I have only had 1 run since my HM weekend before last. My right foot is still hurting. I am thinking I am going to have to get a doc to check it out. Volunteered at a cyclocross race this weekend and could hardly stand after about 2 hours. Finished up my 4 hour shift and went home and iced it down.
Going to swim tonight to get something in maybe do a spin class. ughh, this blows. |

Batlou - Thank you for the new thread and hope your foot feels better.
Lil Miss - Good luck in your half marathon this weekend. Deb - How you feeling today? My ankle does not bother me from yesterday's turning it (again) at the end of my long run (how ironical). Last night I did some stretches, ankle rolls and supplemental exercises and it felt fine. Today I'm going to head to the park since it is a coaching day. I'll probably only get in about 5 miles in total between running on my own and with the kids. My legs feel descent, but I don't want to overdo it. It feels great to be running near 20 milers close to 2 and a half months away from the marathon, but I don't want to get careless and ruin a good thing. I am thinking about a 5K for this Sunday morning. I've run in the park where it is being held and it is a nice place especially this time of year. I'd like to keep racing here and there before the marathon in January. I'm already planning to do the Turkey Trot in my county. See everyone later. Dean

I ran 46 minutes on my own and with the kids today. My right ankle/foot did not bother me at all. Maybe turning it again knocked it fully back into place. I won't argue with it either way. My legs were a little tight and sore from yesterday, but not too bad. They loosened as I progressed in my running today. The weather was beautiful as well. Tomorrow is a rest day.

SOOOOOOoooooooooOOOO proud of dear Debbie.
Deb, the last 5-6 miles of a marathon are usually brutal. You have so much to be happy for, so much you have accomplished. You are living and enjoying life-- every moment as you know, is so precious and you got to accomplish a MARATHON. Fabulous!!! So great! As soon as settle into my new digs I promise to start trail training again. :-) Trails or bust ya'll! |

Dean, I am still sore. I even have pain in my forearms but not bad. My legs are fine until I go to sit down or stand up or the stairs. I guess I need to work on my quads more when I train. I have friends who have upper back and neck pain, pain in abs and no real leg pain.
I am hoping to walk and run a few miles tomorrow on the track to get the stiffness and pain out of my legs. I think it will work. It has in the past. I have been this way after a few other hard races. I am working today and then going out to dinner with my club friends. Working tomorrow too. I am doing the Las Vegas Half in 5 weeks. I am not racing it. I am not even going for that reason. My husband wanted this trip so I am running with him. We never run together. He would like to finish faster and I can help him for a change. He informed me last night that we will be renewing our vows during the race at mile 3.5. Good thing I made the decision to run and finish with him. I want pictures and fun and just to soak in the experience and have no stress or pressure. I don't care about my time just being with him and doing this. Last night was our program banquet. there were over 275 runners with 33 being coaches. It was really a touching thing. They mentioned every coach and gave them a gift. We gave our pace group coaches and the head two gifts. There was a great video presentation. The coaches all lined up and we went through and thanked and hugged or shook hands with every one of them. This has been the most wonderful program and experience for me. I can't wait to do it next year. I don't mind training. I don't mind distances. I love running. 26.2 takes me a long time but it is doable with pain and all. |

Alanis Morissette ran a 4:17 in her first marathon at the Bizz Johnson Marathon a couple of weeks ago.
I'm reading 'Healthy and Intelligent Training' by Keith Livingstone. He explains Lydiard's principles in an easy to understand manner. Worth the $16.00 from Amazon. Oh Deb, if you'er thinking about running tommorow, you didn't run hard enough ![]() Last edited by westside; 10-27-2009 at 08:03 PM.. |

I am feeling a bit better today and will go see how my legs feel. Our coaches said we could try to run by today.
Didn't run hard enough? Thanks Bill. I ran as hard as my blistered feet would let me and finished. Next time I will run harder. I was so worried about hitting the wall I kept saying we are going too fast we better slow down in the first half. In the second I wasn't worried about going too fast and actually had slowed down. So did I run the first half too fast? Would it have made a difference? I am going to run up a mile and back a mile and that is it. That is if I can. I still hurt a little but think the run could get rid of this. I will soon see. |

Good Luck Debbie!
I am off to do 6 today - humid and icky out. Weather not looking great for the half on Sat. 77 and rainy so not great for my asthma. I prefer cool and dry! |

