than cardio. I combine Callanetics with a walking program.

Thank you Poopsie2223, for confirming what I kinda thought. I see you have lost 45 lbs. since 1/3/10. Was that with walking and Callanetics and of course your (Modified) Carbohydrate Addict's Diet? what is that diet? I haven't heard of that one.

Thank you again,
Charlie

Actually, I've lost about 25 pounds, 45 is my goal. I started with one month of Atkins induction, then I switched to CAD (Carbohydrates Addict Diet). That is two very low carb meals a day plus one "reward meal" in which higher carb choices are allowed. I call my version "modified" because I usually have one low carb protein shake a day as one of my VLC meals, and at my reward meal, I do not eat any refined carbohydrates although they are allowed on CAD. A typical menu looks like this:

B: shake
L: cheeseburger with no bun, salad with olive oil dressing
D: Salad, shrimp scampi, grilled eggplant and peppers, brown rice

I didn't start exercising until a couple weeks ago other than walking. But since I started Callanetics I see dramatic, noticeable changes in my body. My waist has pulled in a LOT, for instance and I have probably dropped a full dress size in the past couple of weeks even though I haven't lost much "by the scale" in that time period.

Thanks everyone!

I actually didn't think to check until one day while measuring what used to be the widest part of my hips the tape measure slipped under my butt. Still have a ways to go, especially with my flexibility, but I noticed today that since January I can open my legs about a foot wider on the floor stretches, and on the leg stretches on the bar my face is getting closer to my knee.

Healthmom, I can only guess without seeing you, but you might be letting your legs down too much for your abilities when doing your stomach exercises. Even half an inch can make a difference. Try bringing them up a bit more toward your head until you don't feel it in you back anymore.

Something I do is before I even let go of my legs is I check to make sure every muscle in my body is completely relaxed, finding the that perfect position for me, and then I let go.

Charlie-B, I believe Benjamin said something in a previous thread about it being 256 calories. However, it's like doing 7 hours of other exercises.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Hay Poopsie 2223,
Wow, 25 pounds in 2 weeks is amazing! Your (Modified) Carbohydrate Addict's Diet sounds smart. But, for doing Calllanetics for just 2 weeks and losing a dress size is great.

I have joined the Challenge and plan to do 1 hour for the next 12 days and some cardio with Walking or Core Rhythms. I have been working out on my Bowflex 4 days a week but, I don't know if I can do both Callanetics and Bowflex. We don't know what we can do unless we try, right!

Thank you Poopsie for inspiring me!
