How can I be an exercise coach?

Does anybody know how I can be an exercise coach?

I wanna teach my own classes for free in a private place.

If anybody wants to join sometime, let me know. It will be in New Jersey.

Hope to see you there soon!

Warmly yours,
Chris

I do it. I just let a bunch of friends know that I was working out and really talked it up. One of the ladies I work with got us a room in her church and we are now up to 5 of us regularly and 8 on occasion. I'm helping them out since most cannot afford to even buy some of the workout dvds and I do it for free. We do about 15 or 20 minutes of hoop dancing and then an hour of Callanetics.

If I were you, I would have them sign a waiver in case of injury. As a coach, you are setting yourself up as an authority figure - someone who knows what to do and what not to do. If you have someone in your class who is not physically fit enough to exercise, or who otherwise injures themselves following your instructions, then you are legally accountable and liable. This is why gyms have you sign a waiver and why most personal trainers have you get a note from a doctor that you are fit enough to participate.

There are training and certification courses you can do to be a coach and trainer. It is definitely best to actually know what you are doing, as opposed to doing something yourself and thinking that qualifies you to train others. Being responsible for someone really messing up their back or knee, etc. would not be a pleasant thing to live with - even if they don't sue.

That's some good advice! Good things to consider before starting this type of endeavor!

Good!

I am calling the YMCA in my area first thing tomorrow morning and get some lessons on how I can teach exercise classes. That would be perfect training.

Great advice!

Thanks folks!

Chris
