You can pulse in several different ways. The traditional pulse that Callan demonstrates is to pulse the arms in towards each other - like you're trying to get your hands to touch but don't bend your arms keep them thoroughly stretched back with your shoulders relaxed down.

You can also pulse the arms upwards towards the ceiling.

You can also pulse the arms in tiny outward circles.

You can also pulse the arms back and forth in a spiraling movement. You will feel your thumbs seemingly flicking outwards as you do this but remember the movement is initiated from your upper arms.

Thanks for posting this Ben

Another thing you can do, while performing the first warm up exercise, is to place marbles under the arch and stand keeping the joint of the big toe firmly down along with the outer heel. Feet facing forward of course. This probably will feel a little painful but it can also be a bitter sweet pain as the marble digs in...some reflexology treatment

Rolling your feet over dowling is another excellent foot exercise. Very good for those who have bunions.

Sandra, thanks for starting this Sept thread.

I am in for 3 days a week, minimum, the quick Callanetics tapes in the am before starting my day. If I do them in the am, I have no excuses.

Looking forward to seeing "the magic" of Callanetics when I look in the mirror.

I had done 30 min on Wed., but since it wasn't a whole hour I didn't count it. I did 1/10 on Thurs. and Sat. a.m I did 35 minutes, so I'm adding my minutes together to put me at 2/10 I hope that's legal!
Sat. I was at DDs house playing circus and doing the dvd with 4 yo DGS. He was so cute trying to do them with me. For some reason he got a 5 gallon bucket and stood on it to do the one - I guess he thought he needed to be taller. Anyway we had a good time.

Hour 3/14 of 10/10 done.

I have said before that my hips/behind have always been my problem areas. Now that I'm in my 40's my problem area has shifted to my stomach. Over the past couple of years it as turned into Jell-O. I'm really struggling with the stomach exercises this time around.

I just finished hour 12 last night. While my hips and thighs aren't necessarily smaller, they're definitely tighter/smoother looking. The biggest noticeable change came around hour 8: I looked in the mirror and said, "What's that? Oh, look! It's my WAIST!!!"

I haven't been able to do the stomach exercises until recently (surgery) so I imagine you'll see results sooner.

Do yourself a favor -- Take BEFORE pictures! I'm so sorry I didn't!

P.S. I just hopped on the scale. After being STUCK for an entire month, I finally dropped 2 pounds! *hugs scale*

Hi all!

I'd like to remind everyone: do NOT work too much!

For two weeks I worked day and night sleeping only a few hours a night on average. Didn't have the time nor the energy to do Callanetics.

The result: I got sick as my body just totally collapsed. I slept for two days straight and had a high fever.

Now I started slow. I've been doing a few maintenance sessions and it seems that tomorrow I could try the full hour.

So...

Thanks for Sandra for starting the challenge! I'm setting my goal to 10. 10/10 that is.

And

for all of you having their birthday this month. (I noticed there were many, so sorry for not remembering exactly who at this time )

to all newcomers!

Good advice

Your body would probably have been sending you messages and signals before your collapse to encourage you to take a rest. You'll be paying attention to this in the future I'm a-thinkin'

Physique 57

Has anyone tried those new Physique 57 dvds? They seem to be similar to callanetics, just faster paced?

Good day to all you beautiful ladies and gents on this board!
I've been away for a week, so didn't manage to read the posts or do any callanetics either...
So far I've just done 1 /12, but I'll try to catch up in the next days!

sandra, ben?
Hey Surhbi,

I'm sure Sandra or Ben will answer you, I want to share with you my experience. This is what I did at the very beginning, when I couldn't understand why I had pressure on my calves when I wasn't supposed to have...
Listen very carefully to what Callan says: kneeling, with your back straight, try to go back towards your heels, with your arms going back, when you've lowered , tip the pelvis up and scoop: this will isolate the muscles of your front/inner thigh and then lift your arms up and return to kneeling again.
Try to keep your knees together.
At first I didn't do the complete movement, I just focused on tipping and scooping until I felt I was working the right muscles.
The movement doesn't start from your calves or your abs, try to think that you have to go back to kneeling only using your thighs.
I hope this wont'get you confused

When you become confident with this you can start to keep your pelvic floor engaged also. At the beginning I wasn't able to do that, my brain refused to contract too many muscles at one time

Let us know how you're progressing!

Anyone else have trouble doing the stomach ones? I just cant do all the reps on these. About 20 of each one seems to be my limit, and if I push myself to do more then I cant even get 20 of the last ones where you put both feet up in the air.

I'm no expert by any stretch, but I found that if I lower my back slightly like Callan suggests when I get tired, I can do more of them. She also said to take breathers when you need them.

Just do what you can for now, and I'm sure you will get there!
