Wii Fit?

Anyone have it? Do you love it?

It looks like something I would use, especially where winter is coming and I tend to do outdoor activities (I dont belong to a gym)

It's a big investment (almost 500 bucks!) I was just wondering.... DOES IT GIVE ENOUGH OF A WORKOUT TO HELP IN WEIGHT LOSS?

Hi Atkins Chick,

I've been using both Wii Fit and Wii Active Personal Trainer since June [I was walking prior to getting a Wii system]. I've used Wii Fit almost exclusively since the beginning of July. I do 30 minutes a day on the Wii Fit ... and along with low carbing I've lost 21 lbs since the beginning of May.

I think that I've lost more with the Wii Fit because of the variety of workouts. I like the Yoga, Strength Training and Aerobics ...

I do add wrist and ankle weights for some of the Yoga and Strength Training poses ... and sometimes I add them for the boxing workout in the Aerobics. I think they help.

Lord knows when I'm done, I'm usually sweating ... and I think it's helped both with the weight loss as well as my blood sugar levels.

Hope that helps.

Mary

My wii fit is collecting dust. Personally I would not spend $500 on it. Your money would be better spent on either some dvd's that you could mix up, an exercise ball, bands, etc.

Ah, 50/50 split! I know my $500 is a lot of money. I know I would use it, but still, other workout videos for 20 bucks is a far cry from $500. We'll see what others say...

My Wii system didn't cost $500. The basic Wii system cost $259 and the Wii Fit cost $100. The Wii Active Personal Trainer cost $60. Those are Canadian dollars so it should be less expensive in the U.S. I don't know about other countries.

Still it's less expensive than a gym membership ... and frankly, from my perspective, I like how the Wii Fit keeps track of the workouts you do.

As you begin using the Wii Fit, all kinds of new exercises become available ...

I like it ... and I particularly like how the Wii guides me to the proper form of doing the various exercises.

I suppose it depends a lot on your age, current physical fitness and how well you can self-motivate. Since I am 58 and recently diagnosed as diabetic ... I find the Wii Fit ideal for getting me onto a regular exercise program. I'm quite sure I could find a way to avoid exercise if I had to select the DVD and put it into the machine. The Wii system is always connected ... so I just press the button and I'm away.

Here's a thread that deals with how many calories are burned by the various activities in the Wii Sports [which comes with the system].

Unless you have kids who are going to use it or you're made of money, I don't think it's worth the money.

I actually tested the Wii fit before it was released or this article you may find interesting on the Popular Science Website The Great Wii Fit-Off: Gamer vs. Trainer | Popular Science

For less than $100 you can get a used Airdyne bike which is great for cardio although not very recreational...

While the article was interesting, and while for $100 you could purchase that stationary bike ... the real questions here is "Would you use that $100 bike" [or any other large piece of machinery purchased] and "Do you have room to store it?"

The only place I could store something like that bike or an eliptical machine would be my basement. The problem with that is that I could easily not use such machines in my basement.

The Wii Fit takes up very little room ... and it's convenient to use it, thus I can't as easily ignore it.

I can concur with some of the comments about the BMI evaluations etc ... I tend to not do a body test every day ... preferring to do it once every week or so. This gives a better view on how I'm doing overall.

Just doing cardio isn't wonderful for those of us who are diabetic. We need the variety of exercises ... and the Wii Fit provides that.

I can see how one can "outgrow" the Wii Fit ... but there are other "games" for the Wii that one can graduate to ... like the Wii Active Personal Trainer.

Also, I've encountered several people who like and use the Wii Fit since I got mine. I have lost 21 lbs in 3 months and lowered my blood sugar readings thanks to diet and the exercise of Wii Fit. That speaks more to me than other reviews.

The Wii Fit gets me moving [and sweating] for 30 minutes a day ... and that's much better than the alternative. If I was a "physical fitness" type, then I can see where the Wii Fit might not be the avenue of choice. But I've never been one to seek out exercise before ... so the Wii Fit is ideal for me.

That's all I can say in relation to whether or not it's a good exercise system ... what it's like for me.

I haven't used my Wii Fit in a while. It usually gets relegated to cold weather use. But I AM excited about the Wii Fit Plus coming out in October. For those who already have a Wii Fit, you can get the software for $20.

Just jumping in here -- I am excited to hear about an upgrade for the WII fit!! I think it's a great way to work out -- and a lot of fun! I will have to look into that a little more...

It's due out October 4th. I'm hoping they'll make it available via the shopping channel on the wii.