I did two miles and it felt pretty decent. the first few minutes hurt some but then it passed. I ran 11:36 average pace. I could have run more but decided to take it easy. This really wasn't for exercise as much as getting the residual soreness out of my legs. I think it worked. Tomorrow night I am thinking of 3-4 miles. I am essentially reversing my taper some but won't do the 10 we did the last long run. I think I am running 5-6 on Saturday if I feel like it. I would like to be running 10-12 in December in preparation for Speed Development. In January I start training for a March Half Marathon too.
Working a short shift today. Was going to hit the track to see people and do a short run like did this morning with some walking. My nephew is in town with his class from San Fran and is eating at a kosher deli not so far from me tonight so we are going to see him. He goes to a Hebrew Day School and this is a class trip. Wow we never traveled cross country when I was in school and we never had class trips. They go to Israel next year. He is 13. He wants to see us so I will be there. Have a great day all. |

Brought my running gear to work with me today! Weather is terrible but my foot is feeling a little better. Perhaps a short run after work and then off to the gym for a nice swim.

stairs still a bit painful and if I sit for a while getting up I still get stiffness but my run felt good and loosened me up.
Brian, hope your foot lets you run. Yesterday was so rainy here but today it seems to be stopping. May be back for Saturday though. |

Deb, you did great...
I ran 2.50 miles and then spin class ( i love that spin bike) but it is getting in the way of my milage per week. I still hit about 20.. but I like to spin everyday to. Not enough hours in my week... |

The weather was very rainy today, so I took it indoors for a reunion with the dreadmill. I went over 5 miles with some fast pickups throughout the run. Hopefully the weather will be nice tomorrow.

Ran tonight and after about a mile realized I was feeling pretty good so I decided to time a 5K and see how fast I could go. New personal best 27:19!
Oddly enough my foot, which I have been stressing about, feels great to run on but hurts like heck to stand or walk on. I guess I run and my gait forces a more forward impact. Either way, I am pumped up that I am able to run and also pumped that beat my PB by almost 3 full minutes on a 5K. |

Brian, what part of your foot hurts? I find I can't run fast without race day adrenalin or others pushing me.
Bill, I take things to seriously. My husband thinks I should have rested more. I am ready for short runs. |

I'm thinking about doing an 8.5 mile race on Sunday. It's called the Apple Hill Harvest Run and it's somewhat hilly. It starts off uphill and the finish line chute is uphill.
I ran it in 2006. |

most races I do end going uphill. Marine Corp ends in a horrible hill that felt so hard yet you wanted to get to the finish. I just kept smiling and knew the end was near.

@Debbie: I think I injured the Peroneus Longus where it attaches to the 5th Metatarsal. This is a self diagnoses but based on where the pain is located and how it radiates it would make sense. I really should see a doctor about it but after last night I may not worry about it and just take it slow and work it out.
It likely happened as a result of me increasing my mileage so quickly trying to build for the HM. I went from a 6 mile max run to 13 in 4 weeks. Probably not a great idea but it was worth it. Now I am going to start building for my next HM in April with a plan of using the entire 5 months to build properly.

The weather today was an improvement over the past two days, so I took to the trail heading to farm country. I went 60 minutes and felt descent. My legs were not sore from my dreadmill workout with the pickups yesterday. I just have to watch those crab apples that are all over the place. They can really turn the feet when stepping on them.
Brian - Hope the foot feels better and it is not a stress fracture. Deb - I will be doing a 5K on December 13. It will most definitely be my last race before the Disney Marathon. Back to work I go... Dean |

ahh, i don't know what to do?? I was suppose to run the january half marathon in carlsbad, my absoulety favorite, favorite half of all times. Well it is sold out and only the full is left. My brain is ready for a half, cause i don't start training for my regular full marathon till feb, marathon is in june. I always do that one. Anyways I would have to train like now, which is cool I am good with up to 13 miles anyways, I would just have to throw in a couple of 15, 20, 18 , 17, in the next 13 weeks. But anyways, I don't know if I want to or not. My brain was geared up to start in feb, not putting any high miles till april ish. But I need to make up my mind cause i am guessing it will sell out in soon. So I will sign up this weekend..if I choose to.. But then I go right back into training for the june one.. oyyyyyy. I love the expo i love the course, oyyyy
